Director’s Message

3 • SPRING 2021 • HeartToHeart • www.marysinnmaternityhome.org

Dear Friends,

The past couple of years I’ve gotten into gardening. It is good for me to be out in the sun and fresh air, digging in the dirt, and watching our yard slowly

become beautiful. It dawned on me this spring that there are a lot of analogies between gardening and maternity home work. In both cases we plant seeds, give them warmth and light, and hope that we see them sprout. In both cases we take ground that is hard and we water and till it to prepare it for something greater. And in both cases we try to

bring beauty out of a place that was full of weeds. Sometimes we’re successful, and sometimes it takes longer to see the results we hope for. But no matter how much effort we put into either gardening or our maternity home work, the bottom line is that it’s God who causes the growth; we are simply blessed to be co-workers with Him.

May God bless you, and may God bless Mary’s Inn!

Colleen PasnikDirector

Infants of homeless mothers need special care immediately after

birth four times as often as other children.

Homeless babies show significantly slower development

than other children.

to Miss Lori Obendorf’s class!Thank YouFirst Grade Students at Our Lady of Guadalupe made these houses for their Lenten Service Project as a daily reminder to pray for the moms and babies of Mary’s Inn. What a creative way to teach our young friends the importance of home, prayer, and babies! Well done, Miss Obendorf!

“We gave Mary’s Inn money and prayers and we hope they have a good time with their babies. I like that we got to draw pictures for them.” -Logan, 1st grader

“We made houses that were very colorful. People in our class did so good. We put prayers and money in them. I liked making the prayers and putting them in the houses.” -Claire, 1st grader

The earrings are sterling silver & .01 total Diamond weight.

Shepherds of Prayer

Meet our New Board member

Mary’s Inn Daily Prayer“Loving Father, we entrust Mary’s Inn to your Divine Providence, and humbly submit ourselves to Your holy will. Please guide and direct every aspect of this mission as we seek to offer hope to the hopeless and life to the unborn.

Lord Jesus, hear our prayers for the mothers we serve. Through the intercession of our Mother Mary, may we guide and support each young mother, calming her fears and strengthening her faith.

Holy Spirit, open our ears that we might hear Your voice and follow Your inspiration. Fill Your daughters with Your peace and blessing so that they may bring their children into this world safely and in good health. Help us all to grow in holiness.

We ask all this in Jesus’ name. Amen”

We are Grateful! We are truly grateful for every donation to Mary’s Inn. However, as a way to be good stewards of our resources, instead of sending a tax receipt for each donation throughout the year, we will send you one tax letter in January 2022 which will reflect all your 2021 donations. Please call Colleen if you have any questions.

Deacon Bill BiverI am Deacon Bill Biver. I recently retired from full time pastoral care ministry at St. Joseph the Worker Church here in Dubuque. But as an ordained deacon I am still active and always looking for ways to be of service in our greater community. Mary’s Inn has a wonderful reputation for assisting expectant mothers who are in need of support, encouragement, and other resources as they face a crucial point in their lives. New on the Mary’s Inn Board, I hope I can work with the other board members in maintaining and expanding this pro-life ministry, possibly bringing to it another perspective and also offering my gifts wherever needed. I am looking forward to where the Holy Spirit leads us in the year to come.
