Grand Knight’s Column

From your Grand Knight: Here we are with the end of 2016 just a few days ago, and the beginning of 2017 this last Sunday. I believe that as I write this article it is only right to acknowledge all of those that have made this last year a success. I am not going to try and mention the names of all those that worked, volunteered, or chaired various events as I know I will miss someone. Thanks to all of you from me and all the members and others who have benefited from your time and effort. This New Year is going to be more of the same and with a greater effort to enhance some of our current events and programs. Our family night just a month back was an unbelievable success and this is one area that I want to see continue and evolve. It is the future of our organization to promote the family and the future members of this great organization. This just an example of what is ahead for all of us. However, I would be remiss if I did not recognize another group who is busy also promoting the Knights of Columbus and that is our “Women’s Auxiliary Group” which to the best of my knowledge has been around doing their great charitable work for the last two decades. I have a feeling that many of our members don’t even know they exist and I am asking each and every Knight to ask their spouse if they know of them, and if they would want to

Chaplain’s Column Brother Knights and Families,

I am writing this column at the deadline. I wish all of you a Blessed New Year of 2017. I hope to see many of you at the January 27th celebration of the Rosary, Benediction and Seafood Buffet. I will try not to have any “surprises”!! Please save this prayer and “recipe” to use during the year.

A Prayer for the New Year

O God of new beginnings and wonderful surprises, thank You for the gift of a new year. May it be a time of grace for me, a time to grow in faith and love, a time to renew my commitment to following Your Son, Jesus. May it be a year of blessing for me, a time to cherish my family and friends, a time to renew my efforts at work, a time to embrace my faith more fully. Walk with me, please, in every day, and every hour of this new year, that the light of Christ might shine through me, in spite of my weaknesses and failings. Above all may I remember this year that I am a pilgrim on the sacred path to You. Amen

Recipe for a Happy New Year Take twelve whole months, clean them thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy, make them just as fresh and clean as possible. Now cut each month into twenty-eight, thirty, or thirty-one different parts, but don’t make up the whole batch at once. Prepare it one day at a time out of these ingredients. Mix well into each day one part of faith, one part of patience, one part of courage, and one part of work. Add to each day one part of hope, faithfulness, generosity, and kindness. Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation and one good deed. Season the whole with a dash of good spirits, a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play, and a cupful of good humor. Pour all of this into a vessel of love. Cook thoroughly over radiant joy, garnish with a smile, and serve with quietness, unselfishness, and cheerfulness. You’re bound to have a happy new year. Fr. Dick

know more about this wonderful and hardworking women’s group, and how to get involved. We are an organization that is about the Catholic Family and what better way for both you as a Knight and your spouse to do something together. This group meets at the same time and location as the 3rd Degree membership does, but have their own agenda, social events, and charity fund raising events. I am sure this group will welcome with loving and open arms all those who would like to join. You can contact me at [email protected] for more info along with Karen Jeske, Beth Tenpas, and Jackie Goettl. You will be pleasantly surprised with all the organizations they donate to each and every year. Lastly, remember those who have left us this last year, and love and cherish your loved ones who are still with us. Take the time to say you Love each other and stop and smell the flowers as you travel the many roads we travel in the next year.

In Christ’s Name, GK Lawrence (Larry) Lenhardt

Fourth Degree News From Your Faithful Navigator

Sir Knights and Ladies, Here we are at the start of a new year - 2017! If you are one who makes resolutions for the new year, remember to include both physical and spiritual resolutions to help keep a balance in your life. January is a tough time of the year. The ‘hype’ from the Holidays is wearing off and we just had the ‘official’ start of our long winter season. But we can use the warm and peace of the Christmas season and the fact that the days are getting longer to keep our spirits up. The month of January is dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus, which is celebrated on January 3. The first nine days of January fall during the liturgical season known as Christmas which is represented by the liturgical color white. The remaining days of January are the beginning of Ordinary Time. The liturgical color changes to green — a symbol of the hope which is much needed as we start a new year. We have two key events that I hope you have marked on your calendar. Our Annual 4th Degree Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Sunday, March 12th, 2017 at the Sheboygan KC Hall. Then we have the Eastern District 4th Degree Exemplification that is scheduled for Saturday, April 1st, 2017 in Green Bay. We are continuing to recruit new candidates for this event – if you know of any 3rd Degree members that may be interested in advancing to the 4th Degree, please contact myself or any of the other 4th Degree officers. Our first Assembly meeting for this new calendar year is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Sheboygan Knights of Columbus Hall in Sheboygan. We will start this first meeting of the New Year with Mass at 5:30PM followed by a social at 6:30PM and the dinner/meeting at 7:15PM. From Lady Sue and myself, we wish all of you a very healthy and Happy New Year! Yours in Faith, Faithful Navigator John Zalewski Monsignor Philipp Dreis Assembly #1204

Father Matthew Widder, Holy Name of Jesus Parish lead a blessing overthe newly installed machine & members of the medical staff. Father stressed the important role Anchor ofHope has in the community. He said “Anchor of Hope represents the good in the world and how precious ev-ery life is.”The initiative to raise funds for Sheboygan County’s first pregnancy center began over three years ago. Thanks to the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council who provided a matching grant for ½ the cost of the ma-chine, the drive raised enough money to purchase a new ultrasound machine for The Crossing PregnancyCenter in Manitowoc as well as one for Sheboygan.Anchor of Hope opened their doors to clients a little over a year ago. The ultra sound machine was installedlast month. Board president Gary Hughes stated “ We are now a medically certified pro-life center. Seton The students at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School were very busy during the month of December! Here are a few of the great activities they accomplished: Pre-K students heard the Nativity story and then used felt character pieces to retell it. They also used Nativity stickers to create their own stable scene and then were able to choose a few stickers of other types of animals who might have come to worship Baby Jesus…lots of dinosaurs visited the stable! The children had some Christmas fun as they created their own Christmas tree with lots of bright, shiny decorations…think GLITTER! Kindergarten students prepared their hearts for Jesus during the special time of Advent. They read the story of “The Grinch” and discovered how his heart was too small for Jesus but then it grew to let love in. They spread Christmas joy to others by creating and sending Christmas cards to our brave military serving oversees. They had some Christmas fun when they created their very own gingerbread houses…lots of FROSTING and CANDY! 1st Grade students learned about different winter celebrations like Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Christmas. They made their own Advent wreaths and talked about how Jesus is our Light. The students “dove” into learning all about fish in their science unit.

Campus Corner

Christ Child Academy

Christ Child Academy had their annual Christmas concert on December 16, under the direction of our very talented, Mrs. Annie Kincaid. Grades K-8 put on a beautifully, grace filled performance to a packed IC church. What a wonderful way to get into the spirit of Christmas! Students also enjoyed the annual spaghetti lunch on the last day of school before Christmas break. Volunteers prepared and served a delicious lunch of spaghetti, garlic bread, and dessert to our entire CCA family. After lunch we were treated to the talented vocal stylings of the South High Singers, and even got to join in on many of our favorite classic carols. CCA Bingo will hold its next event on Saturday, December 31st. Come and enjoy New Year’s Eve with Bingo, raffles, and a free hors d’oeuvre buffet in the Staskunas Activity Center. Doors open at 4:30, with Bingo starting at 6:00. SPC First Friday Fish Fry will be held January 6, from 4:30-7:00, in Van Treeck Hall. Our CCA 8th graders provide the delicious desserts, as usual. Proceeds help the 8th graders with their fundraising for the class trip to Chicago each year. The date and location have been set for CCA’s annual event: Winter Extravaganza! Plan to join us on February 25, 2017, at “Village at 170” (formerly Rangeline), for a night of fun, food, music, raffles, and live and silent auctions. All proceeds benefit the school. CCA will hold its annual Spelling Bee for all grades on Friday, January 6th, 2017. Middle School winner will move on to compete at the citywide level. Good luck to all our students! School resumes on Tuesday, January 3rd, with school mass celebrated at 8:30. It will be just a few short weeks and we will be wrapping up Quarter 2! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and thanks to all for your continued

2nd Grade students had an extra special month because they made their First Reconciliation! It was also extra special because they performed the annual Nativity play for the school families. They read various stories about gingerbread people, “Gingerbread Baby”, “Gingerbread Ninja”, Gingerbread Boy”, etc. and then compared/contrasted them. 5th Grade students enjoyed a “Rockin’ Science” unit on – rocks! They also explored earthquakes and volcanoes with the rock unit. They have begun “Football Math” and they also created movie trailers for their books they finished reading. The Middle School students worked on a variety of topics in their classes: Math: 6th Grade – fractions, 7th Grade – inequalities, 8th Grade – linear equations Science: 6th – crayfish/worm dissection, 7th – human body, 8th – climate change English: all grades wrote a personal narrative Religion: all grades studied the Beatitudes Gym – Grades K- 2: the students worked on balance and awareness while traveling in open spaces. They celebrated Christmas by playing fun winter games! Grades 3-8: the students had an introduction to the skills of hockey. They learned how to properly control the stick and to efficiently pass, shoot, and dribble.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School has much to be thankful for! We are very blessed. Alice Oberbroeckling

Medjugorje Message

January 2, 2016 Apparition - monthly message on the day for nonbelievers through Mirjana: “Dear children, My Son was the source of love and light when He spoke on earth to the people of all peoples. My apostles, follow His light. This is not easy. You must be little. You must make yourselves smaller than others; with the help of faith to be filled with His love. Not a single person on earth can experience a miraculous experience without faith. I am with you. I am making myself known to you by these comings, by these words; I desire to witness to you my love and motherly care. My children, do not waste time posing questions to which you never receive an answer. At the end of your journey on earth, the Heavenly Father will give them to you. Always know that God knows everything; God sees, God loves. My most beloved Son illuminates lives, dispels darkness; and my motherly love which carries me to you is inexpressible, mysterious but real. I am expressing my feelings to you: love, understanding and motherly benevolence. Of you, my apostles, I am asking for your roses of prayer which need to be acts of love. To my motherly heart these are the dearest prayers. I offer these to my Son Who was born for your sake. He looks at you and hears you. We are always close to you. This is the love which calls, unites, converts, encourages and fulfills. Therefore, my apostles, always love one another and above all, love my Son. This is the only way to salvation, to eternal life. This is my dearest prayer which fills my heart with the most beautiful scent of roses. Pray, always pray for your shepherds that they may have the strength to be the light of my Son. Thank you.”
