Mission Statement To create extraordinary, experiential journeys that engage all the

senses in a deep and spiritual manner. To offer an elegant and

refined cultural immersion with elements of spirituality, wellness,

adventure and sensuality, all combined in a luxury trip of high value.

To craft a transformative and enlightening experience. To ignite the

inner seeker and adventurer within each guest.

Chandni is the friend who is also the guide to her homeland, the

messenger who is present to overcome cultural and language

barriers so that space is created for a deeper and richer

understanding of India. Chandni

When I moved to the West fifteen years ago, I spoke endlessly about my beautiful homeland to my new friends and realized how much I m i s s ed i t . My f r i e nd s re sponded w i t h g re a t interest and a deep desire to exper i ence I nd i a a t a personal level. This grew in me a desire to be the one to s h a re t he beau t y and magnificence of India with them. “ACARA Awakening” was born.

Page 4: Spiritual Explorations of South India

I won’t take you on a tour of superficiality

I won’t take you on a trip you’ll someday forget

This journey is for those who want to resound with

India, to tap into her deep springs of knowledge

Enlightenment and truth

To bathe in her beauty and emerge anew

Taking a sliver of her and holding it in your hand.

Each place you go you’ll take India with you.

This is India, my homeland.

Page 5: Spiritual Explorations of South India

IIn a country that has 1.2 billion people and as many

Gods and Gurus, spirituality is omnipresent and infused

in the culture and the hearts of the people. You can feel

this deeply spiritual nature of India as you walk down

the bustling streets, as you mingle with people in their

homes, as you stand in front of the sunset at the

beaches, and as you watch temple elephants swing along

the crowded temple streets.

The Dream

T he Dream

Page 13: Spiritual Explorations of South India

There should be somewhere upon earth a place that no nation could claim as its sole property, a place where all human beings of goodwill, sincere in their aspiration, could live freely as citizens of the world, obeying one single authority, that of the supreme Truth; a place of peace, concord, harmony, where all the fighting instincts of man would be used exclusively to conquer the causes of his suffering and misery, to surmount his weakness and ignorance, to triumph over his limitations and incapacities; a place where the needs of the spirit and the care for progress would get precedence over the satisfaction of desires and passions, the seeking for pleasures and material enjoyments.

In this place, children would be able to grow and develop integrally without losing contact with their soul. Education would be given, not with a view to passing examinations and getting certificates and posts, but for enriching the existing faculties and bringing forth new ones. In this place titles and positions would be supplanted by opportunities to serve and organize. The needs of the body will be provided for equally in the case of each and everyone. In the general organisation intellectual, moral and spiritual superiority will find expression not in the enhancement of the pleasures and powers of life but in the increase of duties and responsibilities.

Artistic beauty in all forms, painting, sculpture, music, literature, will be available equally to all, the opportunity to share in the joys they bring being limited solely by each one's capacities and not by social or financial position.

For in this ideal place money would be no more the sovereign lord. Individual merit will have a greater importance than the value due to material wealth and social position. Work would not be there as the means of gaining one's livelihood, it would be the means whereby to express oneself, develop one's capacities and possibilities, while doing at the same time service to the whole group, which on its side would provide for each one's subsistence and for the field of his work.

In brief, it would be a place where the relations among human beings, usually based almost exclusively upon competition and strife, would be replaced by relations of emulation for doing better, for collaboration, relations of real brotherhood. - by The Mother

Houseboats called 'Kettuvallams' are a must have experience for every traveler to Kerala.

Kettuvallam literally means "bundle" or "package" boat (Kettu means tied with ropes, and

vallam means boat. A house boat is about 60 to 70 feet in length and has a width of around

15 feet in the middle. The boat is made of wooden planks joined together using coconut

fiber ropes. The roof covering is made of bamboo poles and palm leaves. The outside of the

boat is coated with cashew nut oil, which acts as a protective coating. During the time

when road and rail transportation was expensive or unavailable, traders used Kettuvallams

as a form of transportation in the inland waterways. These boatmen were also famous for

the folk songs they sang while rowing the boat and for their style of cooking which they

developed for the conditions inside the boat.

The new generation houseboats are renovated versions of the original Kettuvallams. These

house boat have all the comforts of a hotel with well-furnished bedrooms, modern hygienic

toilets, cosy living rooms, dining areas, beautiful kitchen and in some cases even a balcony

for angling.

The resort is a reconstruction of a nearly 200 year old traditional ‘Illom’

house, and follows the ‘Nalukettu’ design – featuring an open roof

courtyard within the basic structure.

Heavily influenced by 'Thachu Shastra', a traditional principle of

architecture, the resort is an exotic concoction of ethnic design and

modern day comforts.

The accommodation at Coconut Lagoon consists of individual cottages

called tharavads, the traditional wooden houses of Kerala....where life goes

by at a leisurely pace.

Two Week Wellness Retreat

uthentic Ayurvedic Healing & RejuvenationExperience

AThe Ayurveda Wellness Experience will aim at nurturing

and pampering guests while exposing them to a way of life that

closely connects body, mind, spirit and consciousness. Ayurveda is

perhaps the oldest existing body of knowledge on the healing

process in the world today. Ayurveda aims to create a balance of

the elements of earth, fire, water, air and space at the individual

and cosmic level so that physical, mental, spiritual, social and

environmental well being is achieved.

Page 32: Spiritual Explorations of South India

Nestled in the lap of the Annamalai mountains in the Western Ghats of South India, this healing village, with a vision of “Authentic Ayurveda for Universal Wellbeing”, follows the principles of an ideal Ayurveda center as prescribed by the classical Ayurveda texts, that cares for your well being and the permanence of your well being.

Page 33: Spiritual Explorations of South India

Created with a strong grounding of traditional Indian knowledge systems such as Vasthu Shastra- the Indian architectural science, this healing village is traditional Ayurveda for the modern world. There is a specific plan for healing by working in close association with nature, in the form of the mud-block construction, solar lighting, solar heating, windmill energy and cooking with biomass as fuel. From the design of the layout, the colours used in the treatment rooms, the positioning of the treatment table, the treatment table itself, the herbs and oils used, the way the treatments are given, conscious efforts are made to not compromise or tamper with the core values or principles of Ayurveda.

A Typical Day

Treatments include Panchakarma ( Vamana, Virechana, Kashaya vasti, Taila Vasti, Nasya), Abhyanga, Shirodhara, Pizhichil, Navarkizhi, Shirovasti, Shirolepa, Takradhara, Ela Kizhi, Podi Kizhi, Ksheera Kizhi, and other treatments deemed appropriate based on the need of the person.

During the treatment period, rest is recommended strongly. The more the rest, the better the healing. Food is similarly restricted to a vegetarian diet so as to not stress the digestive system or interfere with the healing process.

It is ideal when the person is able to achieve a reasonable shift in diet and lifestyle when he/she goes back home, as the benefits continue to happen in the months that follow.
