Welcome to the Spencer Group Brand Guidelines, this document will show you the correct steps needed to apply our brand correctly. It will also help show our thought process behind the brand and the direction we are heading as a group.

Our goal is to display our multi-disciplinary company behind one brand that unites all of our disciplines.

The guidelines start with our company values and then lead onto how you should use and place our logo and emblem correctly. This is followed by our company font and a ‘what not to do’ section. All of these section are important in understanding the brand we have created.

These guidelines must be followed to ensure our brand is consistent wherever it appears.

2012 - 2014

The past 25 years has seen Spencer change significantly from humble beginnings to one of the biggest privately owned engineering businesses in the UK.

Our original logo of QT Wellington Heavy has been a constant throughout the history of our logos, with straplines being added and changed to best suit our ever evolving business.

The Past 25 Years

Page 6: Spencer Group Brand Guidelines

6

Our new logo combines our heritage over the last 25 years while encompassing our ambition and the strides we are making towards the next 25.

The classic ‘SPENCER’ has been retained but updated using a similar, more contemporary, unique to Spencer, font.

Our emblem helps our brand stand out, it gives us a second identity with an instantly recognisable symbol.

British Engineering is our new strapline and is the epitomy of Spencer Group. It is something we are very proud of, are keen to promote and it is an integral part of our company.

The Next 25 Years

External Use

There will be times when a client or sub-contractor will want to use our logo for dual branding or similar. For these instances, just provide them with the logo not the emblem.

Using the Logo

Where possible, our logo should sit in the top-left corner of a document. Failing that, it should sit in the bottom right.

Numerous templates have been created to keep consistency throughout our brand so you do not have to create your documents from scratch, see page 26 for a list of these and how to download them. If you require a template creating, please contact the Business Development team.

If you require a copy of our logo, please see page 25 for information on how to download it.

Logo to be positioned in the top left for single pages, letterheads or title pages

Logo to be positioned in the bottom right on all but the first page of documents that span more than the first title page

There will be times when a client or sub-contractor will want to use our logo for dual branding or something similar. For these instances, we just provide them with the logo not the emblem.

Using the Emblem

If our logo sits in the bottom-right, the emblem must sit in the header bar in the top-left. Note, this is only applicable on the first page of a document. Please contact the Business Development team for advice on any other scenarios.

Numerous templates have been created to keep consistency throughout our brand and so you do not have to create your documents from scratch, see page 26 for a list of these and how to download them. If you require a template creating, please contact the Business Development team.

If you require a copy of our emblem, please see page 25 for information on how to download it.

skype: thespencergroup IntroductionThis knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) matrix has been designed to support the commercial management community within our business by defining the competence elements needed for effective commercial management across three domains: technical, behavioural and contextual.

The technical competence domain contains the functional commercial management competence elements. The behavioural competence domain contains the personal commercial management elements, covering attitudes and skills. The contextual competence domain contains the organisation competence elements. The scope of contextual competences includes elements relating to the role of commercial management at Spencer and the interrelationship between commercial management and our business functions and administration.

This KSA matrix defines the work of commercial personnel and allows for the identification and classification of the different competence elements needed for effective commercial management by our commercial personnel. It sets out the 30 technical, nine behavioural and eight contextual competence elements required of an effective member of the commercial function.

Appointing a MentorThis KSA matrix is available to all employees, with the appointment of a mentor being essential to ensure that development objectives are being met and approved in a timely manner. Should you require assistance in appointing a mentor, please contact the Training department who will facilitate this process. It is advisable for you to have a suitable mentor in mind prior to contacting the Training department.

BenefitsSignificant benefits can be derived from utilising this competence development framework, such as:

1. It ensures a common understanding of the competencies required of commercial personnel.2. It enables you to assess your competence levels against a framework aligned with an agreed

standard.3. It helps you identify areas for development and judge your readiness for career progression.4. It gives us the opportunity to accurately assess the competence of all commercial personnel at

all levels against an agreed standard, to analyse overall strengths and areas for development and to identify training and development needs.

Examples of How to Use Our Group Logo: Group Website

Our group site acts as our central hub to the external world so it’s importance is huge. This is why the brand has been carefully applied. Taking a minimalist approach with no clutter means the messages we wish to send out are easily identified by our audience. Our message is clear and focused with the surrounding of our modern brand.

Due to scrolling on web pages, our logo and emblem must both sit within the header bar and not diagonally opposite corners like those on potentially printed material.

Advertisements

The main area of focus here is the bottom left (half page) advert. When the guidelines are used correctly, the brand works seamlessly with the surrounding elements, creating a very clean, ‘straight-to-the-point’ advert.

The image is of a 2014 Ford transit van with our Groups vehicle livery on. The livery showcases our new emblem which stands out from a distance. Our group logo sits within eyeshot of the emblem just below the driver’s / passenger’s door.
