A message from the Head…

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am amazed that the time has passed so quickly and we have already reached the Half Term break! I have to start by thanking you, your children and all of the staff at St Alfege with St Peter’s Church of England Primary School , and in particular Mrs Simpson for welcoming me into the school and showing how excellent you all are.

Over this half term the school has been extremely busy with Roald Dahl being the featured author across the school, and each class producing excellent work on a range of his different books. Furthermore all of our classes have been out on trips this half term – The Horniman Museum, The British Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Museum of London, Wide Horizons Environment Centre, Creekside… and I have enjoyed hearing all about their experiences and learning.

We enjoyed an excellent Harvest Festival this week, and the children have represented the school at local football matches. My thanks must go to Mr McGhie for making sure the team is ready and able to attend the fixtures, as well as thanking the children for representing our school with such confidence and credit.

Which leaves me to thank the parents for supporting the learning that the children work so hard at whilst at school. Have a good break next week, and I look forward to welcoming you back on Monday, 31 October.

A selection of things that have been going on...

FS2

Above is a picture of Naasei show-

ing that FS2 have been learning all

about Autumn

FS1 Above is Genson with a decorated hand. We have been learning about Diwali and have been looking at the way Indian people decorate their hands with mehendi. Genson said: 'They clean their house, make food and have lots of sweets for Diwali. I like the patterns on the hands'

Year 1

In their English work, the children in Year 1

have been using the story of The Naughty Bus

to develop their writing skills. They went

around the school recreating scenes from the

book (and making lots of mess) and then used

these experiences to produce some fantastic

writing! They had lots of fun!

Year 3

Year 3 went to the Museum of London for their

trip and had an amazing time! Here are pictures of

the whole class and some children enjoying their

yummy lunches!

Year 4

Year 4 were the first class to go on a

trip this year and went to Creekside

in Deptford. The picture shows them

getting a bit wet!

Year 2

Year 2 visited the V&A and learned all about sculptures. They have also been very busy in class acting

out the story of Goldilocks in Drama and adding up sums in Maths.

Year 6

Year 6 had a great trip to the

Horniman Museum and took

part in a work shop called

“Fiesta Mexicana”. Above are

Year 5

Below is a picture of Year 5 outside the British Museum they went to this half term on a self directed visit.

Year 4&5

A few talented footballers from years 4&5 took

part in a tournament at Dulwich college, led by

Mr Addo & Mr McGhie and did very well! Here

are some pictures of the day.

Produce from our Magic Garden!

The magic garden was very productive this summer and at the beginning of term Mr McGhie

retrieved a giant courgette! We have also successfully grown apples and tomatoes and below

shows some children with our head chef Bola holding the fruit and vegetables.

News and events...

Christmas jumper day!

This day is a great way to raise money for

an excellent charity! We ask that all children

and staff wear their best Christmas jumper

on Tuesday 20 December and give in £1 to

school. The pie chart shows how each £1 is

spent.

The sales of our tea towels have raised £89!

We have spent that money on some fantastic new playground equipment:

Skipping ropes, dodge balls and very noisy jingle bell bracelets!

St Alfege Calendars! Our next fundraising event will be the sale of St Alfege calendars which will feature drawings by the children. They will make a great Christmas present for family and friends. Pictures of the calendar can be seen on the school window. We will be giving out a letter about how to order them and the deadline after half term.

Advent Window!

We will be home to an advent window again this year which will

feature on the main school hall window. This will be unveiled on

Friday 9 December.

Pyjama Party!

Last year’s Pyjama party was great fun for all who attended so we would

like to host the event again this year! It will take place on Friday 2

December 6-8pm for all children and parents. Details will be sent out

next half term.

Harvest Festival!

Thank you to everyone that brought in a donation for the Harvest festival. In times where there are so

many people in desperate need, donations, no matter how small, make such a difference.

Christmas school dinner!

This year the school Christmas dinner will be on Tuesday 20 December. We will be sending out letters

to those children that normally have packed lunch so they will have the opportunity to have this. The

cost will be the usual £1.60.

Lost Bike!

We have a bike left in the courtyard by FS and would like the owner to come and retrieve it! Please let the

office know if it is yours to claim.

PE Kits...

This term all children from FS2 to Year 6 will be developing their skills in a variety of Outdoor Sports

during their PE lessons. The children should wear:

T-shirt (green or white)

Tracksuit bottoms or Leggings

Sturdy trainers

Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery should be worn.

PE kits should be brought to school on Monday mornings and taken home on Fridays.

Dinner Money ...

Dinner money should be paid in advance as per the policy.

Please contact the office if you have any queries or difficulties relating to school dinners, or if you would

like a form to claim free school meals.

Extended School Clubs...

Whilst we do our best to ensure all clubs run every week, there are occasions where they may have to be

cancelled at short notice. We hope you understand that we cannot refund when these exceptional circum-

stances occur.
