In General• The Term is used randomly in horizontal and vertical system

definitions. No definition is found.

HC in ITS and Automation (CCAM) • European wide the term was introduced in the C-ITS

deployment platform phase 1 report (2016). • ITS Origen: Amsterdam Group Roadmap and Dutch

Rijkswaterstaat Standardisation report (2014).

Hybrid Communication

Complementarity, Interoperability and Coexistence!

C-ITS platform phase 1 report does not provide a clear definition. It only described that it should support

− communication neutrality with initial deployment based on complementary and concurrent operation of at least regular cellular and IEEE802.11p/ITS-G5 communication technologies.

Based on the limited clarification stakeholders developed their own view not necessarily being Interoperability and Backward compatible.

Hybrid Communication

To realize interoperable for CCAM services a common view on Hybrid Communication needs to be established!

The CODECS & EU Commission Initiative4 steps agreed:

• CODECS Workshop: sharing the views May 19th 2017.

• Report including findings, proposed definitions, concept and recommendations.

• C-ITS Platform meeting: Alignment of the results July 10th 2017

• Publication of the agreements and recommendations: CODECS Workshop ITS Hybrid Communication report T4.2.1*

To further improve safety and support traffic automation (CCAM)By increased data exchange with extended internal sensors and exchange between ITS stations.

Key issues:• Information integrity e.g. trust,

quality, validity, security and privacy

• Communication integrity e.g. avai-lability, access possibility, efficiency,so increase Quality of Service (QoS)

• System integrity e.g. Functional Safety, Increase of data exchange

Main objective, to maximized the functional awareness

Maximizing awareness by sharing data with others

• Basic common understanding, to follow the EU Commission neutral multi-communications approach of deploying initially available complementary and interoperable standard cellular 3-4G and ITS-G5 technologies.

• Other technologies are invited to follow and provide complementary services e.g. Higher CoS, to facilitate extended CCAM services.

• Any CCAM solution needs to comply to the Functional Safety requirements (ISO/TS 26262)

Key results

Existing e.g. ITS-G5 & standard Cellular New Technologies e.g. 5G

+ = CCAM• High QoS• Functional safety• Enh Data integrety• Grow data exchange• Enh Security• Enh Loc Accuracy

• Clarity about the quality of the information transmitted

• End2End interoperability and backward compatibility

• Higher Geolocation accuracy to support services such as VRU

• Extended privacy solutions to support information aggregation within the context of the GDPR

• Extend and improvement of ITS and Automation ETSI and ISO standards such as DATEX II, CPM and CMM

• Realize European standardized MEC interchange interface and related business models

• Effective use of available spectrum must be ensured

• “Hybrid Communication is not a specific architecture nor a system but it’s the recognized identifier representing the collection of functional and technical improvements to realize to satisfy the main objective of Day-2 and beyond CCAM related data exchange.”

• It became a common recognized term and now an European objective.

• Focus: ”To Work together in realizing the identified resolve the HS challenges such that Day-2 deployments can be realized”.

15

At Architecture and System Management• To evaluate the Functional Safety system requirements and

propose related ITS related standardisation actions

• To evaluate the consequences of the “Extended Vehicle Model” (ACEA) and MEC services to come to the extended ITS architecture and standardisation.

• Evaluate the QoS requirements• To evaluate Multi-Channel

operation, considering several technologies, specify MCO functionalities and standardize the components.

CCAM aspects to address

16

At Applications and Facilities• Improve message sets to include additional parameters by which

Information integrity e.g. trust, quality, validity, security and privacy can be improved.

• To realize Geolocation accuracy improvement services (started_

• To realize new message sets for VRU, C-ACC & Platooning• To realize advanced awareness services such as Collective

Perception supporting enhanced Active Safety and Integral Safety

• To support the privacy requirements (GDPR)

Where do we stand in Standardisation

There has been identified many standardisation improvements to enable CCAM.

• A number of new work-items have been created and are worked on. New ones are expected in the near future.
