    Tips for Auditioning

    1. READ THE PLAY!! Know the style of the play and select appropriate auditionmaterial. If there are specific guidelines listed for the specific play, KNOW THEM!!

    2. DRESS APPROPRIATELY!! Present yourself in the best possible manner.Directors make judgment about you the minute you walk into the room. Dont let thatjudgment be negative. This includes shoes dont wear flip flops or shoes you cant

walk in when you audition. And, make sure your hair is combed and out of your face!!

Dont walk in looking like you just crawled out of bed!!

    3. Behave in a professional manner. Be polite to everyone you meet and encounter. Younever know who will be making casting decisions. That includes the way you talk to

Stage Managers, Accompanists, Assistants, and Directors.

    4. Be prepared and on time!! Have everything required of you for the audition. TheStage Managers will NOT help you with making copies of your headshot/resume/

music/audition forms. Do your job and be prepared to demonstrate how professional

    you are.

    5. Have your sheet music prepared appropriately.

    4/4

Dont bring in a whole songbook or pages taped together like an accordion. Copythe song from the book and put it into a nicely-organized notebook that will sit on

    the piano easily.

Be sure your music is from a full score or songbook. Do not bring in music thatonly has chords or is from choral booksor is written for guitar!

Be sure your song is in the correct key. The Accompanist will not transpose onsight for you.

DO NOT PUT YOUR MUSIC IN PLASTIC SHEET PROTECTORS!! Make sure the copy of your music has ALL THE MUSIC on every sheet. Double

check to make sure the bottom line of music hasnt been cut off.

Make sure the title of the song is marked clearly somewhere on the first page ofyour music.

Mark your music clearly for the following: Intro, Vocal Begins, Cuts in the Song,Repeats, Song Ends.

Communicate with the Accompanist what tempo you want your song. They arentmind readers sing a little of the song for them.

    6. Be sure to slate clearly this includes your name and the title of the piece you will beperforming. Slate your piece beforeyou begin your audition.

    7. If you plan to use the chair in the room, SET IT UP BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!8. REHEARSE, REHEARSE, REHEARSE!! And, just when you think you have it,

REHEARSE SOME MORE!! Most performers kill their chances of getting cast

    because they arent prepared.

    9. Breathe! Remember we WANT you to succeed!! It makes casting decisions easierwhen you bring it and deliver what we need for our shows.

    10. BE FEARLESS!! OWN THE ROOM!!
