Morning Fire Fighters Fire is magical to children. It emits warmth and light and is used in many types of celebrations around the world. However, fire also has a scary side. For these reason, children need to learn at an early age that fire is not for play. They also need to learn how to protect themselves if they come into contact with fire and the important role of firefighters. Practise this song:

Activity 2:

Activity 1: Using this theme we are going to work this week a little bit more on our fine motor skills. We are going to put the fire out using our pencils and paper. Fireman mark making activity The children could choose the colour they like to follow and follow the lines from the fireman to the fire. Make sure your child holds the pencil with a nice tripod grip. Activity 2: Now, your child can also colour in a firefighter and his equipment using the activity sheet provided. We can make sure he/she is able to recognise the right colours to use for the firefighter’s equipment. Maybe he/she will need some support so show them an image of a firefighter to help. Firefighter colouring activity

Once that the children are confident making the simple shapes maybe they can have a go and try to write lines, wavy lines or also their first number 1.

Use a glue stick to support your child with placing each face on the fingers. At the end support your child to draw on the hose for the firefighters to put out the fire!

Maths Challenge

Full or empty

Activity: The children should focus on the key vocabulary full and empty. The children can use one of their own coat or yours to put different sized objects inside. Afternoon Shapes

Watch the story again and pause where possible to allow your child to explore the different types of shapes they see. Or you can use the template from the previous activity for your child to have a look at. Key vocabulary to practise: Square, rectangle, triangle, circle, oval, star, diamond To help support your children to recognise and identify each of the shapes here are some activities you can do to help them. You can use peas or marshmallows with straws or

Afternoon Length detectives Children to now walk around their house to find different objects that they can use to compare size. These can include socks, shoes, clothing, sticks and any other objects found around the house.

Afternoon Rosie’s Walk obstacle

Using the story, with your child create an obstacle course for them to use their body to move around. Here are some ideas of obstacle courses you can plan to do indoors: 1. Lay out large books, pillows or cardboard squares as stepping stones. Ask your child to step from one to another without touching the floor. Pretend you are crossing a river and don’t want to get wet.

Afternoon Firefighters equipment For the children to explore the different type of equipment that is used by the firefighters. Click the link below to access the images. Cut them out and talk with your child about each of the different equipment the firefighters need and why. Firefighter equipment template Open ended question to ask you child: -Why do they need to wear this type of clothing? Explain to your child that this type of clothing protects the firefighters from the fire, so that they do not get burnt.

sticks to make the shape discussing the following:

- Triangle – this has three corners and three side

- Square – four corners and two side

- Circle – goes round

- Rectangle – two short sides and two long sides

Key vocabulary to practise: Long, short, longer, shorter, compare, short, length. Encourage your children to select the objects from around the house and place them near each other. Model one example of how to compare the length of the objects they selected. For example, shoes. One can be yours and the other his/hers. Put them together and say this one is shorter and this one is longer. Key questions:

- Which one is shorter? - Which one is longer? - Which one is the

longest? - Which one is the

shortest?

2. Create a tunnel with blankets and furniture. We find highchairs perfect for this. 3. Lay out a blanket, ask your child to sit on it, and drag them from one end of the obstacle course to the other on a blanket train. 4. Set out some blocks and get your child to build a tower using however many blocks they are currently able to stack, before moving on to the next station.

-What is the mask for? The mask is to protect the firefighters breathing because the smoke is very strong.

-What is the helmet used for? The helmet is to protect the firefighters head. Just like when you ride a bike you need a helmet.

Encourage children to practise the vocabulary below when completing the obstacle course. Key vocabulary to practise: Under, over, around, jump, walk

-What is the hose used for? The hose is used for putting out the fire. It contains water that helps to get the fire out.

Please have ready the follow materials:

- Old top or plain coat or cardigan

- Glue - Felt or paint

The children should stick the cut out shapes and place them on to their oversized coat like a pocket. Make sure that you are with your child to support them with sticking. Once the pockets are on the coat, give your child either paint or felt, to draw on their patterns using different colours. Please guide your child throughout this activity. Encourage the children to practice the vocabulary learnt from the previous lessons. Suggested extension activity: If you already finished decorating your coat or you are not able to create your own one, you could decorate your own special pockets using this template.

Ingredients (makes 12 cakes) ●100g/4oz butter or unsaturated spread (softened) ●100g/4oz self-raising flour ●100g/4oz caster sugar ●2 eggs Method Show your child where the temperature is on your oven and allow him/her to help you to turn it onto 180°C/Gas 4. Allow your child to whisk all the ingredients until creamy and spoon into a bun tin or bun cases. Cook for 10–15 minutes. To check they are cooked just ask your child to press gently and they should spring back. Once cooled, the cakes can be decorated. To make icing, mix icing sugar and (a tiny bit) of water to and spread it on the buns when cold. Suggested extension activity: Now, it is time to decorate with anything you like (sprinkles, sweets, cherries).

Explain to your child that now we are going to make a handprint fox craft based on our Rosie’s walk story. Resources

Now we will need to trace your child’s hand with a pencil or a crayon. Mummy or Daddy will need to cut out the hand outline. Then, draw a head shape and two triangles for the ears. After that cut the head shape out and paint with white paint on the sides of the head. Please also paint the end of

Decorate with red construction paper & black wheels. Make a hose made from two or three paper towel rolls then covered in black construction paper. Fire Truck You need: 1. A large card board box 2. 4 Paper plates 3. Red, white, and black paint 4. Some large paint brushes Let the children paint the box with the red paint.
