Dear Parishioner,
Have you ever struggled trying to decide on the perfect gift
for a very special person for a very special occasion?
Perhaps it was that special person’s 40th birthday or that
special couple’s 25th anniversary, or a sweet 16 event. Just
recently Margaret Russo and Helen Zullo, twin sisters and
members of our Parish, celebrated their 100th birthday. We
have the privilege of visiting them and bringing Holy Com-
munion to them weekly. We said to each other and to our
friends, “what can we get the Twins at this stage in their
life”?
In today’s Gospel, we read that our awesome God, gave us
the perfect gift in the person of Jesus! Jesus is the face of
our God! We know that our God is all good, loving, forgiv-
ing because that is exactly the way Jesus was. So-o-o just
as it is challenging at times to pick that “Perfect Gift”, so it
is challenging to be like Jesus, to be the face of God.
Now to get back to our 100 year old Twins! When we ask
them what was their answer to a long life they said, “Stay
active and stay close to God”. Thank you to all the Mar-
garets and Helens in our life who have turned the
challenges of life into opportunities to reflect Jesus’s for-
giveness, peace, love and joy! Thanks to Monsignor Des-
mond, we gifted Margaret and Helen with the perfect
gift. Monsignor celebrated liturgy in their home on their
100th birthday with family and friends!
This Memorial Day weekend we also remember and thank
all our men and women who died in the name of peace.
May their courage and commitment live on in their loved
ones.
Peace,
Kathy Reilly and Sr. Eleanor

On this Memorial Day weekend, we print Kipling’s “Recessional” in honor of our war dead. “Lest we forget”.
Recessional
1897
God of our fathers, known of old, Lord of our far-flung battle-line,
Beneath whose awful Hand we hold Dominion over palm and pine – Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget - lest we forget!
The tumult and the shouting dies; The Captains and the Kings depart: Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice, An humble and a contrite heart. Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget - lest we forget!
Far-called, our navies melt away;
On dune and headland sinks the fire: Lo, all our pomp of yesterday Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet, Lest we forget - Lest we forget!
If, drunk with sight of power, we loose Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe, Such boastings as the Gentiles use, Or lesser breeds without the Law – Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget – lest we forget!
For heathen heart that puts her trust In reeking tube and iron shard,
All valiant dust that builds on dust, And guarding, calls not Thee to guard, For frantic boast and foolish word – Thy mercy on Thy People, Lord!

DO YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES A DAY?
DO YOU WORRY ABOUT
OUR WORLD TODAY?
We would like to invite you to become part of the
LIVING ROSARY. This activity was started at Saint Aloysius Parish a number of years ago as a means of joining our prayers together to pray for peace in our country and for all our special intentions. It is also in response to people’s needs for greater spiritual growth. At this time we have several teams of 5 members each participating in our living rosary. It is a power house of prayer!
This activity may be taken on by anyone. Families can participate, the home bound can become part of the Living Rosary; persons on their way to work can
join also. There are no meetings to attend.
What is necessary to become part of the Living Rosary is a commitment to say one decade of the Rosary each day. You then become a member of a team who together says the entire rosary each day. It is said for the intentions of those members comprising the Living Rosary and for the specific and special intentions of our parish. It can be done at home, in the car, on the train, and any time of your day.
The Rosary has been used for centuries for world peace, against the heresy of the times, during the Nazi occupation of Poland and at many other times. This is a simple devotion, parish oriented, that demands little of its members and produces great spiritual results.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the LIVING ROSARY. Please fill out the form below and put it in the collection basket, drop it off at the rectory or the parish center, or call Sister Justine at 973-226-0209 x 37 or e-mail me at [email protected]. We will then contact you to coordinate the groups and mysteries of the Rosary.
I am interested in becoming a member of the Living Rosary: Name ______________________________________ Phone #____________________________________
