SPRINGTIME!

A Message from our President… March 2018

We begin the month of March with much to look forward to, not the least of which is our annual fashion show on March 12th. Our six stylish member models (including one handsome husband) will display the latest in Steinmart’s spring fashions. Get ready for an extravaganza! MARCH LUNCHEON Our March buffet luncheon in the beautifully remodeled Lost Lake Clubhouse also calls for the annual election of officers, following February’s nominations. The proposed new slate of officers is: President: Ann Mucera 1st term 1st Vice President: Evi Eskin 1st term 2nd Vice President: Barbara Frink 2nd term Secretary: Linda Gluck 2nd term Treasurer: Irene Rummel 1st term Come prepared to vote! Installations will take place at the April luncheon. The luncheon is full. We’re glad we are able to accommodate nearly all of the members who sent in reservation checks, and regret there will be no room for guests. ACTIVITIES We have some exciting activities lined up in March. A quick reminder about the Savannah, Jekyll & Charleston trip, March 19-23:

Members who are participating in this event: the bus will depart the Lost Lake Golf Club at 8:00 a.m. on Monday March 19. With any questions, please contact Sharon Ivany.

Circle of Friends Knit & Crochet Group At the March meeting, pattern books and magazines donated by one of our very generous members were shared with others. An invitation was sent to Circle of Friends members for the annual end-of-season tea on April 10. If members who plan to attend have not already paid the $5 annual fee, please bring it with you. Bridgewalkers Bridgewalkers is a popular event which gives walkers a chance to stretch our legs, walk at our own pace, and chat with our fellow walkers, followed by home-baked goodies from Carol

Schmidt. Riverbend Park on February 19 was invigorating with a fascinating history as the site of the Seminole Wars. April 13 brings the last walk of the season; we’ll do Bridge Road leading to Hobe Sound Beach, followed by breakfast at Harry and the Natives. THINGS TO REMEMBER:

Occasionally, an event must be cancelled. When this happens, we notify those signed up for that event and make refunds electronically to members’ bank accounts.

Space in an event often becomes available at the last minute. We then include the next person on the wait list. Don’t be discouraged if you end up on a wait list!

If a member finds she is unable to attend an event for which she’s scheduled, please let your hostess (es) know ASAP. Other women on the wait list can then attend the event and you may even be reimbursed for your fee!

Hostesses put a lot of effort into planning, and we much appreciate a phone call if you find you’re unable to make the event.

Soon we begin planning for the 2018-2019 season. If you have a great idea for an event or would like to help host one, we want to hear from you! Suggestion forms are available at the luncheons and on the WCLL website. MEMBERSHIP AND RENEWALS Members may now renew for the 2018-2019 season. Members may renew by:

Placing a check in a designated basket at the March luncheon; or mailing a check to the WCLL post office box:

o WCLL/Membership, PO Box 1857, Hobe Sound, FL 33475.

Dues remain $25.00 per year.

Checks will not be deposited until May. New members joining in March 2018 or later will pay just one fee for the remainder of the 2018-2019 season. SUNSHINE AND HOLIDAYS The month of March brings springtime, St. Patrick’s Day, and Good Friday, with Easter following in April. I wish you all an opportunity to celebrate the holidays of your choice. Shirley Toma is our Sunshine lady. In the past month she has sent four sympathy cards, two on behalf of members, and two to members who’ve lost spouses. She has also sent seven get well cards during this time. Soon, she will donate a beautiful handmade lap blanket made by the Circle of Friends to one recovering member. Please call Shirley if you know of a need for a card or comfort.

March also celebrates Women’s History Month, relevant to all of us! Although women may not often give ourselves credit for our achievements, we should take a moment to reflect on the central role women play in every part of daily life. As said by author Dory Jackson in a recent column, “The month of March signifies the start of

spring, indecisive weather and St. Patrick’s Day and daylight savings time, but it also kicks off Women's History Month, an annual month-long celebration of females’ contributions to society.” Whether your individual contributions have been large or small, please take a moment to acknowledge your own personal accomplishments and achievements.

Many Thanks Finally, thanks to all of you who are working together to make this a valuable and successful season. Ellen Gross, President
