A solid foundation in speech is particularly vital in the practice of law, politics, public relations and broadcasting, as well as business and teaching professions. Debate is known to develop critical thinking skills. The BSC Speech Communication curriculum provides a balance between speech theory and practice and core and selected communications courses. Study includes oral interpretation, voice and diction, and interpersonal communications. Students completing the requirements earn an Associate in Arts degree. Speech includes both verbal and nonverbal forms of communication. Professionals with a speech communication degree have a solid understanding of the elements of exceptional communication and know how to effectively connect with others in a variety of settings.
