Dear Colleagues and Friends,Following the success of the last Symposium in 2014, this year’s Symposium will continue to investigate on what is new in thoracic oncology, and the chosen neoplasm is the mesothelioma. Between the primary pleural neoplasm, meso-thelioma is the most frequent, and heralds a dismal survival. Literature is full of papers reporting treatment for malignant pleural mesothelioma, and most patients are treated with “curative” intent using pleurectomy, pleuropneumec-tomy or with simple talc pleurodesis as a palliative surgery. Although there are very many clinical reports of surgical removal of mesothelioma, there is a great confusiononhoweffectiveitsremovalinobtainingcure, andwhatarethelimitsbeyondwhichsurgeryoffersnofurtherbenefittotheseunfortunatepatients. The open questions are numerous, and we hope to answer to some of them. As in the last year Professor Tom Treasure of the University College of London joined usasaScientificAdvisor.Oneofthemainaimsofthesymposiumistolinksciencewith clinical practice in an informal and interactive atmosphere. The symposium is intended to bridge across special interests: oncology, surgery, respiratory medi-cine, pathology and health care analysts. It is for everyone: surgeons, physicians, trainees, nurses and medical students. A poster session in thoracic oncology has been again organised to give an opportunity for surgeons in training and medical students to present their studies. As you can see there is a ‘total immersion’ aca-demic program, followed by networking and drinks reception and evening. You can also take the advantage to visit Sicily, one of the pearls of Mediterranean Sea. Sicily is a fascinating isle full of history, beauty and vitality.

Welcome To Sicily
