So what has 8000 legs and 5000 lbs. of Pure Color? The Eugene Rad Run! This was the most recent charity event that LeDoux participated in. It was an excellent event that raised money for the local Relief Nursery which focuses on preventing child abuse & neglect.

“I think it is so important to not only support local charities but to be able to participate in them as well.” Kacey explains, “I can’t wait for the next event, Race for the Cure.” Thus far The Race for the Cure has raised over 1.9 Billion Dollars! Eugene No. 4 ~Travel & Leisure Magazine

High Brow Chow—Food Carts Hottest New Trend!

Comforts– The name says it all! Stacy Sullivan was a single woman breaking into the food industry found that it was a lot harder than she im-agined. After having worked 5 years locally in the catering sector she was ready to venture out on her own. She decided it was time to take the plunge and bought her food cart a year ago. She has investors but she is the only one working the food cart ( a lot of others have at least a 2 person team) but she was ambitious and not a stranger to hard work … easily she is working 60—80 hours a week! But she is doing what she loves… Her goal she said is to be able to get to a point where she is able to offer a take out menu for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner 5-6 days a week. She has worked hard to partner with local farmers and farmers markets to bring the freshest of ingredients to her dishes. Her “Buy Fresh-Buy Local” mantra is paying off. She has established a great reputation with the local community. That is what is so unique to Eugene is that customers will go out of their way to support local small businesses over that of the big box operators. Word of mouth advertising is what drives the market here in Eugene and they are saying great things about Comforts!

Delacata One of the

hottest tickets in town!

5 out of 5 stars and they deserve

Stephen from Delacata is in full agreement, “Your local reputation will make or break you …” Owners Stephen and Colleen Sheehan are bringing some serious southern cuisine to Eugene! Having been to Naw’lins a couple of times you know good southern cooking when you taste it! Right now they are in the pro-

cess of taking their food cart to the next level.. They feature things like fried catfish, shrimp po’boys, to

the left you can see their shrimp on cheddar and jalapeno grits…one of my favorites, yum!

Within a couple weeks they will be starting their own downtown brewery and southern Nawlin’s-styled restau-rant. Something that Eugene has never seen before. Stephen is no stranger to the brewing business his grandfather was credited as the owner of the first brewery in the US. He opened the Tennessee Brewing com-pany and was running ale before, during and after prohibition! They are going to be bringing a twist to the standard brew. They will be the first to feature “Sour Beers”, Colleen explains it is not sour per se but it is an indescribable taste, “kind of a mix between beer, champagne and wine. We are hoping to get a cross over with the wine drinkers out there.” I think they are going to love it! They will be working with some of our largest local vineyards by buying some of their grapes and aging their beer in wine -seasoned oak barrels. “We are excited because we are going to be able to bring something new and fresh to Eugene!”

This dynamic duo have set out to save the world, one sandwich at a time. Dawn and Summer ARE the Sandwich League! Dawn Sellers has had 4 years in catering and was very well received she specialized in high profile yet down to earth clients for example The Indigo Girls and other cool gigs…Catering gave her a real good perspective to get out there and experience what people really want! Summer Sellars also is an accom-plished chef and was a renowned Culinary Chef for 8-10 years. And together they make up the unstoppable force known as The League of Sandwich. Together they decided to combine their talents and take the plunge a couple of years ago. These gals easily work up to 16 hour days and are a force to be reckoned with! Add that strong work ethic with the “mind blowing support” they have received from the community and they literally have a recipe for success! “It is the community support that keeps us so inspired. Because of that we al-ways try and make sure we are always giving our best to our customers, supporters and friends!

The other important thing we credit our success to is the fact we always, “BUY FRESH-BUY LOCAL,” it is one of our mantra you will hear often in Eugene but for Dawn & Summer it is a strict guideline they use. They explain that they made a decision in the beginning that they were going to support the local Oregon community and that they did. They get all their produce, meat and cheese here locally. They also know the importance of supporting our lo-cal farmers and businesses. They believe in giving back to the community that supports them so well!

You definitely have to check them out. Below are their AMAZING must have Sandwiches:

1. Pork on Pork 2. Leroy Burger 3. Big “O” 4. Chaddywhacker

Check out these favorites: the Pork On Pork. A little bit of pulled pork on the grill, add some bacon and top it off with barbecue sauce - and french fries. They are rapidly becoming the most popular food cart in Eugene. First off let’s just get it out there...you have to throw out any idea of dieting that day so once you do, you are good to go! Bonus -The Sandwich League & Ninkasi Brewery share a very nice outdoor covered seating area!

NOTEWORTHY—Their “signature” sandwich is their Pork on Pork or Porkalicious it is something to behold!

If you are looking for Kayaking adventures...Oregon has it!

So one thing that I didn't know was there are actually 2 types of Kayaks there is the SIT, “Sit-On-Top” kayak or the SI “Sit Inside” Kayak. For example if you were strictly a Kayaker you would be looking at the Sit In-side Kayak since they are smaller and sleeker and are designed with better maneuverability and ability to handle white water. For fishing and packing gear you would be looking for a “Sit-On-Top” kayak and those will generally be a lot wider and have higher weight capacity, storage, stability and safety which makes them ideal for a fisherman, camper or when you would need to carry more gear. Once you choose the right Kayak the next step would be choosing the right destination. Next step picking your destination… One of the rea-sons Oregon is so popular is because we offer a wide range of choices... from the beginner to the “adrenaline junkie” expert who craves the high from hitting Oregon’s white water rapids. No matter what your needs are Oregon gives you the options to choose the right spot for you and your level of exper-tise. If you are more on the beginner side try the Willamette River it’s calm waters offers the perfect spot for a relaxing day trip. For a good camping/fishing trip Michael Hafemann, LeDoux Marketing, recommends taking Green Peter Dam to Foster Lake. “Although it’s only a 2 mile run there are 3 major rap-ids one after another so if you are looking for a more challenging trip this definitely fits the bill, this trip fin-ishes with a BANG!”

LeDoux’s Client Service Representative, Lora Polk has travelled extensively throughout the Great North-west and loves sharing some of her kayak/canoeing experiences. One of her most memorable one oc-curred in Grand Teton National Park. Lora and her significant other Dan were kayaking at Jenny Lake

while they were passing sunbathers and picnickers out of the woods a black bear suddenly appeared and stormed the shoreline sending everyone scattering! Fortuitously leaving all their baskets of food and snacks for the hungry bear! Later that day they made it to Oxbow Bend and while Lora and Dan maneu-vered their way through the channels a cow moose suddenly stepped out of the willows no more than 80 feet directly in front of their kayak. When the cow Elk spotted Lora and Dan she began stomping her hoofs which is a universal warning to let everyone know she was claiming her territory. As soon as she did this it was mutually decided that it was time to go! Which they did, but what a great photo-op! Lora explains that you never know what will happen when you start off on what you think is a leisurely kayak trip before you know it can easily turn into an unexpected action packed adventure!

Some of Lora’s favorite Oregon Canoe Trails:

Coyote Creek, Beaver Creek, Siltcoos River, Hosmer Lake, Waldo Lake, Sparks Lake, Summit Lake, Neha-lem Bay & River, Klamath Nat’l Wildlife Refuge.
