MOCK ROCK 2011 In the classroom and in our sport, we, the StudentAthletes at the University of Michigan, try to be conquering heroes. Each year, Mock Rock gives us the opportunity to help change the unfortunate and real circumstances within our own community. With the money we raise, we are able to pass along our success to three very diverse, yet worthy organizations. We may not be able to combat poverty, autism, and illness on our own, but what we can do is provide monetary donations in order to contribute to the larger goals of StudentAthletes Leading Social Change (SALSC), Michigan Autism Partnership (MAP), and The Child and Family Life Program through C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, respectively. Last year’s event grossed $75,000+, and this year we strive to raise $100,000. But we need your help. Mock Rock lets you be a hero and help to take a small step forward in conquering adversity.

The StudentAthlete Advisory Council (SAAC) is a student run organization comprised of members representing each varsity and club varsity athletic team at the University of Michigan. SAAC engages with the University of Michigan Athletic Department, as well as the University of Michigan at large, including the general student population through all its governing bodies and organizations. SAAC is the voice of the 750+ StudentAthletes striving to create leadership opportunities, through organizing and participating in athletic events, campus activities, and community service.
History of the Show
About SAAC

Michigan SAAC | 3
Inaugurated in 1999, the StudentAthlete variety show known as Mock Rock was the way in which SAAC raised monetary contributions toward the Jeff Reese Scholarship Fund. After the tragic passing of this University of Michigan wrestler, his fellow StudentAthletes created the show in order to honor his life. Over the years, Mock Rock has dramatically grown into a viable and sustainable student run project and thus shifted its focus to giving back to the community, which so gratefully supports StudentAthletes.
C.S. Mott Children’s
Hospital
The Child and Family Life program at C.S.
Mott Children’s Hospital provides activities
and support for patients and their families
as they undergo the stresses of extended
hospital stay. This program provides art and
music therapy, medical play, and procedure
preparation in an effort to normalize the
hospital experience for the children. In
2009, Child and Family Life served over
9,000 Mott patients and their families. This
program relies heavily on the generous
gifts from the community, and our donation
would be yet another way the Michigan
StudentAthletes continue our support for
the brave patients at C.S. Mott Children’s
Hospital.

The Michigan Autism Partnership (MAP) is the authoritative wheretoturn resource in Michigan for young children with autism and the parents and professionals who care for them. Autism is a !"#"$%&'"()*$+!,-*.,$,)/+)0*)+1*(+1*2-"+-,3(,41*()+!"$*/+,(+-%1,*$+interaction, communication, and behavior. Therapy programs are the best known treatment in aiding the development for these young children, however they are extremely expensive. MAP provides scholarships to families in need for The P.LA.Y. Project, which is a playbased therapy used to increase socialization, improve language and decrease repetitive behavior. With our funds raised, we will be able to provide many scholarships to families in need.
StudentAthletes Leading Social Change (SALSC) catalyzes and connects studentathletes with a means to help change the world. This year, SALSC wishes to build a school in rural Ecuador, as education is considered one of the best tools to combat poverty. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to completing this goal. In addition, three to four Michigan StudentAthletes will have the privilege of traveling to Ecuador to help build this school and see 45-)60*(!+)0"+,'&*1)+%25+!%(*),%(+0*-+%(+)0"+1%''2(,)/7++
