About the Opportunity NC State University’s Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Vice Provost for Equal Opportunity and Equity. Reporting to the Vice Provost, the Associate Vice Provost will provide planning and decision-making guidance to the Equal Opportunity and Equity (EOE) unit. In addition, the Associate Vice Provost will be expected to lead and manage all aspects of the EOE unit which includes four (4) Equal Opportunity Officers – who conduct investigations, write reports, and conduct training and educational workshops – and one (1) Program Coordinator. This position will also provide strategic planning and assessment for the EOE unit that aligns with the strategic plans of the OIED and University, as well as implementing high level critical analyses of equal opportunity compliance functions. This position will also serve as Deputy Title IX Coordinator, supporting the Vice Provost/University Title IX Coordinator. In this capacity, the incumbent will be called on to review and develop campus-based Title IX-related regulations, practices, and protocols, informational materials, and campus-wide training content; supervise investigation and case management of all Title IX complaints in the EOE unit, as well as serving as an investigator as needed, and advise the Office of Student Conduct on Title IX-related cases; supervise the coordination of Title IX Responsible Employee training for the university community; and proactively collaborate with relevant campus partners on climate assessments related to Title IX. The Associate Vice Provost will also be expected to:

• Inform and support the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity on visioning, planning, and implementing university-level approaches to addressing equal opportunity and non-discrimination issues;

• Inform the Vice Provost/ADA Coordinator about university accessibility issues, supervise the EOE unit’s facilitation of the reasonable accommodation in employment process, and relaying EOE content expertise on disability-related access issues;

• Maintain and build excellent relationships within OIED and throughout the university community;

• Monitor the university’s recruitment, hiring and Equal Employment Opportunity policies and procedures, ensuring the university’s compliance with related state and federal laws, and university policies, regulations and rules;

• Monitor, develop, and administer appropriate policies, regulations and rules related to non-discrimination and equal opportunity;

• Monitor the recruitment of administrative, professional and faculty positions;

• Oversee completion of the University EEO/AA plans, including conducting complex research and statistical analysis in preparation of all affirmative action compliance reports (including workforce analysis, availability data, goals setting, VETS report, and any other reports as required);

• Process and investigate complaints of potential prohibited discrimination, harassment, retaliation, etc. about students, faculty, staff and relevant third parties and provide excellent customer service to all parties through timely communication, complete processes, and efficient and effective case management;

• Provide consultation within the university on how to promote equity and how to address equal opportunity issues;

• Provide guidance to search committees regarding best practices with respect to search procedures and compliance with equal opportunity policies;

• Advise university community on equal opportunity issues (e.g., new laws, trends, best practices); • Facilitate conflict management plans; • Coordinate and facilitate educational opportunities for the university community; • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Preferences The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) is seeking a forward-thinking and innovative individual with strong knowledge of federal and state equal opportunity and affirmative action laws and regulations, specifically including, but not limited to, Title VII, Title IX, ADA, ADEA, USERRA, Executive Order 11246, and Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity state and federal laws. Candidates shall possess a Juris Doctorate or Master’s degree or higher in a related field and at least three (3) years of related professional experience. Candidates possessing an undergraduate degree and at least five (5) years of relevant experience will also be considered.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate five (5) years of progressive experience in affirmative action compliance and equal opportunity policy administration, including preparation of compliance reports, and formal and informal complaint resolution. It is also required for candidates to have previous supervisory experience, specifically in areas where delegation of responsibilities, case management, and time management are necessary.

Further departmental requirements include:

• The ability to maintain confidentiality, employ excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution strategies, use responsible independent judgment, and work collaboratively with different constituencies in a diverse and dynamic university community.

• The ability to respond in a professional manner and perform effectively in high pressure situations.

• Superior verbal and written communication skills. • Demonstrated success in professional relationship building and collaboration. • Strong analytical and research skills, including demonstrated experience with database tools,

development of ad hoc reports, data extraction, and reporting programs/software. • Workshop development and presentation skills.
