Junior Science The Virtual Physics Laboratory and Key Skills for Junior Science
Have you ever struggled to explain a difficult concept in physics? Have you wanted to do an experiment in class for which you did not have the equipment? You need the Virtual Physics Laboratory!
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the Institute of Physics (IoP) have
jointly sponsored the Virtual Physical Laboratory for use in schools in Ireland.
This software library serves to illustrate and animate some of the topics taught at
junior cert physics level. There are over 70 animations that can be used to
explain junior cert concepts. Other animations and virtual experiments can be
used for leaving cert physics.
We will also discuss how you can plan a topic to integrate the 6 key skills into
teaching science using electricity as an example.
Other digital resources that you will take home on the night will include a
complete
Student self-assessment booklet for junior cert science
HL and OL questions by topic,
Resources for Science Literacy and Numeracy
Junior Science Keyword Posters and booklet
Resources for electricity
Sample I Quizzes for Junior Cert and I Quiz templates to make your own

Physics Physics
Investigating Self-Assessment and the Virtual Physics Laboratory
Have you ever struggled to explain a difficult concept in physics? Have
you wanted to do an experiment in class for which you did not have the
equipment? The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the Institute of Physics (IoP)
have jointly sponsored the Virtual Physical Laboratory for use in schools in Ireland.
This software library serves to illustrate and animate some of the topics
taught in at leaving cert physics level. Other animations and virtual
experiments go beyond what is required at this level but can be used to
engage and stimulate your more able pupils.
The VPL contains over 250 animations that you can use with you class.
Also at this course we will discuss how to engage students with the
learning process to encourage them to become independent learners.
You will go home with a student self-assessment book for leaving cert
physics which includes a student self-assessment sheets for each topic,
plus practice exam questions for each topic.
