What made a difference?Private Sector Participation (PSP)

Thesecontracts are difficult to negotiate andhas clear performance target for theservices to be delivered to the public.The preparatory work has started andthe construction work will begin in nextsix months at the end of the pre workperiod.

What is special about this project?It is one of the first projects that dealswith source to tap solution and the

redressal system with billing andcollection.The project is a first of its kind with theMunicipal Corporation having 10 percent equity stake in the Spy formed withSPML Infra. The main focus is to developa modern water supply system for aworld class service.

Which was the project thatcatapulted the company into the bigleague?The Bhiwandi Water Supply Project is alandmark project for SPML. It caters tothe water requirement of over a millionpeople of Bhiwandi, an importantsatellite city of Mumbai, and providesthem with the infrastructure to receiveclean drinking water from source to tap.The project envisages the following:~ Development of source in theriver Tansa and its tributaries andconstruction of KT weirs and two minordams to cater to the needs of the city forthe next 30 years.~ Development of a new water treatmentplant including pumping stations, rawwater rising mains and the reservoirs.~ Development and O&M of completewater distribution system to cater to theneed of 24X7 water supply to the entirecity. .-- \ . - , :"_ _.".

The work on this importantproject is expected to begin in the thirdquarter of 2011.

What will be the important featuresof this project?SPML will be responsible for thefollowing key activities in this project:• Construction of a new parallelwater DI pipeline from Iaikwadi Damto Master Balancing Reservoir atNakshatrawadi.• Construction, operation andmaintenance of new head worksand approach bridge, new pumpingmachinery and electrical installation,new Master Balancing Reservoir/Elevated Service Reservoir

• Construct and rehabilitate thetransmission mains (Harsool scheme),trunk mains and feeder mains

• Rehabilitating the existing distributionand transmission water supply system ofAurangabad city

• Rehabilitation, operation andmaintenance of existing head worksand approach road and bridge, existingwater treatment plant and recirculationsump, existing pumping machinery andelectrical installations

• Undertaking metering and increasingwater supply coverage area to cover theentire _city

• Rehabilitation of existing water assets;water treatment plants, master balancingreservoir, elevated service reservoirs etc

• Development of computerised billingand collection systems.

• To supply potable water to theresidents as per Central Public Healthand Environmental EngineeringOrganisation (CPHEEO) norms -

• To operate and maintain thefacilities (including the transmissionand distribution system, meters andcomputerised system) in accordance withthe terms of agreement• Extend water supply coverage areawithin the city limits, as and whenrequested and required among others.

What is its status?We are expecting LOI/LOA by nextmonth, after which the proj ect work willcommence. CST
