Top left: Colin Ferrie of Rossland’s Black JackSki Club won his first medal of the CanadaWinter Games, skiing to gold in the 1.5 kmclassic sprint. “I’ve never really thought ofmyself as much of a sprinter, always more of adistance skier,” said the 21-year-old racer. “So Iwas definitely really relaxed going into the race,not expecting too much, and I think in the end,that kind of helped me. It’s an amazing feelingright now. It’s hard to describe. I’m over themoon really.” Ferrie competed in the 2011Canada Winter Games in Halifax and theopportunity to race at home in B.C. was aspecial honour. “I was hoping to get a chance torace at home and then to win gold here is justphenomenal.”
