spiritual communion prayer
TRANSCRIPT
FEBRUARY 21, 2021 † FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
Spiritual
Communion Prayer
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my
soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from
You. Amen.

FROM OUR PASTOR
Join me in sending prayers and good wishes to Father Jey as he concludes his ministry here and begins his ministry at St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville; St. Anthony Catholic Church, Morris; Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Millhousen. We have enjoyed his company and presence!
Thank you for the kind words of understanding about the new Mass schedules. While our weekend Masses remain the same, there will be just one Mass each day during the week. At St. Martin of Tours Masses will be at 8:15 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and at Ss. Francis and Clare of Assisi Masses will be at 8:00 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Confessions will remain the same—Saturdays 8:30 am to 10:00 am at Ss. Francis and Clare of Assisi and 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm at St. Martin of Tours.
A few have asked if we might be able to have our 6:30 am (Ss. Francis and Clare of Assisi) or a 6:00 pm (both parishes). I’m open to have a “Summer Schedule” during the months of June and July when parish life is not so hectic and that we might move Mass times around temporarily. If you would like to have a Summer Schedule with an early morning or evening Mass, let me know and we’ll explore our options! A public thank you to our deacons, Deacon Ron Pirau, Deacon Tim Harte and Deacon Marc Kellams. They have all offered to help me in any way and I am so appreciative of their assistance.
At this writing I haven’t heard of any help coming our way on the weekends, but I do know there are plans for a “permanent” solution in the Summer. Pray for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life!
This might also be a good time to thank those of you who have been attending Mass at both of our parish-es, from both parishes! It is a joy for me when I see St. Martin of Tours parishioners at Ss. Francis and Clare of Assisi, and Ss. Francis and Clare of Assisi parishion-ers at St. Martin of Tours.
Thanks to Emily Ketzner, Monica Robinson and Deacon Tim Harte for putting on the High School Retreat for our parishes, held at St. Martin of Tours. It was a success!
Pray, Fast, Give Alms.
Dear Parish Family & Friends,
Peace and all good, Fr. Steve Giannini

SAINTS FRANCIS AND CLARE OF ASSISI SCHOOL NOW ENROLLING
WHY ENROLL IN OUR SCHOOL? ª Daily exposure to the Catholic faith builds a strong religious and moral foundation. ª We offer a high-quality education that is academically challenging. Most of our graduates have gone on
to high school as leaders and successful students. ª We are a church parish and school for the family. Families feel they have an easier time of developing a
sense of community with their fellow parishioners. ª We have small class sizes. Our maximum size is 25. ª Teachers who have a passion for working in a Catholic school environment where they can openly teach
their faith. ª Staff, students, and parents build lifelong relationships. ª A safe and secure building with current and advanced technology. ª We offer tuition assistance to qualified families and our rates remain the same as last year. ª The longer a student remains in our school, the more successful they become academically, socially, and
emotionally.

FASTING & ABSTINENCE
Days of Fasting and Abstinence Friday, April 2
Days of Abstinence Fridays, February 26 & March 5, 12, 19, 26
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of FASTING and ABSTINENCE for Catholics. In addition, Fr idays dur ing Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal.
Two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal. The norms concerning ABSTINENCE from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. If possible, the FAST on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.
Easter Food Blessing
Easter food will be blessed on Saturday, April 3 at 1:00pm.
Bring your edible Easter fare for the blessing.

We old people are all a little fragile. Some, however, are particularly weak, many are alone, and stricken by illness. Some depend on the indispensable care and attention of others. Are we going to take a step back? Abandon them to their fate? - Pope Francis, March 4, 2015

SONGS FOR MASS
Lord, Who throughout These Forty Days Lord, who throughout these forty days, for us did fast and pray, teach us to overcome our sins, and close by you to stay. As you with Satan did contend and did the vict’ry win, O give us strength in you to fight, in you to conquer sin. As you did hunger and did thirst, so teach us gracious Lord, to die to self, and only live by your most holy word. And through these days of penitence, and through your Passion tide, For evermore, in life and death, O Lord, with us abide. Abide with us that , when this life of suffering is past, an Easter of unending joy we may attain at last!
The Cross of Jesus
Come, O God, renew your people, We who long to see your face. Strengthen hearts that have grown feeble; Fill our lives with truth and grace. Only you can win our freedom; Only you can bring us peace. Only in the cross of Jesus will the captives find release. Deep within create a new heart; Melt away the winter chill. Help us now to make a new start; Help us now to know your will. Washed in waters of forgiveness, cleansed in waters of new birth, Lead us to the cross of Jesus, Bringing life to all the earth. In the darkness that surrounds us we have lost you from our sight. Even though your love has found us, We embrace the powers of night. Scatter now our deepest darkness; Guide our hearts into the light. Join us to the cross of Jesus. Help us set our living right. Call us forth to walk in justice; Rescue us from sin and grave. Through the power of your Spirit, breathe in us the breath that saves. Strengthen us in our communion, One in Word and cup and bread. Here within the cross of Jesus all who hunger will be fed.
Jerusalem, My Destiny Refrain: I have fixed my eyes on your hills, Jerusalem, my destiny! Though I cannot see the end for me, I cannot turn away. We have set our hearts for the way: this journey is our destiny. Let no one walk alone. The journey makes us one. Other spirits, lesser gods, have courted me with lies. Here among you I have found a truth which bids me rise. (refrain) See, I leave the past behind; a new land calls to me. Here among you now I find a glimpse of what might be. (refrain) In my thirst, you let me drink the waters of your life. Here among you I have met the savior, Jesus Christ. (refrain)
Draw Near Refrain: Draw near, draw near! Take the Body of your Lord. Draw near, draw near! Drink the Blood for you outpoured.
Draw near and take the body of the Lord, and drink with faith the Blood for you outpoured. Saved by Christ’s Body and his holy Blood, with souls refreshed we give our thanks to God. (refrain) Christ, our Redeemer, God’s eternal Son, has by his cross and blood the vict’ry won. He spent his life for greatest and for least. Praise Christ, the Paschal Victim, Christ the Priest. (refrain) Let us approach with faithful hearts sincere and claim the promise of salvation here. Christ rules our hearts , and all his saints defends; he gives be-lievers life that never ends. (refrain) With heav’nly bread Christ makes the hungry whole; his living water fills the thirsting soul. Alpha Omega unto whom shall bow all nations of the earth, be with us now. (refrain)
