U16 Boys

Hampshire Badminton Finals

Congratulations to the U16

boys badminton team who produced an

outstanding display at the Hampshire Schools

Badminton finals. After two 5:0 victories

against Swanmore and Courtmoor, we lost a

thrilling contest to Thornden, 3:2. Thornden

went on to win the final and kindly praised us

for providing their toughest competition on

the day.

Couch 25K

Congratulations to Louis W, Erin B and

Lily W (Y11) who successfully

completed a nine week Couch 2

5K course with Miss Brown in December

and celebrated by running with her at

the Winchester Park Run.

Hampshire Girls Cricket

Rachel K and Lottie H have been

earning exceptional praise from

Hampshire Cricket for their services as

coaches in organising and officiating

various junior cricket events as part of

the “Vipers” programme.

Hampshire Cricket

Rachel K has been selected as captain of her

Hampshire age group for the 3rd consecutive

season. She is a member of the Emerging Players

Programme and now has a bat sponsor. Here she

is learning how to make a bat!

English Schools Cross Country

Nathan L qualified for the U17 County Cross-County

team in 2020 a year young by placing 9th out 73 in

the County Championships in January. By qualifying

for the County team Nathan was then selected to

compete in the National English School's

Championships which took place in Liverpool in

March. This was the second consecutive year

Nathan had represented the County in cross-

country.

Silver Medallist – Scottish Open

Congratulations to Bryn J (Y9) who

competed at the Scottish Open &

National Diving Championship in

Edinburgh. He had a great competition

and came 10th on 3m, 6th in the 1m

and 2nd in the platform final.

Equestrian Club

Perins Equestrian Club members took

part in three flatwork sessions at

Northington Stud and Stables and also

enjoyed a polo session at the

Hampshire Polo Club in South Wonston.

Football – U16 Boys

District Champions

This year the U16 Boys football team won the

Eastleigh & Winchester District 'A' League. This

was the first 'A' league title the school had

won in 5 years, and the side was unbeaten

during the league campaign. Highlights of the

league run included wins over Kings (5:2),

Mountbatten (3:2) and Romsey (4:2). The

following squad was led superbly by Charlie

M: Harvey A, Kieran C, Sam F, Ben T, Joe C,

Joe F, George K, Max A, Jack T, Sam G, Archie

O, Callum D, Reuben S, Joe D, Phoenix C and

Reece S.

MOTD Can You Kick It

Joseph G has enjoyed an exciting year of football. In

October he made it through to the MOTD Can You

Kick it Trials.

Joseph has been playing for the Southampton Para

team and is a member of the talent development

pathway for the England Cerebral Palsy Team.

Hampshire Golf

Jenny M was appointed Alresford Golf

Club Junior Captain for 2020. She has

also represented Hampshire during the

year.

Team GB Gymnastics

Frankie W has been selected to

represent GB as part of the Junior

Women’s Team Gym team in next

April’s European Championships in

Copenhagen. She has trained

relentlessly during lockdown to

prepare!

Congratulations to India S (U14) and

Kate B(U15) who were selected for their

respective county hockey teams this

year.

Christian Q (Y10 and pictured) and Roman C, who

play for the Basingstoke Bisons Ice Hockey Team, were

both selected for England Age Group Ice Hockey

Teams this year.

Netball Nationals

Hampshire Round

An excellent team performance from the U16s who finished fourth over all, but finished the top state school in the tournament.

These girls have an exciting future of netball ahead of them and we are very excited to see how they all develop.

The year 10s who attended, now have the experience to help guide them next year, and we look forward to seeing what they can do.

Team Bath

Year 11 captain, Abi M, has been playing for the

Swan U19s South Regional team. In addition, she

has been selected for the Team Bath U17s

academy.

Surrey Storm

Year 10 player, Anya D, has played for the

Weston Park Blades U19s this season and has also

been selected for the Surrey Storm U17 West

Academy.

National Indoor Rowing Finals

Twelve Perins pupils attended the

National Indoor Rowing Finals held in

the Copper Box at the Olympic Park.

The camaraderie and commitment on

show was superb. Captain Abi N (Y11),

Owen B (Y9), Jack B (Y7) all achieved

top ten finishes.

2019-20 Highlights

National Champion

Year 9 pupil Owen B was age group

National Schools Indoor Rowing Champion

for the second consecutive year. Owen

led the field from the outset and took gold

with a commanding victory.

2019-20 Highlights

Regional Rowing

Abi N (Y11) and Florence N (Y10) were

both selected to represent the Wessex

Region (covering the 28 rowing clubs

of the south / south east) at the Inter-

Regional Championships. Unfortunately

the championships were cancelled.

Hampshire Cup Champions

U15 Boys Rugby

The Year 10 Boys won the Hampshire Schools

U15 Rugby Final in February with a 27-7 win

over Mountbatten. This feat has only been

achieved once before by a Perins team.

U14 Boys Rugby Orleans Park 7s

Champions

The U14 Boys Rugby team won the Orleans

Park 7s tournament, beating some very

successful and prestigious rugby schools

along the way. An outstanding

achievement.

As a XV aside team they completed a 3rd

season undefeated in Saturday fixtures.

U15 Hampshire Girls Rugby

Four of our successful U15 Girls Rugby

team were selected to represent the

Hampshire U15 squad. Well done Rosie

B, Florence N, Hope B and Daisy H.

U15 Hampshire Rugby

Seven of our U15 Boys Rugby team were selected to

represent Hampshire Rugby at U15 level. A huge

congratulations to them, and well deserved after a

London Irish

In 2018 and 2019, Owen B represented London

Irish in an International tournament held in

Lyon, France. He played against other

academy sides and represented both London

Irish and Perins exceptionally well.

2019-20 Highlights

KP Cup Victory

Saturday 7th December saw the culmination of

Saturday morning rugby fixtures with the annual KP

Cup tournament between Kings and Perins. Over two

rounds, nine rugby matches were played at Perins

School and Alresford RFC with over 300 students

contributing to a fantastic morning of rugby. Perins

came out on top with six victories overall, with

standout results from both the Boys U15 team and the

Girls U15 team. This meant that Perins retained the

cup they won last year!

Squash – South Region Finals

Our Key Stage 3 Squash team ventured to the

impressive surrounds of Milfield School for the South

Region Finals of the National Schools Squash

Championships. Every Perins players battled fiercely

throughout the day. We lost to Truro School 3-2,

Lancing College 3-2 and Millfield (featuring leading

players from India, Japan and England) 5-0. Despite

the losses we won the admiration of our opponents

and Harry F and Megan L produced some scintillating

play to defeat 4 of their 6 older opponents.

2019-20 Highlights

British Squash Championships

Congratulations, to Harry F who competed

in the British Squash Championships over

Christmas. Despite the event title Harry’s

competitors came from across the globe.

After matches against players from

Malaysia, Netherlands, Germany, Poland,

Australia and USA, Harry finished a very

commendable 28th.

Hampshire Squash Champion

Megan L won the Hampshire U15 title,

incredibly impressive given that she is an U13!

She secured a sponsorship deal with HEAD for

kit and equipment, and Hampshire County

Council’s, “Energise Me,” program is also

providing Megan with support. Megan is

currently number 4 in England at U15 level.

Synchronised Swimming

Congratulations to Charlie R (Y10, right)

who is one of 10 swimmers that have

been invited to train and compete with

the England Regional Synchronised

Swimming Youth Squad for 2020, a result

of endless our hours of hard work and

application.

England Volleyball

Josh H (Y10) represented England in the Under 17s

North European beach volleyball championships in

Sweden, competing against countries such as

Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

Gifted and Talented Trip

Ageas Bowl

Fifteen Year 8 students attended our

annual gifted and talented trip to the

Ageas Bowl, home of Hampshire

Cricket. The students experienced a

tour of the facilities followed by a

coaching session from Hampshire

Cricket staff.

2019-20 Highlights

South Africa Sports Tour 2019

89 pupils represented the school superbly on

the two week tour of South Africa this summer.

All teams performed admirably against strong

opposition in stunning settings. A diverse array of

excursions including surfing, safari and a visit to

the Apartheid Museum helped to produce

wonderful memories. The highlight for many

tourists proved to be the coaching work they

did with some extremely grateful primary school

children in a township on the outskirts of Cape

Town.

Treloars Trip

Students in Year 9 attended the

Treloars Disability Sports Day in

November where they participated in

sports such as Wheelchair Basketball,

Table Cricket, Boccia and Swimming.

This was a great opportunity for Perins

and Treloars students to interact and

compete against each other.

New Courts

Thanks to an incredibly generous,

anonymous donation we have been

able to repaint and re-format the

netball / tennis courts so that we now

have 4 full size and one junior netball

court.

Hampshire Golf Champion

Old boy Charlie Forster (2019 leaver), won the

U18 category of the Hampshire

Schools Golf Championships at Cams Hall Estate.

Charlie’s handicap is now 1 and he has been

selected for the England U18 regional training

squad, in addition to receiving an invitation to

play in the Junior Amateur Championships in

Spain.

Fulham FC First Team Squad

2018 leaver, George Wickens has

signed a professional contract with

Fulham FC and has trained with the first

team during lock down.

World Championship Gold

2017 leaver Kaitlin Lafferty was selected as the

youngest member of the senior World

Championship tumbling team for Tokyo in Nov

2019. Kaitlin placed 13th individually and was part

of the GB team which won gold, the first time a GB

women’s team has done this in 16 years!

BBC Sports Reporter

2011 leaver and former Perins’ netballer, Betty

Glover (red microphone) has been featuring

prominently in BBC sports coverage this year. Betty

frequently reads the sports news on the Sara Cox

Show and co-presents a podcast on BBC Sounds

called NetBaller. Betty was due to work for the

BBC at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

Sky Sports Presenter

A second 2011 leaver and Perins’

netball and rugby player, Ashleigh

Wilmot has also been progressing in the

world of sports presenting this year.

Ashleigh has been heavily involved in

the production and presenting of

Women’s rugby pieces for Sky Sports

this year.

World Beach Games

Former Perins pupil (2004 leaver) and

more recently, teacher, Nadine Bazan

played for Great Britain at the World

Beach Games in Qatar.

GB finished runners up and Nadine

returned with a silver medal.
