AWARENESS ON DRUG ABUSE

For decades, governments have criminalized the use of drugs, as well as their possession, production,

and distribution. National commission for human rights has repeatedly documented, this approach to

drug policy has had devastating human rights consequences: undermining the rights to health and

privacy; serving as an excuse for grossly disproportionate punishment, torture, and extrajudicial

killings; and fuelling the operations of organized criminal groups that commit abuses, corrupt

authorities, and undermine the rule of law. Therefore awareness on drug abuse among the students of

The programme commenced at 9am, where the students from KGNC, and other Nursing

Coll eges gave a motivational talk regarding Drug Abuse. The students displayed the charts based

on various aspects of drug abuse such as ill effects of alcoholism, Psychological and Physiological

management for drug abuse, how to improve self-esteem, how family and society are affected by

drug abuse and Consequences of alcohol dependence.

The students from KGNC made the programme more lively with face painting, health

checkup and our MSc.Psychiatric Nursing students conducted assessments to identify the Initial

stage of alcoholism by usmg standard scales and refered the patients to

BarathaMathaDeaddicitoncentre for their recovery. The exhibition was well organized by all the

Nursing colleges and BarathaMatha De addiction centre. It highly benefited the general public,

which was elicited by their valuable feedbacks. During the Programme Mr. R.K.R Anantha

Raman, M.L.A, Govt. Korada, Puducherry facili tated the exhibition.

Finall y the prgramme came to an end by appreciating the students who provided Health talk

and the prize was given to the best 3 speakers from various Nursing colleges by the programme

organizers.Finall y theprogramme came to an end with the sense of gratitude by Mrs. Prabavathy S,

Asso. Professor, HOD, Dept. of Psychiatric Nursing, KGNC.
