Spring 2017 Course Registration: Instructions Begins: October 13, 2016 (8:00am MDT) Ends: December 6, 2016 (11:59pm MST) For details and policies about the course registration process, please review the Spring 2017 Course Registration Packet. Registration is open to all confirmed students on a first-come, first-serve basis. When registration first opens, many students will be attempting to register. Those logging in from 8:00am-9:00am MST can expect slow loading times and delays due to increased web traffic. We appreciate your patience and understanding. You must log into your MyPassport page and RAMweb page before course registration opening on October 13th. You will need to take several steps in advance to be Registration Ready on October 13 th . Many students have failed to do this and had problems logging in. This has delayed their registration and in some cases, resulted in classes filling before they were able to get into the system. Remember that you will not be able to register through RAMweb until your deposit has been processed. It typically takes 2 to 3 business days after you pay your deposit for it to be processed and for the registration to be open for you. TIP! You must use RAMweb to register for your courses, but you should read syllabi, view the times they will meet, check the dates of their Field Classes, find your textbooks, etc. on the Spring 2017 Courses and Field Classes page, which is much more user-friendly. We recommend having RAMweb open in one tab and the Courses and Field Class page in another!

Spring 2017 Course Registration: Instructions Begins: October 13, 2016 (8:00am MDT) Ends: December 6, 2016 (11:59pm MST)

For details and policies about the course registration process, please review the Spring 2017 Course Registration Packet. You will need to take several steps in advance to be Registration Ready on October 13th.

TIP! You must use RAMweb to register for your courses, but you should read syllabi, view the times

they will meet, check the dates of their Field Classes, find your textbooks, etc. on the Spring 2017

Courses and Field Classes page, which is much more user-friendly.

We recommend having RAMweb open in one tab and the Courses and Field Class page in another!

How to Register for Courses 1. Set up your Colorado State University Electronic Identification (EID) and password Go to http://www.semesteratsea.org/ and click on My Passport in the top bar, and click Log In.

On the login page, your username is firstname.lastname.sp17. If you have never logged in to My Passport, have forgotten your username or password, or experience trouble logging in, please email [email protected] for assistance. You should take care of any login issues prior to October 13, or your ability to register for courses will be delayed.

Click on My Passport for Students and LLLs.

Directions for setting up your eID for the first time will be outlined in the Self Service Portal section of MyPassport. 2. Log in to Colorado State’s student web portal, RAMweb using your CSU EID https//ramweb.colostate.edu/index.aspx

3. Complete Registration Ready steps (if applicable). In the upper-left corner, the RAMweb main menu will display a checklist of items students must complete before you can register for classes. Items that must be completed will appear with a red “X”; items that have already been completed will appear with a green “√”. Note that not all students will need to complete these steps.

Once all Registration Ready Steps have been completed, a green “√” will indicate that you are now ready to register for classes.

4. Search for classes/find CRN for desired courses In order to register for courses, you must first have each course’s CRN (Course Registration Number, a five-digit unique identifying number for each course). To get these numbers, you can either look on the Semester at Sea Spring 2017 Courses and Field Classes page on the SAS website OR on RAMweb under Semester at Sea Class List (see below). BE SURE TO DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR CLASS TIMES AND FIELD CLASS TIMES TO ENSURE THEY DON’T CONFLICT.

Make sure you’ve recorded your desired courses’ CRNs. You should list these in order of priority so that you are ready with at least 6 options. You will need to enter these numbers in order to register for each of your desired classes. 5. Register for classes At the specified time (0800 Mountain Time Zone on October 19, 2016) the REGISTRATION option on RAMweb will be available.

6. Select appropriate registration term: Spring 2017

7. Add CRNs of desired classes to registration page. Click the “Submit Changes” button.

8. Drop classes Select from the drop-down menu which courses you would like to drop from your schedule. Then click the “Submit Changes” button.

GLOBAL STUDIES REMINDER: You will automatically be enrolled in Global Studies before Course Registration opens on October 19. DO NOT DROP GLOBAL STUDIES. This is a required course that cannot be substituted for any other course on the voyage. Should you inadvertently drop the course you will be reenrolled.

9. View final schedule on the “Current Schedule” section

10. ERROR MESSAGES Any registration errors will appear in the “Registration Add Errors” section. A brief description of the error will appear in the “status” column. Here are some common error messages you might receive: -Course section is full: the course you have chosen is at its capacity and there are no more seats available

-Duplicate CRN: You have already registered in this course(s) and are attempting to register again.

-CRN does not exist: You typed an invalid CRN in the registration field

Page 11: Spring 2017 Course Registration: Instructions Begins: October 13

-Maximum hours exceeded: You have attempted to register for more than the maximum number of courses (4). Those requiring registration in 15 credits will be able to register in a fifth course one week after registration opens. This is 0800 MDT on Thursday, October 20th. If you have questions about adding a fifth class, although it is not recommended, email [email protected].

-Registration minimum: All students are required to be registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Once you have registered for that number of classes, you will not be able to drop below that amount again. Here is the message you will receive if you attempt to do this

FIFTH COURSE REMINDER! You are allowed to take a fifth course, bringing your total number of credits

up to 15. However, we strongly advise you to avoid this, even though five courses is the standard load at

many universities. The rhythm of the voyage leaves you with very little down-time, and the academic

schedule is compressed. You are either in class on the ship or you are in a port: there are no weekends.

Students with a fifth course typically devote 1-2 days in each port to their additional coursework.

Page 12: Spring 2017 Course Registration: Instructions Begins: October 13

-Class schedule conflict: You have attempted to register for a course that meets at the same time as another course. Note that EITHER the class time may conflict OR the field class time may be conflicting. Be sure to double-check your class meeting times, A and B days, and field class days. You will need to correct your CRN selections and then resubmit your request.

-(Laboratory) required. Click CRN for details: Lecture/Laboratory/Recitation required. Need to enter BOTH CRNs. Some courses require enrollment in an additional laboratory or recitation section to complete credit hour requirements. This is outlined the Courses and Field Class page.

Page 13: Spring 2017 Course Registration: Instructions Begins: October 13

If you have attempted to register for the lecture and lab/recitation section of the course and receive an error indicating you have not successfully been enrolled, you may have not registered for the right pair. If the lecture is section 500, register for L50. If the lecture is section 501, register for L51.

Stop Enrollment If you encounter a Stop Enrollment message on a class, please contact Semester at Sea for advice. It could be that the course is filled or is under consideration for cancellation.

How to Swap Classes when your schedule is complete at 12 hours Choose which class you want to drop and choose the Drop on Web from the drop down menu in the Action column. Enter the CRN that you want to add in the Worksheet. Click the Submit Changes button. It will only drop the course if you were able to successfully add the new one.

Final Reminders 1. Prerequisites Pay careful attention to any prerequisites listed on the Spring 2017 Courses and Field Class page or in your courses’ syllabi. Do not register for courses for which you do not meet the prerequisite(s). You must be able to demonstrate that you have met prerequisite equivalencies to the course professor through your prior transcripts. If you do register for a course and do not meet the prerequisites, you may be removed from that course during open registration or during the drop/add process on the ship. 2. Drop/Add Drop/Add is your final opportunity to make changes to your schedule. It occurs on the ship on the evening of B1, after two full class days. We will re-open the course registration option in RAMweb, and you will be able to adjust your classes on a space-available basis. There will be a small number of textbooks available onboard the ship only for students participating in drop/add.

QUESTIONS? If you have any questions about course registration, please contact the Semester at Sea office at 1-800-854-0195, or email [email protected].
