DID YOU KNOW?
Good News Jail & Prison Ministry has chaplains serving daily in 22 states and 20 countries. The presence of a chaplain assures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is pre-sented to all who care to hear. Our chaplains share the love of Christ while facilitating the ministry of thousands of volunteers to maximize the work of the Gospel.
1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No
temptation has overtaken you
except what is common to man
kind. And God is faithful; he will
not let you be tempted beyond
what you can bear. But when
you are tempted he will also provide a way out so
that you can endure it” (NIV).
Addiction is such a disruptive force. It tears apart
families. It destroys careers. It slowly deteriorates
us from being the person that God intended. As a
result of various addictions, many have found
themselves on the opposite side of the law and
eventually incarcerated.
God is the only thing that can keep us
grounded from falling into our addictions.
His word says that he will always make a
way of escape. Rest assured he will do it
because his love for his children is unparal-
leled.
All the times that we have failed in battling
our addictions have come as a result of not
taking him at his word. We tend to compart-
mentalize our problems into what God can
have and what we think we can handle on
our own. The things that we think we can handle
feed our flesh and cause us to draw away from
Christ. As a result we go through so much unneces-
sary pain that God would love to see prevented.
One of the things that God put on my heart, when I
took the job of chaplain, was to let those struggling
with addiction see there is a way to overcome. My
wife Janett and I used to purchase recovery bibles
for inmates in California. They really bring people
to understand God’s message; that of love and
hope. These bibles incorporate the 12 steps of re-
covery with the scriptures.
We now have a program set up at the Monroe Cor-
rectional Facility that helps recovering addicts gain
a better understanding of God
through a 12 step program.
Those involved go through a
detailed biblical question and
answer course. The questions
are quite personal and cause
a lot of introspection. After
they complete the course
they are awarded a Recovery
Devotional Bible.
I can say that the bible works.
I’ve seen it open up the eyes
of men and women who had
otherwise been confused by scripture. It brings
God’s word into practical terms. Below are some
testimonials from those who have completed the
course study and received a recovery bible:
“Through the 12 steps and a very important tool,
The Recovery Bible, I for the first time in 7 years of
battling this disease believe I have the faith,
knowledge, and courage to overcome alcoholism.”
“I believe that this program is instrumental to re-
covery. The recovery bible is a priceless tool.”
“I’ve always had a difficult time with the bible and
my addiction. The recovery bible puts everything in
its place for me.”
“I share my bible whenever I can and encourage
other ladies in the unit to complete the program. It
has marked the beginning of my new life in Christ
and recovery.”
None of this would be possible without the gener-
ous contributions of the many men and women
interested in seeing lives transformed. Because of
you, a husband is being reunited with their es-
tranged wife, children are getting their father back
and society is gaining productive citizens on fire for
Christ! One case of 16 Recovery Devotional Bibles
cost $216. If you would like to be a part of this
worthwhile outreach then please call or email us.
Thank you for partnering with us to reach those
that are often forgotten.

“Good News Jail and Prison Ministry chaplains and volunteers play a vital role in facilitating the well-
being and stability of persons inside of our facility. As a first line supervisor in the Monroe County Jail, I
am thankful that our chaplains afford both jail staff and prisoners countless prayers and pastoral care to
help endure the stress and uncertainty faced in the correctional environment."

“As I reflect on the last 6 years of participating on the Chaplain’s Support Team (CST), I think about how
blessed I have been for the opportunity to serve on the CST along side our Chaplains and the other CST
members: A couple of anonymous quotes come to mind: ‘Man’s greatest discovery is to discover the will
of God. Man’s greatest achievement is to do the will of God.’ ‘God does not choose people who are quali-
fied for His work, He does the choosing and when they are willing, He will qualify them.’ God equips each of us for
serving Him in some capacity. What are you doing?” ——- Terry Flesch
