S-Survey Q-Question R-Read R-Recite R-Review

This method was introduced by Francis Pleasant Robinson in his 1946 book Effective Study. SQRRR is a reading comprehension

method. It is a useful technique for fully absorbing written information. It helps one to create a good mental framework of a subject, into which one can fit facts correctly. It helps one to set study goals.

SURVEY - gather the information necessary to focus and formulate goals.

Read the title Read the introduction and/or summary Notice each boldface heading and subheading Notice any graphics Notice reading aids

QUESTION - help your mind engage and concentrate.Turn the title, headings, and/or subheadings into question. As you survey the text, ask a question for each section. Rewrite the questions at the end of the chapter or after each subheading in your own words.

READ -fill in the information around the mental structures you've been building. Look for answers to questions you first raised. Reread captions under pictures, graphs, etc. Reduce your speed for difficult passages. Stop and reread parts which are not clear

Read one section of the chapter at a time. Note all the underlined, italicized, bold printed words or phrases.

RECITE - retrain your mind to concentrate and learn as it reads.Put it in your own words. Summarize in your own words. Orally ask yourself questions about what you have just read. Make notes.

Underline or highlight important points.

Better understanding.

Retain information.

REVIEW - refine your mental organization and begin building memory. Go back to notes. Re-read highlights. Refresh your memory. Continue weekly.

Elicits prior knowledge. Sets a purpose for reading. Allows students to monitor their comprehension. Allows students to assess their comprehension of the text.

THE INFORMATION YOU GAIN FROM READING IS IMPORTANT. IF YOU JUST "DO IT" WITHOUT LEARNING SOMETHING. YOU'RE WASTING A LOT OF TIME. TRAIN YOUR MIND TO LEARN!!!

SQ3R TECHNIQUE HELPS TO UTILIZE THE TIME PROPERLY.
