POPE FRANCIS—PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR AUGUST
Universal: Sports, That sports may be an opportunity for friendly encounters between peoples and may contribute to peace in the world.
Evangelization: Living the Gospel, That Christians may live the Gospel, giving witness to faith, honesty, and love of neighbor.
Pastor’s Corner Exciting things continue to happen throughout the summer! Last Sunday we heard the new sound system in action and we now need people to help ‘sound tech’ during the masses: if you have some skills in that area, please call the office and let me know. Hopefully we’ll have a training this month for those interested. Next week we will be replacing our phones in the office so we can be more ‘customer service’
oriented—actually, we just really need phones that work, so I’m looking forward to that! We’re also looking at some options for ductless AC/Heat in the Ed Center Chapel, which would be really nice to have. It broke my heart to hear of the murder of the french priest Fr. Jacques Hamel by ISIS while he was celebrating mass. There are so many dark things being done by ISIS and other terror groups, and it is a reminder to all of us that we must always be ready to meet the Lord, because as the Gospel this weekend tells us, “If the master of the house had known when the thief was coming, he wouldn’t have let his house be broken into.” If it’s been a while since you’ve been to confession—make an appointment and go! Our own archbishop Sample wrote an excellent article for the Sentinel from World Youth Day in Poland. His words are better than mine in describing the remedy for the darkness in our world. “We are living in troubling and perilous times. One has the sense that something profound and important is happening. We must rediscover the heart of God, which is a heart of mercy revealed in the passion, death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus. Our blessed Lord told St. Faustina that if we want to avoid experiencing God’s justice, we must reach out and take his hand of mercy extended to us.” (qtd. from http://www.catholicsentinel.org/main.asp?SectionID=4&SubSectionID=253&ArticleID=31840, accessed 8/2/2016) Amen! May we seek God’s mercy in the Sacraments, and freely give mercy and forgiveness to our spouses, our children, and our neighbors—only mercy will heal the world!
Blessings, Fr. Mark Bentz

*Pope Francis Tweets*
Pope Francis - @Pontifex 5:00am - 2 Aug 2016
In this Gospel, Jesus says “Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy."
Please help the Society of St. Vincent de Paul bring respite and hope to the elderly who are not able to find relief from the summer heat, and you will indeed find "an inexhaustible treasure in heaven!"
