Lenten Regulations + Everyone over 14 years of age is bound to abstain from meat on all Fridays of Lent. + During Lent, Catholics are encouraged to pray more often. It is the ideal time to receive the sacrament of penance (confession). + Almsgiving, gifts to charity and to the poor are encouraged as a way of sharing God’s gifts to us.

The 40 day season of Lent has begun. Please read the Lenten Regulations to help you gain the most spiritual gifts during these coming days.

“Repent and believe in the Gospel”.

Update on Recent Storm Damage The January rain and wind storm caused substantial damage to our campus. Numerous trees were damaged, fences knocked down and worst of all, tree limbs blew down and fell on the church and rectory roofs. Conse-quently, we had leaks inside our 90 year old church interior. Repairs have been started so that leaks won’t continue but there will be continuing efforts to fix everything that was affected. Your patience with inconveniences and continued support to our Improvement/Building Fund is needed. A second collections will be taken up this weekend

for the Improvement/Building Fund.

W e are very grateful to those who have continued to support our parish during

these long months of COVID 19. Because Mass attendance has been limited, the offertory collections are also much less. Our income for the month of January was $23,438.00 (about $5,859.50 per week). Because of the many steps we have taken to reduce expenses, the amount we need is now $33,600.00 per month, (or weekly $8,400.00). This past month was lower than what we need. We hope you will continue to help us.

*ENVELOPE USERS: If you wish to receive a year-end statement of your donations, call the office at 916 421-1414, and leave your name,

envelope number and phone number with the request for your 2020 statement.

It is still possible to make your offertory donation by send-ing it thru the mail to: St. Rose Church, P. O. Box 246070, Sacramento, CA 95824 or online at our parish website: stroseinsacramento.com. Donations can even be dropped into the black secure mailbox outside the rectory entrance.

A Lenten Prayer My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and that I think I am following your will does not mean I am actually doing so. But I believe the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all I am doing. I hope I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Primera Lectura Genesis

First Reading Genesis God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, and the various tame and wild animals that were with you and came out of the ark. I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth.” God added: “This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you and every living creature with you: I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds, I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings.”

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 25 R. (cf. 10) Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep your covenant. Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me your paths, Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior. R. Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep your covenant. Remember that your compassion, O LORD, and your love are from of old. In your kindness remember me, because of your goodness, O LORD. R. Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep your covenant. Good and upright is the LORD, thus he shows sinners the way. He guides the humble to justice, and he teaches the humble his way. R. Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep your covenant. - 3 -

Gospel Mark 1:12-15 .The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him.

After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Evangelio Mark.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION O Jesus, I turn toward the holy tabernacle where You live hidden for love of me.

I love You, O my God. I cannot receive You in Holy Communion. Come nevertheless, and visit me with Your grace. Come spiritually into my

heart. Purify it. Sanctify it. Render it like unto Your own. Amen.

Segunda Lectura 1 Peter

Second Reading 1 Peter

Beloved: Christ suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the Spirit. In it he also went to preach to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient while God patiently waited in the days of Noah during the building of the ark, in which a few persons, eight in all, were saved through water. This prefigured baptism, which saves you now. It is not a removal of dirt from the body but an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven
