Offensive Posi>ons
Huddle
Cadence • Chicago, Denver, Dallas, SeaAle are normal calls.
• Miami is an audible (Hot call).
• Montreal/Toronto mean Freeze – no one moves.
• Indy – Fast Tempo
• City/Number, City/Number, Set – Hut
• The City called tells the team if it’s an audible.
• If a hot call, the number may signal the new play call.
Snap Count • 10’s Series: Plays are all called on one. • 20’s Series: Plays are all called on two. • 30’s and 40’s Series: Plays are all called on three. • Pass plays, Fly Sweep and Jet Sweep are all called on one.
• As approaching line, OL and QB should be giving reminders – MONDAY (on one) TUESDAY (on two) WEDNESDAY (on three)
• Count can always change at discre>on of the coach.

Perimeter Blocking • We must block what the defender is coached to do. Ex. A corner is taught to contain everything inside, therefore, we will work our leverage to his outside forcing him to widen or be blocked.
• Breakdown or shimmy with fast feet must occur with enough distance between blocker and defender – 3-‐5 yds. is usually enough.
ABCD’s of Stalk Blocking • Alignment: Tells the blocker what the defenders inten>ons are. If he is shaded outside, his job is to primarily force the ball carrier inside. Note also depth of defender to determine how quickly the blocker must break down.
• Bead/Breakdown – Take the correct angle of aAack toward the defender, keep shoulders square. If corner widens, you widen with him. Breakdown/shimmy with room to move with defenders reac>on. Keep eyes on his hips, not head.
ABCD’s cont. • Contact: While you shimmy feet with wide base slowly approach defender. Then punch with two hands upward and into defenders chest with open palms. Double upper-‐cut. Do not hold defender.
• Drive: With wide base and arms extended drive defender wherever he goes. Keep feet moving and head up.
QB Technique • From shotgun: Take one small step back and plant foot at angle perpendicular to where you are going to throw (Bubble, Slant or Go).
• Bubble and H-‐bubble do not require throwing with fingers on the laces. Prac>ce throwing without them.
• Target is chin-‐strap of receiver, ball on a line. • From under center, take quick 3 steps back and then plant foot for throw.
Offensive Line • Bubble Screen: – Step play-‐side and rip through nearest defender’s outside shoulder.
– Progress up-‐field to block in space. • Bubble Slant/Plus: – Step play-‐side working to REACH the outside shoulder of defender (without gerng downfield).
– If no threat is present, turn back to help.
H/Z Backs • H – Mo>on is at 70% speed. Stay at QB depth. When ball is
snapped, take a shallow but quick three step deepening curve with route to help get shoulders around. AWer ball is caught then GET OUTSIDE! If forced up inside, always break back outside again.
• Z – No mo>on, outside foot back in WR stance. Sprint three steps outside and then snap head and shoulders around to QB for lateral run and then to catch the ball. Cri>cal to stay at depth so you can con>nue path outside aWer catch. Do not get deeper or lose ground since you are already off the line of scrimmage.
Doubles Rt Bubble Slant
Bubble Slant • QB: Catch and one step drop and pivot to play-‐side – >ming is a quick throw. When OLB flies out to cover bubble, throw behind him to slant. If Y is covered or collisioned, tuck ball and release for run or scramble pass.
• Y: Outside foot back in stance. Three step wide slant. Angle outside like you are running a “GO” route. One third step plant and cut hard inside avoiding contact with LB. Find window at 6-‐8 yd. depth. Secure catch and get up field.
Trips Rt Bubble Slant
Trips Bubble Slant • QB: Same as Bubble slant but progression is now F to Y to Release.
• F: Straight Slant. Outside foot back, three steps straight up field, break into window 6-‐8yd where LB vacated. Avoid contact, catch and get up-‐field.
• Y: Wide Slant.
Doubles Rt H-‐Bubble Slant
Doubles Rt. H-‐Bubble Slant • QB: Progression is Z to Y to Release. • Z: Straight Slant. Outside foot back, three steps straight up field, break into window 6-‐8yd where LB vacated. Avoid contact, catch and get up-‐field.
• Y: Wide Slant
Trips Rt H-‐Bubble Slant
Trips Rt. H-‐Bubble Slant • QB: Progression is which is Z to F to Y to Release. • Z: Straight Slant. Outside foot back, ONE step straight up field, break into window 6-‐8yd where LB vacated. Avoid contact, catch and get up-‐field.
• F: Straight Slant. Outside foot back, THREE steps straight up field, break into window 6-‐8yd where LB vacated. Avoid contact, catch and get up-‐field.
• Y: Outside Slant.
Doubles Rt Bubble Go
Bubble Go • QB: Three step drop with a two hand pump fake to play-‐side keeping eyes on the corner, then hitch step up to make a deep over the shoulder throw to Y. If Y is capped (or a defender is in good coverage posi>on or over the top), then take your best Release (scramble).
• Y: Come off the line hard, then stuAer for three quick steps before reaching Corner. Take best release past corner avoiding all contact.
Trips Rt Bubble Go
Trips Bubble Go • QB: Same as Bubble Go, but progression is now three step
drop with pump fake and rhythm throw to F if he is not covered or collisioned. Then hitch up to to Y, then Release. Pre-‐snap check to see who is capped (defender over the top by alignment and depth – 7+yards).
• F: 5-‐step skinny post, avoid contact with OLB. Aim for point between safe>es if there are two. If one safety, stay wide on hash away from MOF (middle of field).
• Y: Come off the line hard, then stuAer for three quick steps before reaching Corner. Take best release past corner avoiding all contact.
Doubles Rt H-‐Bubble Go
H-‐Bubble Go • QB: Same as Trips Bubble Go, but progression is now Z, then Y, then
H, then Release. Keep eye on Safety while pump faking. • OL: BOB blocking adjustment – no help from H backside. • Z: 5-‐step skinny post, avoid contact with OLB. Aim for point
between safe>es if there are two. If one safety, stay wide on hash away from MOF (middle of field).
• Y: Come off the line hard, then stuAer for three quick steps before reaching Corner. Take best release past corner avoiding all contact.
• F: Seam route. Stay on the hash with speed. • H: Rush route op>on – if QB gets heat or nothing down field, ball
can come to you.
Trips Rt H-‐Bubble Go
Trips Rt H-‐Bubble Go • QB: Progression is Rhythm throw to Z, hitch to F, hitch to Y, then
Rush to H or Release. Pre-‐snap cap read important can help speed up progression. IF two safe>es, progress quickly to F then Y. IF one safety, progress from Z to F.
• OL: BOB blocking adjustment – no help from H backside. • Z: 5-‐step post. If 2 safe>es, run between them. If one safety, run to
open window on opposite hash of field. • F: Ver>cal Seam. Avoid contact with OLB. Stay on hash. If Safety is
over the top of you, maintain inside posi>on. • H: Rush route op>on – if QB gets heat or nothing down field, ball
can come to you.

Hole Numbering System
Even number calls are to the right and odd # calls are to the leW. The first number in the call represents the RB who will be running the ball. The Second Number in the call represents the hole the RB will run through. Example: I Right 26 Power tells the H (2) to run through the 6 hole. 8 and 9 holes are for the RB to stretch the play horizontally un>l the back finds the best window to cut up field for posi>ve yards.
Defensive Alignments
Defini>on of Covered for Zone Plays • Keep things as simple as possible for players. Define “Covered” as anyone defender lined up either head up or outside shaded. I’m referring to a 2 or 3 technique.
• Players must use a call to define who is involved in a Combo Block. Play Side Calls are Jack (Center/Guard) Queen (Guard/Tackle) and King (Tackle/TE) Backside calls are ACE (Center/Guard), DEUCE (Guard/Tackle) and Trey (Tackle/TE).
Inside Zone • OL Rules (GET A COMBO BLOCK FIRST): Covered – Reach Block Defenders outside
½ of man. Aim point at his outside arm-‐pit. Shuffle laterally and if you can overtake then you have reach blocked him. If you cannot overtake, run with him keeping him covered up. Uncovered – Reach to block nearest defenders inside ½ of man.(DRIVE COMBO TO LB LEVEL) If you can double with OL playside, then drive him to second level. If nearest OL disappears wide, go to LB level now. When driving double tem, If defender shows, nearest OL should see him and come off to pick him up.
• QB: MESH with H. Read unblocked End Man on Line of Scrimmage. If he can make a tackle on the H, pull ball and keep on run outside. This play is always a give unless he can make a tackle.
• RB: Open with playside foot toward QB – your responsible for gerng in correct posi>on to QB. Do not reach and take ball, be pa>ent and allow QB to place ball in belly. Clamp down on ball as you pass QB’s midline because it is a give. If QB pulls before you pass the midline carry out fake bounce route path around the line to the opposite side turning back to defense to hide the ball fake.

Outside Zone (OZ) • Use Toss Blocking Scheme rules. • Covered: Reach Block – Covered is defined s>ll as Head Up or Outside Shade. For
defenders lined up much wider, turn and run and work to rip through around – like gerng around the edge on a pass rush.
• Uncovered Guards – Skip Pull around to LB or first man who shows. • Same Reads for QB. • H moves up slightly in depth (Heels on QB’s toes) and may need to widen slightly
to straddle inside leg of Tackle. Mesh path is directly in front of QB. • QB stays square and reaches as far toward H as possible to ride the handoff (Mesh)
and shuffles laterally a step to allow >me to read end man on LOS Key. Again, always a give unless End can tackle the H.
• H path aWer taking ball is to stretch as wide as possible, then cut – gerng up-‐field North/South right away.
• Play-‐side Receivers stalk block, backside will have Bubble Screen or all Hitches RPO.

Drills Packet
Individual Drills • The best prac>ce for installing this package is to start with working
the skills separately. • QB – Catch the snap and throw to each other using steps like a
screen pass. Also prac>ce the Bubble Slant and Bubble Go throws from the snap – work >ming with receivers.
• WR – Stance/Starts. Prac>ce the lateral step and run staying parallel to the Line of Scrimmage. Work partner catches where WR turns shoulders inside to make catch while moving laterally. Can prac>ce this sta>onary first.
• Always emphasize tucking the ball in securely. I am not sa>sfied unless I actually see their eyes and head bob down to watch the ball get tucked in. Every single catch in prac>ce has to happen this way.
Stalk Block Drills • These drills can be broken down step by step – should all be executed at
full speed. • A – Alignment. Have WR come out of stance full speed in the proper angle
to break down in front of DB outside Number (for deep cover DB) • If DB is >ght -‐ corner in Cover 2 who is responsible for aAacking runs and
screens, then we must first step inside to protect, then work back outside. • B – Bead/Breakdown Have WR in good posi>on prac>ce mirroring DB as
he moves back and forth laterally. Mirror Drill. • C – Contact. Work hard hand punches to the chest. Try to shock the
defender and stop all momentum. • D –Drive. Fit up with defender and work drive. Drive him where he wants
to go, just maintain contact at all >mes. • Finally, put it all together at full speed.
Quarterbacks • QB’s together – Catch the snap and throw to each other using steps like a screen pass. Also prac>ce the Bubble Slant and Bubble Go throws from the snap. Make sure QB’s eyes go where they should on each play.
• QB Reads for Bubble Slant thrown to trips. Have one QB give a flat defender read while two others stand where routes will be open. On the snap, watch the flat defender read. Throw opposite of his movement. As a Coach I like to give the read movement like what we will see that week in the gameplan.
QB Reads – Bubble Slant
Wide Receivers/Running Backs • Stalk blocking Drill – Towel Drill. • Routes on Air – with QB’s • Perimeter Drill – adds defenders. • Full Team
Towel Drill
Towel Drill • Receivers line up against each other with a smaller area defined to work in. • Can set up groups of three and work everyone together to save >me. • On set-‐go, DB drops simula>ng pass defense. • When the towel is thrown, DB breaks up to grab towel. • Receiver must block DB for 5 seconds. If successful, DB has 5 pushups. If
unsuccessful, WR has 5 pushups. • Receiver must work correct ABCD technique aAacking outside # of defender.
Defender should never get outside of blocking receiver. • Coaching points – Break down or Shimmy must be at least 3 yds. away from DB.
Watch hands – can’t hold. Have to stay low and move feet to redirect to stay on block. Keep hands inside on defenders numbers. Work on gerng a hard punch to defenders chest. Then WR has to drive legs and keep punching if contact is lost. Have a wide base with legs – slightly outside shoulders. Toes pointed out slightly, weight on instep of feet. Short quick shuffles/steps.
Routes on Air
Routes on Air • QB’s should call cadence and throw all of your screen
routes you are planning on using in your game that week. • Receivers will run route and catch ball, tuck it in and score. • Full speed drill. Have someone snap to QB’s. • Coach can call out new routes. • Rotate from one line to the opposite line. If you have more
then 2 QB’s, have them rotate between snapping and throwing or set up two groups of this drill.
Perimeter Drill
Perimeter Drill • Used to work specific perimeter >ming of routes, throws and
blocks. Coach calls the play in a small huddle or signals to receivers when they are lined up.
• Have someone snapping the ball. • Live, full speed, and if necessary, include tackling to the ground. • WR must always get outside. Never allowed to cut back inside. • DB’s do not know the call. • Alternate screens with passes to keep DB’s honest. • Work one side at a >me. Have players ready to jump in and run the
next play on opposite side quickly.
Offensive Line • Stance and steps for Reach block. Work both direc>ons. • Stance and steps vs pad/defender – fit up. Have defender take a
single reac>on step on the snap to keep drill realis>c. • Stance, steps, fit up, drive and finish. Emphasize gerng hands
inside and feet/hips in posi>on to protect play-‐side gap. Finish on the whistle with a final explosive push on defender.
• Whole line vs fronts. (add in weekly blitz and stunts you will see). Call the defensive front and have all of the line working together to communicate who they have pre-‐snap. Full speed but doesn’t have to be live.
• Team – put it all together. They should be ready to hear the playcall and execute it without ques>on.
