He is Risen - Alleluia! This week we held our annual Spring Concert here in College. All of our partner primaries were involved and had been preparing for the event for some time. Each of the primary schools took part in a rehearsal with Mrs Saunders in the weeks running up to the event. They then met us here in College on the morning of their evening performance to rehearse with our live band ready for the show. On Monday 14 March we welcomed St Gerards, St Michaels and Holy Family to perform with us. Each of the primary schools joined our singers here in College from Vocaliser and Harmony Singers to perform four joint numbers: Car Washby Rose Royce, Dancing in the Streetsby Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Love Trainby The OJays and Sweet Soul Musicby Arthur Conley. The primary schools then took it in turns to perform group numbers that they themselves had prepared especially for the event back in College. On Tuesday 15 March we welcomed St Bedes, St Basils, Our Ladys and St John Fisher who again joined our singers for their evening performance. Over the two nights our students from College performed in Guitar Group, Orchestra, Harmony Singers, Vocaliser, Woodwind Group and our live house band. Many of the students were involved in more than one extracurricular group. We were treated to a wide range of Soul and Motown music from Stevie Wonder to Ray Charles, with some music from newer soul artists like Bruno Mars too! The event was fantastic and it was lovely to see our students working so closely with younger pupils from our partner primary schools. Were already looking forward to next year, and celebrating our 25 th anniversary of the Spring Concert. Congratulations everybody. You did us all proud!

On Monday 14 March we welcomed St Gerard’s, St Michael’s and Holy Family to perform with us. Each of the primary schools joined our singers here in College from Vocaliser and Harmony Singers to perform four joint numbers: ‘Car Wash’ by Rose Royce, ‘Dancing in the Streets’ by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, ‘Love Train’ by The O’Jays and ‘Sweet Soul Music’ by Arthur Conley. The primary schools then took it in turns to perform group numbers that they themselves had prepared especially for the event back in College. On Tuesday 15 March we welcomed St Bede’s, St Basil’s, Our Lady’s and St John Fisher who again joined our singers for their evening performance. We’re already looking forward to next year, and celebrating our 25

th anniversary of the Spring Concert.

Congratulations everybody. You did us all proud!

Leading up to this much anticipated event that could make or break their baking careers, staff had to make a cake and enter it for free into the competition. Our judges comments were:

‘The quality of the cakes was amazing’ - Mrs Berry

‘Tasty tantalising treats! A first class effort’ - Mrs McComas

‘Fantastic cakes and they looked as good as they tasted‘ - Mrs Verdin

‘This has to be the nicest job I have done all year! The cakes were delicious and I wish I could have awarded everyone a winner’s medal’ - Ms Roberts

Other participants:-

Mrs Nolan Mrs Behan Mrs Penney Mrs Saunders

When the winners were announced, Mrs Wood said to us, “I hope my grandmother is proud of me.” After a brief chat with Mrs Wood we caught up with Mrs Nightingale. “I am glad I could make Year 9 proud!” I then had a chat with a teacher who is fantastic at baking, Mrs Shannon Van Zelst. I told her that her cake was being auctioned and that it had reached a bid of £15.00. Her reaction was “Age is foolish and forgetful when it underestimates youth.” Finally I met up with Mrs Fazakerley. “I was delighted that my millionaire shortbread was enjoyed so much. It was fabulous to be part of the ‘Bake Off’ with so many wonderful entries. I love baking and use many recipes from BBC Good Food as well as Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. Let’s carry on baking!”

A total of £101.12 was raised. Proceeds for the Good Shepherd fund.

alive with your love.

Amen
