Catechism Corner - Moments of Reflection

Sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters

Pentecost Sunday

CCC 739: Because the Holy Spirit is the anoint-

ing of Christ, it is Christ who, as the head of the

Body, pours out the Spirit among his members

to nourish, heal, and organize them in their mu-

tual functions, to give them life, send them to

bear witness, associate them to his self-offering

to the Father and to his intercession for the

whole world. Through the Church’s sacraments,

Christ communicates his Holy and sanctifying

Spirit to the members of his Body.

Reflection: But it is also for us that the Holy

Spirit has come, for the group in the Cenacle

represented the whole Church. The Holy Spirit

came to remain with the Church forever. This is

the promise of Jesus Himself. He dwells in the

Church permanently and unfailingly, performing

in it without ceasing, His action of life-giving

and sanctification. He establishes the Church

infallibly in the truth. It is He Who makes the

Church blossom forth with a marvelous super-

natural fruitfulness, for He brings to life and full

fruition in Virgins, Martyrs, Confessors, those

heroic virtues which are one of the marks of

true sanctity.

~from The Mysteries Of The Rosary by

Dom Columba Marmion, O.S.B.

Practice: Take time to prayerfully read through

the Sequence for Pentecost, found in the

Missalette or the USCCB website.
