Gathering the ingredients for
successCommitment, growth, relationship building, nimbleness, and a little bit of elbow grease – the perfect recipe for a successful hospital founda-tion. Over the years, community members and the employees of Columbus Community Hospital have supplied the necessary ingredients to assist the CCH Foundation in reaching its goals, planning for the future and setting its sights on new opportuni-ties.
EndowmentsAn ongoing goal is growing the CCH Foundation’s five endowments, which include two general endowments, the women’s health endowment, an infrastructure and equipment endowment, and a community education endowment. The endowments, which are overseen by the CCH Foundation Board of Directors, were created several years ago to be used to benefit future community projects and hospital needs, giving donors the ability to give a gift in perpetuity.
“We are about halfway to our goal for the general endowments,” said Kristi Line, who began her journey as CCH’s new Founda-tion Executive Director in January 2016. “It’s exciting to see how a whole community can work together to benefit everyone and leave a lasting impact.”
General endowment funds are generated through memorial and honorarium dona-tions, planned giving (gifts left through wills, bequests and other methods), and through the CCH Foundation’s annual events (Toasts & Tastes, Golf Classic, Chicken Shoot).
“We plan to reach the $1 million mark for our general endowments by Dec. 31, 2020,” said

In order to increase knowledge of planned giving, the CCH Foundation is providing free educational and planning ses-sions for community members regarding estate planning. “Our third annual estate planning seminar will take place this year,” explained Line. The ses-sions are open to anyone who would like to learn more about estate planning.
“We are also planning quarterly lunch and learn sessions featuring guest speakers, who will discuss health and wellness topics,” said Line. “All sessions will be free, with our first one taking place in June.”
Employee GivingColumbus Community Hospital employees pride themselves in being strong supporters of not only the hospital, but the CCH Foundation. Each year, employees participate in assisting the CCH Foundation in its mission by volunteering at CCH Foundation events and donating funds through the employee giving program.
In 2015 alone, CCH employees donated $14,630 and voted to use the funds for the purchase of two infusion chairs for the Emergency Department, a bariatric lift for patient care, and a donation of $3,500 to the Live It! Nutrition Program for Teens (a nutrition program

“You can tell that the employees (at CCH) love to work here and that they are passionate about giving back to their family, friends and neighbors through their donations to the CCH Foundation,” said Line. “They don’t see it as giving to the hospital, they see it as giving to the people that they care for every day.”
The CCH Foundation Board of DirectorsThe CCH Foundation recently honored Russ Fredrick, CCH Founda-tion Board member, for serving three consecutive three-year terms on the Foundation Board, most recently as vice chair. Fredrick also served nine years on the CCH Board of Directors from 1997 to 2006.Nine community members from across the hospital’s service area make up the CCH Foundation Board of Directors. The 2016 board includes: Dorothy Priske, Eric Cotter, Eric Anthon, Julie Bergholz, Lori McNulty, Sheldon Benzine, Anne Donahue, Patrick Vander Sanden, and Jill Huizenga.
“It is such an array of people in regard to where they live and their professions. It’s great to see such camaraderie and the variety provides the board with a broad perspective of what is important throughout the hospital’s service area.”

The Columbus Community Hospital Foundation prides itself in supporting the hospital’s mission through the administration of funds to various programs and services the hospital provides. During the past year, funds were generated through donations, both monetary and in kind, and were received from community members and business leaders, as well as the hospital’s own team members, medical staff and volunteers. This year alone, Foundation donations have made the following possible:

Surgical Services CenterIntegrated Operating Room Audiovisual System
Private rooms and numerous windows letting in natural light are just a few of the features in our new surgical services addition, which opened in August 2015. The new 11,850 square-foot surgery center doubled in size from its previous 6,100 square-foot ground floor location. By moving the surgery center to the hospital’s first floor, we enhanced patient convenience and privacy.
The center features three spacious operating rooms, measuring 600 square feet, to allow for up-to-date technology, including an audiovisual integration system and booms mounted to the ceiling to hold essential equipment. The audiovisual system provides new surgical capabilities during minimally invasive, image-guided interventional procedures. It also provides improved post-surgical communication with patients and their families, with real-time access to video and images.

XXWinter 2009 HEALTH LINES
The Lights of Love is an annual event hosted by the Volunteers of Columbus Community Hospital. The event, held the second Sunday of December, invites friends of the Columbus Community Hospital to show appreciation for family and friends through the purchase of a light in their memory or honor. White lights are given in memory of those we have lost. Colored lights are given in appreciation of those who are living. Blue lights are given in honor of those in the U.S. Military. Proceeds from the event are used to purchase Lifeline units for the CCH Lifeline Program.

Thank you to all of the area community members who keep Columbus Community Hospital and its patients close to your heart. Because of you, our patients, both young and old, receive the best care possible close to home. Throughout the year we receive donations of various items to assist in caring for our patients and making their stay or visit a little more comfortable.
Here are just a few of those caring community members who donated items to the hospital in 2015.

Sue Schweitzer, RN, Director of Outpatient Services at Columbus Community Hospital (CCH) (pictured left) accepts a donation of chemotherapy comfort kits from Cheyenne Molnar of Columbus (center), Mary Kay Independent Sales Director, and Andi Uelmen of Sun Prairie (right), Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant. The two Mary Kay representatives contacted community members and business leaders in the Columbus area to raise funds for the kits, which contain items to comfort chemotherapy patients. The nearly 100 kits were given to the CCH Breast Health Program, the CCH Cancer Navigation Program, and the Dean Clinic Columbus Oncology program. The kits will be distributed to patients receiving services through one of the three programs.
