OUR MISSION
Marguerite's Place, Inc. is a 501
(c)(3) organization that provides
the physical, emotional,
educational, and social support
services homeless women with
children need to achieve and
sustain self-sufficiency.
MARGUERITE’S PLACE, INC.
Where change begins
Since 1994, Marguerite’s Place, Inc.’s Childcare Center has focused on the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the Nashua community. Located within a transitional housing program, the center engages children of varying abilities and backgrounds in a social and emotional development curriculum based on insight into the needs of homeless children.
Many of the children at the center suffer from traumatic stress, abuse and developmental delays. Trauma can undermine a child’s ability to learn, form relationships, and function appropriately in the classroom. At Marguerite’s Place, the educators focus on building a supportive environment where trust flourishes.
Understanding the complexities of early childhood development for optimal learning has heightened in recent years with the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and its complement in early childhood policy, Good Start, Grow Smart. These early learning guidelines serve as a framework for practice and assessment. Early childhood educators are required to meet certain educational qualifications and receive professional development to enhance their abilities to support young children’s learning.
Candace Gordon, the Director of Childcare at Marguerite’s Place, Inc., addressed the challenges of regular staff development in our environment.
“Our teachers are special. They are challenged daily by our children who suffer from traumatic stress. So by giving them any additional tools and an opportunity to take a breather from the hustle and bustle of the classroom to focus on new techniques and their own growth, is a luxury.”
A luxury which Marguerite’s Place teachers will experience thanks to a collaborative partnership with Child Care Aware of New Hampshire, (CCAoNH), a child care resource and referral program.
Through this partnership our childcare staff will be able to review professional development needs, create an individualized action plan, learn how to navigate the NH Professional Registry, and receive on-site training and technical assistance on the updated NH Early Learning Standards and the NH Early Childhood Credential. At the conclusion of this two year commitment and upon completion of the credentialing application, our childcare staff will be awarded with free admittance to the CCAoNH Conference for a staff retreat.
“Giving teachers the opportunity to attain a professional credential through the Division of Health and Human services/ Child Development Bureau, will help to bring more awareness to the importance of early education and quality caregivers,” concluded Gordon.
SPRING 2017
That importance cannot be overstated. Neither can the importance of your continued support for the children in these programs.
Marguerite’s Place, Inc. hosts only two major fundraisers a year. The spring event, entitled Miami Nights, our 80s Dance Party Fundraiser directly benefits the children’s programs (you can see more about this event on our website).
In addition, your tax-deductible donations are greatly appreciated and will be used to help us maintain the quality of our childcare programs. If you are able to contribute to the children’s programs at Marguerite’s Place, Inc., we’d like to make it as easy as possible! To that end, you’ll find an envelope inside this publication.
If you are unable to make a monetary donation at this time, please look at our Wish List or other opportunities to get involved on our website.
