Results from the April 2017 Post-ElecRon Analysis are based on a combinaRon ofqualitaRve data (human-centered design and focus groups) and quanRtaRve data(telephone survey of 405 randomly selected Springfield school district voters thatparRcipated in the April 2017 elecRon and an online survey of all SPS staff). TheresearchwasconductedinJulyandAugustof2017.
SUMMARYOFKEYTHEMESFROMHUMANCENTERED-DESIGNEDINTERVIEWSANDSURVEYRESULTSItemsinboldbelowrepresentthemeswiththegreatestimpactontheApril2017vote.
1. Thereisevidencethattheamountoftaxrequestedexceededtheacceptabletax threshold and the overall size of the request resulted in a nega@veimpactonthevote.
2. Thedefaultposi@onofvotersandstaffistorenovateexis@ngbuildingswhenpossible.
3. The complexity of the issue, alongwith the lack of defini@ve answers toques@onssurroundingtheplan,ledtovoterconcernandconfusion.
4. Whiletherewasageneralunderstandingoftheneedforabond,therewasnosenseofurgencyinthevote.
5. Sourcesclosesttotheclassroomordistrictwereclearlythemostinfluen@alonhowapersonvoted.
6. The currentamountof change takingplacein thedistrictwasmenRoned bystaffasanimpacRngfactor,andtherewasevidenceintheinterviewsthatthisinfluencedgeneralvoterpercepRon.
