Today’s Readings .First Reading — On this mountain the LORD will make for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines (Isaiah 25:6-10a). Psalm — I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life (Psalm 23). Second Reading — God will supply whatever you need (Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20). Gospel — I have prepared my banquet, and everything is ready. Come to the feast! (Matthew 22:1-14 [1-10]). Today is Sunday October 12, 2014, the Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Responsorial Psalm is, “I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.” (Psalm 23:1-3a,3b-4, 5, 6) The Gospel from St. Matthew is about the wedding feast where “many are invited, but few are chosen.”

VANILLA ICE CREAM

Nearly everyone loves vanilla ice cream. However, vanilla ice cream wouldn't even exist if evolution were true. So let's start out with a little history: Until recent times, Mexico was the only producer of vanilla. In 1520, Hernan Cortes took vanilla back to Europe, and for the next 300 years, the Europeans tried but were unable to produce vanilla.

See, vanilla grows up a tree as a vine. Eventually the vine produces an orchid. In order to make a vanilla bean, the orchid must be pollinated. The problem is it only blooms one morning per year for pollination. If it's not pollinated within 12 hours, it withers. To make things more difficult, a hood-like membrane covers the part of the vanilla orchid which produces pollen. This makes the production of vanilla bean very difficult.

In 1836, Charles Francois Antoine Morren traveled to Mexico to figure out why they couldn't produce vanilla bean in Europe. As Morren studied the problem, he spotted a little bee (the Mexican Melipona Bee) land on the orchid, lift the little hood-like membrane, col-lect pollen and then fly off to the next flower. This bee was pollinating the orchids.

To this day, the Mexican Melipona Bee is the only insect that knows how to pollinate the vanilla orchid. This simple fact puts evolution in an extremely diffi-cult position. Without the bee, we simply would not have vanilla today. The bee and the vanilla vine had to be made at the exact time. This bee is perfectly de-signed to pollinate the vanilla orchid and, thus, pro-duce vanilla.

So much of our world points to the Creator. As silly as it sounds, even vanilla ice cream proclaims the Glo-ry of God. So, the next time you sit down to enjoy a bowl of vanilla ice cream, remember that you are en-joying a tasty treat which is only possible through the power of God!

Each day is truly a miracle. We, with the help of God, can be miracle workers. You can simply do it with a smile, a word of encouragement, a phone call, a visit to someone or even on your Facebook page. Have an awe-some day, and keep a record of all your miracles.

Serving Him Together, Barb A.

October 11-12, 2014 Dear St. Ann Parish Family, Hail Mary . . . I pray for Mary’s inter-cession daily. Our Heavenly Mother watches over us and encourages us to pray. Praying the Rosary guides us, soothes us, and cen-ters us. Let’s continue to pray for peaceful resolutions in our world.

Sweet! Student Council is Having a Bake Sale Our Student Council is hosting a bake sale in their Student Council Headquarters, Room 200, on Wednesday and Thursday. Yee Hah! Pre-School Roughriders Giddy Up! Our lit-tlest SAS Roughriders in Mrs. Sandrick’s class, dressed in their cowboy/cowgirl hats and scarves, galloped down the pre-school hallway last week after they learned about cowboys/cowgirls. Each student rode his/her “horse” right past my principal’s office! There were plenty of squeals of delight and smiles during this round up from both the students and me!

Thanks to everyone who attended the 2014 Ministry Fair―WWJD EXPO―to find out what our St. Ann community is doing to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and to sign up for a ministry or two! We

gave out booklets listing all our ministries, which are still available at the Parish Office, or you can pick one up from the brochure rack in the Nar-thex. You can also still sign up for any of the ministries by calling the Parish Office at 895-6700.

Our great Ministry Fair would not have been possible without the dedi-cation of all the leaders and members who support us throughout the year and who greeted our parishioners at 42 different ministry tables. Kudos to the HSA and Children’s Liturgy of the Word leaders who helped fami-lies “fish” for names of our Communicants and Confirmandi, for whom they will pray as they make their special sacraments this school year.

Thanks also to my husband, Stan, who helped create the WWJD EXPO mobile in the Narthex and who set up the Fair along with my sister, Sue Collins! I am also very appreciative of Mike Kienzle and other school volunteers who set up the tables. I am grateful to the Confirmandi and the many helpful parishioners who pitched in to clean up after the Fair. Additional thanks go to Gerry Szewczyk who always makes sure we have great coffee, and to Maria and Juan Diaz and their volunteers, who were in charge of the refreshments . A special thanks to our Pastor Fr. Bill and School Principal Bonnie Hall, who make St. Ann’s a warm and welcoming community, and to our Parish and School Staff for all their support. We are united in our love of God and our love of our wonderful St. Ann Parish Community. We are indeed all instrumental in helping pave the way for Our Future Full of Hope.
