Sport is very popular in Great Britain. About 30 million people regularly take part in sport or exercise. There are a lot of sport programs on TV.

Britain is the birthplace of many popular sports such as football, rugby, golf, tennis, badminton

The most popular sports in Britain are: running, swimming, hunting, fishing, horse-racing, mountain climbing, boxing.

The most spectator sport is football. The football Association Cup Final held every year at Wembley Stadium in London.

Rugby football has existed in Britain since the 19th century. There are two versions of this fast ball game: rugby union and rugby league.

Such sporting occasions as the Cup Final, The Derby, the Boat Race are regarded as the event and watched on TV by millions of people.

Horse racing is a very popular sport in Britain. This sport is known as “the sport of kings”. Today some members of the royal family participate in certain annual race meetings.

Every year at the end of March a boat-race contest between Oxford and Cambridge Universities take place on the river Thames. It is very popular and attracts lots of people.

There is a Dangerous Sports Club at Oxford University. The members of the club love excitement and extreme.

Hiking, parachuting, mountaineering, wind-surfing are very popular among the young people.

It is cycling!
