MERCY MOMENT By: Deacon Tom Driscoll
Our next Psalm of Mercy is Psalm 92, a hymn of praise to God. The main section explains that God is praised for his reward of the just. The conclusion invites recognition of the righteousness of God. It begins with an invitation to praise God with “stringed instruments.” In verses 1 through 3, the goodness of praising God continues throughout day and night; in other words, it never ceases, just as God’s goodness is characterized by his ceaseless merciful love and faithfulness. This praise is no mere lip service because the reference to lute, lyre and harp signify the spirit of praise and expression of joy of the person praying. The body of the psalm begins with a focus on God, the Creator (verses 4 through 8). The psalmist marvels at God’s thoughts and works revealed in His creation, though he laments those who do not understand and do not want to understand. The psalmist also recognizes that God is stronger than the wicked because, though the wicked “flourish” (testing God and talking nonsense about Him) and “sprout like grass” (flourishing momentarily), they are temporary nuisances doomed to perish, while God is “on high forever,” i.e., invincible to evil. The psalmist continues (verses 9 through 13) contrasting the fate of evildoers with that of the righteous. The righteous person is given the strength of faith described as that of a wild ox, muscular and untamable, which the Lord prepares with fresh oil so that the psalmist is ready to face evildoers with courage. The psalm concludes with verses 14 and 15. The psalmist characterizes the righteous as having the stature and undiminishing vigor of a tree remaining green and bearing fruit even in old age because planted in the Lord. With these images of oxen and trees, the psalmist expresses his trust that God strengthens the just, revives their faith and offers an ever-living relationship with them. But the psalmist also notes that God is not responsible for evil to
righteous persons or favorable circumstances for evil doers, because He is “upright, my rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”
Mercy Challenge for the week: Be mindful of your on-line behavior. Is it just, or designed to improve your image and leave others feeling bad?
MOMENTO DE MISERICORDIA By: Deacon Tom Driscoll

Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites
Do you have a call to the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites?
Secular Carmelites are Catholic men and women, either married or single, lay or clerical, who follow a Rule of Life and a formation program that fosters the Carmelite
tradition under the protection of Mary, Queen of Carmel. They do this according to the teachings of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross in a way appropriate for lay persons. They participate in community monthly meetings and in their everyday life
they give witness to the value of prayer and works in the world while seeking intimacy with God. If you are interested to know more about the Secular Order of Discalced
Carmelites, and/or would like a brochure or to attend a meeting, please call Pegge Patin, Group Leader at 288-9006 or Jackie Bentz, Director of Formation at 470-0100.

ALL SOULS DAY REMEMBRANCE Each year, our Parish families remember in prayer their deceased loved ones on
All Souls Day, November 2nd. This holy tradition reminds us that our prayers
help souls destined for heaven and encourages us to live holy lives.
Envelopes on which to write the names of your deceased family and friends
will be available by all of the doors of the Church. You can also bring your own
envelope. Please place your prayer requests in the collection basket at the
Offertory. Your remembrance requests will remain in the sanctuary throughout
November as a visible reminder of the gift of prayer we offer for our loved ones.

nuestros seres queridos.
