Tokom vremena ovo jezero je oteklo u Crno more djerdapskom klisurom.Na vise mesta u srbiji ima praistorijskih ostataka ljudske civilizacije:lepenski vir kod Donjeg milanovca, starcevo kod panceva i vinca kod grockeMore than 520 million years ago, the present territory of Serbia used to be covered by the Thetis Sea. It covered the area from the Atlantic, across Europe, the Mediterranean Sea and north Africa to the island of Sumatra in the east. Powerful tectonic movements later caused the heightening of the land in the territory of the Balkan peninsula, the Serbian Macedonian mass. This is the oldest landmass in Serbia.Tectonic movements that happened over 60 million years ago, caused the greatest changes on the earth including the Balkan peninsula. Two groups of feld mountains rose then: Dinaric and Sars in the west and Carpathian-Balkan in the east. Due to the folding of the feld mountains, a part of Thetis, called Parathetis, separated. The rise of the Alps separated Parathetis into The Pannonian and Vlasko-Pontian lake. Pannonian lake covered the area of present Vojvodina, but over time it flowed into the Black Sea through the Djerdap gorge. There are many places with remnants of ancient human civilizations in Serbia: Lepenski vir near Donji Milanovac, Starcevo near Pancevo and Vinca near Grocka.
