THANK YOU The Respect Life Group would like to thank the
parishioners of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish for the
generous support of the Spiritual Adoption Pro-
gram which recently culminated with a Baby
Shower. Two carloads of baby gifts were delivered
to Birthright in West Chester and Mother’s Home
in Darby. Both organizations were extremely grate-
ful. God bless you for your caring love for mothers
and their unborn babies.
Changes for Permanent Deacons in the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia
Archbishop Chaput has recently approved changes for
permanent deacons which are outlined below and take
effect on Palm Sunday of the Passion of Our Lord,
March 24, 2013.
Deacons will now be delegated to assist at (witness)
marriages in the parishes where they are assigned.
Special delegation would be required for a deacon
to witness a marriage in any other parish. Liturgical
norms require when marriage takes place within
Mass, the priest celebrant, and not a deacon, wit-
nesses the marriage.
Permanent deacons will now wear clerical attire, a
gray clerical shirt with a white collar, in the exercise
of their diaconal ministry. When a permanent dea-
con is not exercising his ministry, his attire is that
of the lay faithful.
The age for admission to permanent diaconate for-
mation will be raised from 50 to 55 years of age.
Come hear “Adoption-the Loving Choice” on Monday,
March 4, at St. Peter Church, 2835 Manor Road, West
Brandywine, PA 19320 at 7:00 pm. This free presentation is
geared to couples with fertility issues, who are considering
expanding their home to make room for a child who needs
one, or a woman in a crisis pregnancy who may consider
adoption. Come get answers from couples who have been
through the adoption process and professionals who assist
adoptive families. Visit www.saintpeterchurch.net/

THE VEILING OF STATUES AND CROSSES
The Roman Missal permits, with the approval of the Confer-
ence of Bishops, “the practice of covering crosses and images
in the Church from the Fifth Sunday of Lent.” The United
States Conference of Catholic Bishops gave approval in 2001
noting that the veiling may take place at the discretion of the
local pastor. In accord with this permission crosses and statues
in our church will be veiled on the Fifth Sunday of Lent. As is
traditional, the crosses and statues will be veiled with purple
cloth. Crosses are unveiled following the Good Friday Liturgy,
while statues are unveiled before the beginning of the Easter
Vigil.
The veiling of the crosses and images is a sort of ”fasting” from
sacred depictions which represent the paschal glory of our
salvation. Just as the Lenten fast concludes with the Paschal
feast, so too, our fasting from the cross culminates on Good
Friday in an adoration of the holy wood on which the
sacrifice of Calvary was offered for our sins. Likewise, a fasting
from the glorious images of the mysteries of faith and the
saints in glory, culminates on the Easter night with a renewed
appreciation of the glorious victory won by Christ, risen from
the tomb to win us eternal life.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS WITH BENEDICTION?
If you have attended Stations of the Cross this
Lent, you may have wondered why we have not
concluded with Benediction. Stations of the
Cross is an ancient and venerable devotion, a
form of prayer that may be prayed privately or
with a gathering of the faithful, which is de-
signed to foster a devotion to and meditation
on the mystery of the Passion of Christ. Exposi-
tion of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction
are part of the Church’s official liturgy (public
worship). Whereas in the past Benediction was
frequently added onto the end of another ser-
vice or devotion, like Stations of the Cross, the
current liturgical norms do not envision this.
Eucharistic Benediction is a complete liturgical
service in its own right and should be
celebrated as such.
We have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
every Tuesday following 8:30 am Mass until
Benediction at 5:00 pm. During Lent we have
Stations of the Cross on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm
(followed by confessions until 8:00 pm) and
Fridays at 1:15 pm.
THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT
WERE YOU THERE?
This poignant, interactive presentation com-bines devotions with classic and modern art,
pictures and music to create a multi-media re-
flection on the Lord’s Passion. Spend one hour this Lent to understand the gift of God’s salva-
tion and better appreciate the graces we have been given.

Dear Saints Peter and Paul Community, As you may know, Saints Peter and Paul was one of six schools within the Archdiocese chosen to participate in a pilot pro-gram sponsored by the Connelly Foundation and the International Education Foundation (IEF). For the past two years, we have worked with the Catholic School Development Program to implement best practices in furthering our mission as a Catholic School.
In August 2012, Saints Peter and Paul School appointed a Board of Limited Jurisdiction to promote the school’s mission, vision and strategic goals. This diverse group of parishioners was selected based on specific expertise and history of Saints Peter and Paul support. They oversee the school’s finances, budgeting, financial reporting, facilities, tuition, and strategic planning. All members of our community were mailed a letter from the Board of Limited Jurisdiction asking for support for our mis-sion based fundraising. We hope that all parishioners recognize the value in investing in the future of Saints Peter and Paul School. It is more than a school. It is the Religious Education Center for all of our parish children as well as the home base of our CYO program. Supporting the Annual Fund is an investment in Saints Peter and Paul and the future of the next generations of Catholics. The Board of Limited Jurisdiction and the Saints Peter and Paul School Annual Fund, will provide the long term viability and sustainability of our school program and facility. We thank all the dedicated members of our community and we look forward to the work ahead. Sincerely, Mrs. Margaret Egan Principal
