parishioners for supporting our mission at St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish.

Please Make Your Gift to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal

“Come, Follow Me”

Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special

collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments.

The ACA theme, “Come, Follow Me” was

selected to remind us to continue to answer Jesus’ call to follow Him in thought, word and

deed by providing the necessary contribution to fund ministries and services to share God’s love

with many others in our Parish and our Archdiocese.

Each pledge makes a difference because all Parishes participate in the campaign and the

gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration and

generous response.

St. Alphonsus and St. Thomas Becket Present: 2018 Lenten Mission

March 4, 5, 6 ♦ 7:00pm - 8:30pm St. Alphonsus Liguori Church

Facilitated by Dr. Mary Amore

Join us for three spiritually uplifting evenings.

Sunday, March 4: “Responding to God ”

As a young Jewish girl, Mary found the grace and courage to say yes to the Lord when asked her to be the mother of Jesus. Each day we, too, are presented with opportunities to say yes to God,

how do we respond? In this session, we will explore how the life of our Mary inspires us to offer our fiat to the Lord.

Monday, March 5: “Living with Steadfast Faith”

As the mother of Jesus, Mary’s life was not easy. In this presentation, we will explore the ways that the life of our Blessed Mother challenges us to live each day with unfailing faith in God.

Tuesday, March 6: “Finding Hope in the Darkness”

Mary’s life took her from the cradle to the cross. In this session we will discuss how our Blessed Mother’s life invites us to carry our crosses with hope and trust in the workings of the Lord.

Dr. Mary Amore holds a Doctor of Ministry Degree and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union. Dr. Amore is the author of Primary Symbols of Worship and the Call to Participation and the newly released DVD entitled Eucharist: A Journey to Transformation, Healing and Discipleship. A Cardinal Bernardin Scholar and distinguished member of the North American Academy of Liturgy, Mary is a highly sought after presenter of parish missions in the area of the Eucharist and Pope Francis Year of Mercy, plus workshops, seminars and retreats. A monthly columnist at Ministry and Liturgy Magazine, Dr. Amore also serves as the full time Executive Director of Mayslake Ministries in Downers Grove, Il. Mary is a wife, mother and grandmother!

Hospitality to follow each night’s presentation, including a “Meet and Greet” with Dr. Amore!

How to define the "Francis effect?" This Pope has gained global popularity. His style is humble and joyful... How do people see him, and what do they expect from him? Together with amazing images of this memorable first year, this documentary offers anecdotes, humorous details, provoking messages, opinions, and clues to understanding an already historical papacy. TESTIMONIAL: “ GREAT INSIGHTS INTO POPE FRANCIS…Worth Watching! GREAT REVIEW OF FIRST YEAR…Explains how he is affecting the world.” READ/BOOK/KINDLE: MEDITATIONS FOR LENT (Can Load to Kindle to Read Each Day of Lent) ABOUT: Even three hundred years ago, believers found it difficult to sustain for forty days the proper Lenten spirit. That's why even then, countless Christians turned to the writings of Bishop Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet (1627-1704). Christoper Blum selects from Bossuet’s sermons and spiritual writings, fifty brief but remarkably powerful meditations that complement the daily readings at Mass during the Lenten season, thus offering to us the perfect companion for a thoughtful and fruitful Lent. TESTIMONIAL: “If you read and meditate briefly on just one meditation each day in Lent, this good French bishop's eloquence will soon have you not merely remembering the events of Christ's journey to His Crucifixion; it will have you spiritually walking with Him on that journey!” LISTEN/AUDIO: STATIONS OF THE CROSS (34 Minutes) ABOUT: The Augustine Institute presents a beautiful meditation on the Stations of the Cross, narrated by Dr. Christopher Blum. This prayerful reflection is accompanied by the Schola Cantorum of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, chanting the traditional Catholic hymn Stabat Mater, in Latin, which depicts the loving presence of Our Sorrowful Mother, sharing in the suffering of Christ at the foot of the cross. Take advantage of this audio on your commute or in the sanctuary of your own home, or anywhere you find the time, to enrich your prayer during Lent or throughout the year, and better unite yourself to the Passion of Christ.
