To: The Wonderful
Parishioners of
St. Aloysius:
Thank you to everyone
who attended our Pasta
Dinner Fundraiser. We
were so humbled by the
response and outpour-
ing of support from all
who attended, as were
our dear neighbors, Jess and John. It was much more
than we ever expected. Many thanks to the local res-
taurants who donated the delicious food. To those
who could not attend but made donations, your
thoughtfulness is overwhelming. Thank you to all
who prayed for us and continue to pray for our well
being, your prayers will carry us through the months
to come.
As bad as the fire was, we have been so uplifted by the
generosity, love and support from our entire communi-
ty and especially from our St. Al's family. One day
God will lead us to a place where we can pay it for-
ward, we'll be eager and ready to help.
Last but not least, a big thank you to Msgr. Desmond,
Debbie Biscotti, Patty Beirne and everyone who
helped bring the fundraiser together. Your kindness
will never be forgotten.
We were fortunate to find rentals in the same commu-
nity in Roseland where we will stay until we re-build
and return "home" to Caldwell.
We pray that the blessings you have bestowed on us,
be returned to you tenfold.
With love and gratitude,
Jean and Audrey McGowan

Dear Parishioners: Last week we started with Jesus his “Public
Ministry” after calling his disciples. The main proclamation of the beginning was: “Repent, the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand”.
Today's reading; move ahead in that proclamation with some words that present to us a deeper implication in the teaching of Jesus.
Today we see the beginning of Jesus' Sermon
on the Mount, which is found in Luke and Matthew's Gospel. The form of the Beatitudes found here is not unique to Jesus. Beatitudes are found in the Old Testament, in the psalms, and in wisdom literature, for example. They are a way to teach about who will find favor with God.
We quickly note in this reading that the people whom Jesus calls “blessed” and “happy” are not people we think of as blessed or happy . . . the poor in spirit, the meek, the persecuted, etc.
This Gospel is one of the great revelations from Jesus about happiness which looks a little contrary of what the world might call happiness.
The Beatitudes (us we call this Bible passage) can be understood as a framework for Christian living. Our vocation as Christians is not to be first in this world, but rather to be first in the eyes of God. By referring to the good things that the faithful will experience, Matthew reminds us that those who act in the manner described in the Beatitudes will find their reward with God.
Let us continue our Journey with the Lord Jesus on this Ordinary Time.
In Christ,
Fr Édinson E. Ramírez!

We are pleased to congratulate Troop 6 newest Eagle Scouts, Ashvin, Jean-Baptiste, and Jordan. They were recognized at a Court of Honor in our gym on New Year's Eve. The Eagle Scout rank is awarded to a small percentage of scouts. It represents years of work developing citizenship, character and personal fitness as well as leadership. Each boy led a major service project, with one benefitting the West Cald-well Historic Society, one a Caldwell Park and another the Essex County Environmental Center.
St Aloysius has long sponsored a cub scout pack and a boy scout troop. Pack 6 will be celebrating its 75th year in 2018. We support the scouting values of the scout oath and law and service to others and the boys developing responsibilities to others, themselves and God.
On Saturday, February 4, we will recognize the 17 Cub Scouts who will be receiving their Catholic reli-gious awards, the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei.

Dear Parishioners of Saint Aloysius Parish,
As we begin the annual observance of National Catholic Schools Week, I want to
thank you for everything your support has done to further the mission of Trinity
Academy. It is important for us to offer this educational alternative in the West
Essex communities.
This year’s National Catholic Schools Week theme centers on community:
“Catholic Schools Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” The theme
highlights the fact that schools are not only communities themselves; they are also
part of many other communities, including families, parishes, towns/cities and our
country. The theme also focuses on key elements of Catholic education: faith
development, academic excellence and dedication to service. These elements set
Catholic schools apart from other educational options. They are why families make
sacrifices to provide their children with a Catholic education. Trinity Academy
students are prepared to become future leaders for the church and their communities.
I hope you will visit our Blue Ribbon School this winter during a scheduled Open
House on February 12 or March 26. Please bring your friends and neighbors,
particularly those who may be considering Catholic Education for their children.
Private tours are always available by calling the school office.
I am grateful every day for the pastors, priests, teachers, staff, board members,
benefactors, parents and volunteers who make our school a success. We congratulate
and cherish our faithful alumni. National Catholic Schools Week is a good time to
celebrate everyone’s dedication and service.
Blessings,

DO YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES A DAY?
DO YOU WORRY ABOUT
OUR WORLD TODAY?
We would like to invite you to become part of the
LIVING ROSARY. This activity was started at Saint Aloysius Parish a number of years ago as a means of joining our prayers together to pray for peace in our country and for all our special intentions. It is also in response to people’s needs for greater spiritual growth. At this time we have several teams of 5 members each participating in our living rosary. It is a power house of prayer!
This activity may be taken on by anyone. Families can participate, the home bound can become part of the Living Rosary; persons on their way to work can join also. There
are no meetings to attend.
What is necessary to become part of the Living Rosary is a commitment to say one decade of the Rosary each day. You then become a member of a team who together says the entire rosary each day. It is said for the intentions of those members comprising the Living Rosary and for the specific and special intentions of our parish. It can be done at home, in the car, on the train, and any time of your day.
The Rosary has been used for centuries for world peace, against the heresy of the times, during the Nazi occupation of Poland and at many other times. This is a simple devotion, parish oriented, that demands little of its members and produces great spiritual results.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the LIVING
ROSARY. Please fill out the form below and put it in the collection basket, drop it off at the rectory or the parish center, or call Sister Justine at 973-226-0209 x 37 or e-mail me at [email protected]. We will then contact you to coordinate the groups and mysteries of the Rosary.

St. Aloysius Parish Mission Statement
St. Aloysius Parish is a Roman Catholic community
dedicated to celebrating the life and word of Jesus
Christ. All are welcome to deepen their spiritual and
personal lives through active participation in weekly
Liturgy, the celebration of the Sacraments, Parish
ministries and community activities. Acknowledging
our incompleteness and our need for God’s grace, we
commit ourselves, through Baptism, to responding to
God’s call to become and grow as disciples of Jesus
Christ in our time. Jesus Christ is at the center of all
of our lives.
