be applied straight from the bottle. The integrated brush allows for thin

LCN ognx foot peeling, LCN ognx foot cream and LCN ognx

foot balm contain high quality Inca Inchi oil. Inca Inchi means

Inca peanut. This nut grows on a herbaceous climber in the

rain forests of the Peruvian Andes. The Inca Inchi oil is derived

through cold pressing. The oil contains about 47 % alpha linoleic

acid and is therefore rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. It is considered

to be the oil with the highest amount of unsaturated fatty acids,

which makes it a perfect ingredient for cosmetic products.

The skin looks younger and revitalised after the use of Inca Inchi

Tell me, what comes to mind when you hear about 25

years of LCN, a kitchen chair and Jürgen Drews?

Kalow: At the beginning of the eighties, an old friend of mine

got me started on the idea to use dental synthetic resins for

fingernail cosmetics. My sister opened our first fingernail salon

in Bad Homburg in 1984 and Jürgen Drews could be booked for

a small sum. There was no stage so he stood on a chair and

sang for all his worth. When looking at these old pictures today,

I think we still haven’t lost the zeal of the beginnings, and have

managed to keep up the initial drive and enthusiasm over all

these years.

You are represented in 65 countries all over the world.

When will the first LCN brochure in Kisuaheli be

published?

Kalow: In the early days of LCN I travelled all over the world

looking for people with the same aims. It was important to

build trust since these people were to invest their money in

my projects. Now, to answer your question: I assume that the

Kisuaheli brochure will be printed in five years at the latest.

Gel or Acrylic?

Kalow: Both are acrylic systems, even if we generally talk about

gel or acrylic. My answer certainly is: gel. We are the European

pioneers for light-curing gels. The reason for this preference is

the high level of bio-compatibility. We have been working on this

in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Janda, one of the most important

specialists in the research of synthetic resins.

Under his leadership we invest a lot of time and money in

developing innovative products and maintaining constant good

compatibility.

How about your strategy for the future? Increasing new

services or new products for fingernail cosmetics?

Kalow: We have always followed both paths. For we are

convinced that besides providing good product quality, the main

success factor is to offer a wide variety of services for modern

beauty salons. Three years ago we acquired the Monteil brand

and developed it further for our customers – as a complementary

offer in the field of skin care.

... in an interviewAren’t all light-curing gels alike? Which is the unique

feature that LCN provides for its customers?

Kalow: For some years light-curing resins have been so-called

cosmetic products and are therefore subject to the stricter

regulations of the cosmetic directive. This did not seem to be

particularly interesting to some of our competitors. LCN products,

however, are developed to meet the highest demands on bio-

compatibility. Without exception.

Another benefit for our customers is the large number of special

products and problem-solvers, which enable some women to

have beautiful nails at all. The product variety of LCN was and is

unique.

Who was at your side from the beginning?

Kalow: My sister, Bettina Hillemacher. Product Development,

Marketing and the LCN Beauty School are mainly influenced by

her. My wife has contributed decisively to our success, since –

being a tax advisor – she has had an eye on the economic side

of the business from the start. Dagmar Raczek has been working

for our company for 25 years. She was our second employee.

Today she is Head of the Export Department. Prof. Dr. Janda,

our Research Director, Martina Wallot, in charge of the Sales

Department for Northern Germany and Bernhard Kammerer, the

Managing Director of Monteil are long-time companions.

It would go beyond the scope of this interview to name all

colleagues who have been working in our team successfully for

many years.

Is it still at all possible to develop innovative products for

fingernail cosmetics?

Kalow: Yes, absolutely. There are still many open questions.

Bonding, further optimisation of compatibility and faster curing

times are only some keywords. Last year we successfully

launched our first organic line for hand and nail care, which has

been well accepted by the market.
