Mission Statement We, the family of St. Alphonsus - St. Clement, are called by Jesus Christ to know Him

and celebrate His Word. Sustained by the sacramental life rooted in the Eucharist, we reach

out in service to all through faith, love, and fellowship.

The love relationship that exists among the Persons of the Holy Trinity is both intense and inti-

mate. As beautiful as this teaching is, it demonstrates how human language really pales in trying to

capture the essence of God. The Father brings us to the creative, powerful, yet gently meticulous

part of God who has brought mountains and hills into being, as well as each of his children. Still the

Father is more than this. The Son demonstrates the unconditional love of God filled with endless

mercy and compassion. This love really understands the journey of the marginalized and the poor

and has no use for created powers and structures that alienate and hurt people. But the Son is

even more than this. The Holy Spirit is the breath of God who teaches wisdom and brings under-

standing, who governs the seasons and discerns the thoughts of human hearts. Yet the Holy Spirit

is still more than this. We worship a God who is beyond and also intimately bonded to all that he

has made, without whom nothing could be sustained in being. Praise the Holy Trinity!

MEMORIAL DAY

"No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." Christians are no strangers to sacrifice. Je-sus lays down his life for our redemption, martyrs remain faithful to the end,

and every believer faces "deaths" in the spiritual life when love requires a re-ordering of prefer-ence and priority. On Memorial Day, we honor those who laid down their lives for their nation and for the val-ues we espouse - freedom, justice, and a better world for our children. In a day that often fills with barbeques and boat launches, remember to take some time in prayer! Intercede for those who have died and for the loved ones they left behind, and pray for peace on earth.

The parish office will be closed Monday, May 28 for the Memorial Day holiday. May you have a safe weekend. Remember in your prayers those who have sacrificed to safe-guard our nation’s freedom and people.

The sanctuary lamp is burning this week in

memory of Monica Delaney

RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR

ORDINARY MOMENTS

My wife and I have used the same baptismal gown for all 3 of our children. It is a very long traditional gown made with fabric taken from my wife's first communion dress and my mother-in-law's wedding gown. It is a symbol not just of each child being washed clean by the sacrament, but also of family and how faith has been passed down through generations. Faith is a gift and that gown shows how this family has taken seriously the cultivation of that faith and the sharing of it with those we love the most. By our baptism we are called to a discipleship that compels us to share our faith with others. It is not always easy, but it would be wrong to hide that faith and not let it shine for others to see. When we think about a stewardship way of life, we sometimes focus on material goods, our talents and skills, or our time. But faith is a gift that needs to be treated in a similar way. We are heirs with Jesus Christ to this rich tapestry of faith and the Church. If all of us were to hide that faith and not seek to share it with others, that lineage would end with us. We live during a time in history where in some lands people are finding Jesus in huge numbers, while in other places the numbers of people in the pews is declining sharply. We can spend all our time talking about these realities or we can choose to respond to our baptismal call. Jesus commanded us to go forth and make disciples of all nations. Maybe we can begin with our neighbor. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

“SAINT OF THE IMPOSSIBLE"... St. Rita was born Rita Lotti in 1381 in the ham-let of Roccaporena, near Cascia in the province of Umbria, Italy. Rita entered the convent in 1413. From childhood she had a special devotion to the suffering of our Lord. In 1441, when she heard an eloquent sermon regarding Christ's crown of thorns, a strange reac-tion seemed to occur as she knelt in prayer and asked God to share with her at least some of His pain. Slowly, one of the thorns from the crucifix was loosened, and implanted itself so deeply into Rita's forehead that she fainted. This wound remained open and be-came so offensive that she had to be secluded from the others in the convent. The wound healed for a season, enabling Rita to accompany her sisters on a pilgrimage to Rome during the year of the jubilee in 1450. But the wound was renewed after her return

and remained with her until her death. Shortly before she died, Rita asked one of her female relatives to bring her back a rose from the garden of her former home. It was midwinter, not a season when roses bloom in central Italy. Yet the cousin found a single rose in the garden and brought it back to Rita, who kissed it and offered it to the Mother Superior. A simple but particularly moving miracle: Rita, from her death-bed, remembered the beauty of life and all living things. To this day roses are associated with her. Rita died on May 22, 1457. Her body was never buried. So many people came to look upon the gentle face of the “Peacemaker of Cascia” that her burial had to be delayed. It became clear that something exceptional was occurring as her body seemed to be free from nature’s usual course. It is still preserved today, now in a glass-enclosed coffin, in the basilica of Cascia. On May 24, 1900, Pope Leo XIII canonized the humble mountain woman - St. Rita of Cascia - whom the world has come to love and venerate as "The Saint of the Impossible." The Feast of St. Rita is celebrated each year on May 22.

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

May 27, 2018 Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Happy Trinity Sunday! In today's Gospel, we hear Jesus declare together all three Persons of the Trinity. "Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. When we speak of the Trinity, two different theological words are sometimes used: immanent and economic. The immanent Trinity is the life of the three Persons within themselves, the inner harmonious relationship between Father, Son, and Spirit. We see this in the Gospels when Jesus speaks of his Father and promises to send the Holy Spirit. The term "economic" has its roots in the Greek word oikonomia, roughly meaning "household management”. The economic Trinity is our three-Personed God's relationship with creation; it is creation and redemption and ongoing relationship with us. Made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to imitate God's immanence by giving and receiving love with one another in community. However, this is not limited only to those close to us, though that's where love often starts. We also imitate the economy of God when we go out, when we extend our love and care in a life-giving way. "Go therefore ?" Every believer is sent on mission. Every believer is invited to follow Jesus and the Apostles "to the nations”, to the margins, to the people who require a little extra reach. This could be a distant relative, the residents of your local homeless shelter or even the forgotten neighbor next door! When we love well, we create something beautiful—a relationship, a holy moment, a foretaste of heaven. This Trinity Sunday, take some time to examine the relationships in your life. How well do you love those nearest to you? How well do you reach out to those farther away? How are you creating something beautiful?

The Archdiocese of Detroit invites you to attend the Feast of Corpus Christi on Sunday, June 3 at 11:00 am. Mass and Eucharistic procession will take place at Cathedral of the

Most Blessed Sacrament, 9844 Woodward Ave., Detroit.

Pro-Abort Argument: The fetus is totally dependent on the moth-er to live.

Pro-Life Response: Isn’t a toddler dependent on his/her mother, too? Should we allow the killing of toddlers, too?

Pro-abort Argument: Abortion is a private deci-sion between a woman and her doctor. Pro-Life Response: If a woman privately hires a doctor to kill her newborn or toddler, should we interfere?

Pro-Abort Argument: Are you personally going to adopt and care for the babies you don’t want aborted?

Pro-Life Response: If I agree to adopt them, will you agree that women shouldn’t abort them?

Marriage Tip of the Week

Wake up each morning vowing to make the decision to love your spouse no matter what. When you feel anger or negativity, look at your spouse and remember your decision to love in both good and bad times.

Remember, love is both patient and kind.

As we celebrate the mystery of the Trinity, we also realize the mystery of how much God loves and cares for us each day. Believing in this, our lives can then overflow in thanks- giving and praise. This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vin-

cent de Paul brought the love and care of Je-sus to the poor, assisting them with food, util-ity , clothing and furniture, etc. Thank You!
