Aluminium products can be recycled again and again. At the end of its usefullife, an aluminium product can be turned back into high quality metal using only5% of the energy required during its primary production. Recycling ofaluminium is therefore not only ecologically sympathetic but is extremely cost effective.
SPECIFICATION DETAILS
Guttermaster products are designed to be simple to install, trouble-free in operationand to possess exceptional longevity once installed.
To ensure that gutter systems live up to expectations, installation procedures shouldbe carried out in line with the requirements of BS EN 12056-3:2000.

THE INTERNET
Our website, www.guttermaster.co.uk, includes comprehensive details of all ourproducts together with regularly updated "News" and "Project Gallery" sections. Each product detail is linked to a full specification which can be copied into yourown documents, and all our standard profiles are available in Autodesk I-dropformat so that including them in your own CAD drawings is a simple "drag-and-drop" operation.
DESIGNED FOR SECURITY
The problems of security for public and private sector buildings are well documented;indeed crime and its prevention is increasingly important for the architect.
Unfortunately, most rainwater pipes present a perfect access point for those withcriminal intent, and can be a weak link in the security chain.
THE GUTTERMASTER SOLUTION
To overcome this potential weak link, Guttermaster has designed and manufactureda high security rainwater disposal system, which offers flush fitting rainwater pipes, complete with a concealed fixing system.
A completely uninterrupted rainwater pipe which fits flush to the building providesminimal purchase and acts as a barrier to climbing.
5INTRODUCTION

4INTRODUCTION
DIRECT FIXING THE GUTTER WITHOUT BRACKETS (A)
Position the outlets to line up with drain location. Fix the outlets to the fascia board using the slots provided.Similarly, fix angles and stop ends. Set a line between the outlets and angles or stop ends and fix gutterlengths at maximum 500mm centres, again using the slots provided. Gutters should be secured to fasciaboard with No. 10 x 25mm zinc plated or stainless steel roundhead twin threaded screws.
FIXING WITH FASCIA BRACKETS (B)
Position the outlets to line up with drain location. Fix fascia brackets within 300mm either side of the outlets.Fix additional brackets within 150mm of angles and stopends. Set a line between these brackets, all remainingbrackets should then be fixed at maximum 1,000mm centres. Brackets should be secured to fascia board withNo. 10 x 30mm zinc plated or stainless steel countersunk twin threaded screws. The gutter is a ‘Snap’ fitunder the wind restraints.
FIXING TO RAFTERS (C)Position outlets as above. Bracket locations will be dictated by the rafter positions. For this reason it will benecessary to reduce the fixing centres to 600mm maximum. In practice this will usually mean that every rafterwill have a bracket..
Rafter brackets should be secured using No.12 x 40mm. zinc plated or stainless steel countersunk twinthreaded screws.
SEALING THE JOINTS (D)
Ensure both surfaces of the gutter joint are clean - Guttermaster recommends the use of Loctite 7063Cleaner. Apply low modulus neutral cure silicone to BS5889 (type A) in 6mm diameter continuous beadsaround the full girth of the gutter. Set gutters 3mm apart (to allow thermal movement) and insert the unionclip. Secure aluminium bolts using 29mm diameter neoprene backed washer and nuts (provided byGuttermaster). The spacers in the joint will offer resistance when the bolts are tight enough - DO NOTOVERTIGHTEN. Smear sealant around exposed threads of bolts. Remove excess sealant. Allow 24 hours forpartial cure.

N.B. The 200 x 150 Gutter is a pressing, and therefore does not have the lip feature.
All dimensions can be adjusted to suit specific requirements.
The Guttermaster Moulded No. 46 gutter is taken from the traditional cast iron No. 46 pattern to provide astrong, long lasting, yet lightweight and competitive gutter to give a decorative eaves detail on a wide rangeof applications. It can be used as a direct replacement for cast iron on refurbishment or on new build.Thick gauge extrusion, using a high strength alloy, 6063 T6, allows us to produce a much straighter gutterthan other methods of manufacture (1.5mm/metre for extrusion compared with 3.5mm/metrefor casting).
Special Features:• To prevent leakage, the lip detail at the top of the gutter section enables the joint to lock into place• The vertical rear face of the gutter reduces unsightly gaps which can be particularly noticeable on
polyester coated systems whilst allowing the gutter to be fixed to a fascia without brackets if required• Exceeds British standard thickness requirements.• To prevent wind uplift the Guttermaster system incorporates wind restraint lips which lock the gutter
into position• Extra large gutters available up to 400mm wide, 300mm deep

FIXING WITH FASCIA BRACKETS (A)
Position the outlets to line up with drain location. The bracket is designed tohold the gutter off the fascia by 25mm to allow all jointing to be carried out at eaves level. Once this hasbeen completed the gutter is pushed back into position and secured to the snow load restraint, using the M6bolts and nuts provided.
FIXING TO RAFTERS (B)Position outlets as above. Bracket locations will be dictated by the rafter positions. For this reason it will benecessary to reduce the fixing centres to 600mm maximum. In practice this will usually mean that every rafterwill have a bracket. When using side fixing rafter brackets, it will be necessary to notch each rafter. Rafterbrackets should be secured using No.12 x 40mm. zinc plated or stainless steel countersunk twin threaded screws.
SEALING THE JOINTS (C)
Ensure both surfaces of the gutter joint are clean - Guttermaster recommends the use of Loctite 7063Cleaner. Apply low modulus neutral cure silicone to BS5889 (type A) in 6mm diameter continuous beadsaround the full girth of the gutter. Insert the internal union (or the spigot into the socket) and secure withaluminium bolts using 29mm diameter neoprene backed washer and nuts (provided by Guttermaster). Thespacers in the joint will offer resistance when the bolts are tight enough - DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Smearsealant around exposed threads of bolts. Remove excess sealant. Allow 24 hours for partial cure.

Conventional Box Gutter systems have, over many years, been extensively criticised by both specifiers and installers.
The Guttermaster solution addresses the two main areas of criticism which are ‘poor jointing’ andinadequate support arrangements.
The RG range is available with joggle feature as indicated, or plain ended with separate internalunion.Where the joggle feature is required please suffix product code with J.
Special Features:• The only system to supply wind and snow resistant brackets as standard (a common cause of failure in
competitive systems)• Socket and spigot joints with spacers, prevent over tightening and subsequent leakage, replacing
unreliable and unsightly ‘butt straps’ and unions found on inferior systems.• Supplied in standard 2.0mm thickness to BS 2997, but is also readily available in 2.5mm and 3.0mm• Guttermaster systems use only 4015 H12 alloys in compliance with BS requirements (softer commercial
grades of alloys can be found in competitive systems).

The first truly new gutter profile for years - the inside half-round profile provides the ideal shape for efficientdrainage whilst the external “Serpentine” shape adds visually pleasing curves to both new and refurbished eaves.
2.0mm thick high strength aluminium extrusion (alloy 6063T6) results in a gutter more than strong enoughto withstand everyday loads, whilst the bottom leg provides added support for snow loading.
Designed to be fixed without the need for brackets, the Serpentine HR gutter gives a smooth unbrokenappearence. With straightness tolerances of +/ 1.5mm/metre, the extrusion process offers the cleanest lines possible.
Special Features:• The unique profile (Registered Design No. 2094352) allows the gutter to be fixed without brackets,
resulting in speedy, economical installation.• The lip detail at the top of the gutter section allows the joint to lock into place.• The “Serpentine” leg feature provides snow loading support along the full length of the gutter.• A totally distinctive appearance.

Guttermaster’s high capacity Deep Run beaded profile is extruded from 3.0mm thick heavy guagealuminium, producing an extremely strong, rigid gutter which exceeds all the relevant British standards requirements.
To enhance the hydraulic performance of the Deep run profile with its semi-circular sole, the joint is locatedoutside the gutter, allowing maximum unbroken flow.
The pronounced “bead” on the top leading edge produces a gutter of classical elegance whilst affordingcontinuous support against dead loads imposed by ice and snow or ladder weights.
Special Features:• High flow capacity.• Allows a reduction in the number of rainwater pipes.• Support incorporated into the joint union results in fewer fascia brackets.• An economical alternative to traditional cast aluminium deep-run gutters.• The leg feature on brackets and union joints provides support in the severest of
conditions, especially at joint positions.• The front lip feature provides continuous strength at the most vulnerable point and offers
attractive “edge beading”.

FIXING THE GUTTER Position the outlets to line up with drain location. Fix the outlets to the fascia board through the holesprovided. Similarly, fix angles and stop ends. Set a line between the angles and outlets or stop ends, and fixgutter lengths at 1,000mm centres. Since each external union joint also provides a fixing, only two fasciabrackets per 3,000mm gutter length are required to give fixings at 1,000mm centres. Fascia brackets andunions should be secured to the fascia board using No.10 x 25mm zinc plated or stainless steel roundheadtwin-threaded woodscrews.
SEALING THE JOINTS
Ensure both surfaces of the gutter joint are clean - Guttermaster recommends the use of loctite 7063Cleaner. Apply low modulus neutral cure silicone to BS5889 (type A) in 6mm diameter continuous beadsaround the full girth of the union. Set gutters 3mm apart (to allow thermal movement) and insert into theunion clip. Secure aluminium bolts using 22mm diameter aluminium washer and nuts (provided byGuttermaster). The spacers in the joint will offer resistance when the bolts are tight enough - DO NOTOVERTIGHTEN. Smear sealant around exposed threads of bolts. Remove excess sealant. Allow 24 hoursfor partial cure.

INSTALLATION
Ensure all pipes are set plumb. The distance from the wall will vary according to the type of fixing chosen.
Ensure there is sufficient room behind the pipe (see fig A) to ‘Bed-in’ your chosen gully/drain. If thefoundations project beyond the line of the building it may be necessary to use a small offset (see fig B) oralternatively the extension base clip may be used to bring the whole stack away from the wall (see fig C).
FIXING USING CAST EARED SOCKETS (D)
Sockets should be fixed using No.12 x 50mm zinc plated or stainless steel twin threaded screws withwashers, fixing into wall plugs. Alternatively, use 50x6mm zinc plated or stainless steel expanding sleeve anchors.
Fixings should be at not greater than 2,000mm centres. Saddle clips should be used as an intermediate fixing when required.
FIXING USING SMALL BASE CLIPS (E)
The ‘T’ base should be fixed to the wall using No.10 x 50mm zinc plated or stainless steel twin threadedscrews with washers, fixing into wall plugs. The pipe clip is then bolted to the ‘T’ base using the M6x25mmstainless steel bolts, nuts and washers provided.
Fixings should be at not greater than 2,000mm centres.
FIXING USING EXTENSION BASE CLIPS (F)
The extension base should be fixed to the wall using No.10 x 50mm zinc plated or stainless steel twinthreaded screws with washers, fixing into wall plugs. The extension piece is then cut down to give thedesired stand-off using a hacksaw with suitable aluminium cutting blade, and the cut end de-burred. A 6mmhole should then be drilled in the extension piece using a suitable metal drill. The pipe clip is then bolted tothe extension base using the M6x25mm stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers provided.
Fixings should be at not greater than 2,000mm centres.
SEALING THE JOINTS (G)
CIRCULAR: Each pipe and fitting is supplied with die cast socket (either with fixing ears or without).
Unlike other systems the top of the socket is not a loose fit to the pipe, so it is a matter of preferencewhether this is sealed
Lightly smear the end of each component with silicone. The socket is then lightly driven on to the pipe witha mallet. The pipe will locate into a recess within the socket.
SQUARE AND RECTANGULAR: Each component is supplied with the socket (either eared or uneared)welded on, unlike other systems the top of the socket is not a loose fit to the pipe, so it is a matter ofpreference whether this is sealed
Always ensure a 3mm gap is allowed for thermal movement (when using longer lengths of pipe allow 1.2mm/m).

RAINWATER DRAINAGE SYSTEM DESIGN PRINCIPLES
As part of the Guttermaster service, our expertise in the design of rainwater systems has prompted manyspecifiers to call on our assistance at the early stages of the design.
All our systems are designed in accordance with BS EN 12056-3:2000
GUTTER FALL
Guttermaster gutter systems are designed to be installed nominally level.
PRODUCT SELECTION
Depending on the design requirements of the rainwater system, it is possible to select the preferred profile, gutter size and rainwater pipe to effectively drain the roof. The capacities of various gutter and pipecombinations are shown below.
SNOW
Gutters designed with adequate capacity for rainwater flow are deemed to have sufficient capacity for thedraining of melting snow. However, all rainwater systems risk the possibility of becoming blocked by frozensnow or damaged by the sheer weight of snow sliding from a pitched roof.
Selected Guttermaster systems offer additional support and strengthening if the building so requires. Wherethere is a possibility of sliding snow causing damage to people or property below, snow guards should befitted to pitched roofs.
Please contact our Technical Department for further guidance.
LIGHTNING PROTECTION
Selected Guttermaster systems can be used as part of a building’s lightning protection system, utilising our"lightning link" system.
Rainwater pipes are not generally considered suitable as lightning conductors, and it is recommended thatcontinuous lightning tapes be used. These can be concealed behind rainwater pipes if required.
Further guidance can be found in BS6651: Protection of structures against lightning.
FOUR SIMPLE STEPS TO THE SUCCESSFUL DESIGN OF A RAINWATER DRAINAGE SYSTEM.
1.CALCULATE THE EFFECTIVE ROOF AREA (A)
The effective roof area (A) is calculated from the equation given below, which includes an allowance forwind driven rain at 26° to the vertical:
2. ESTABLISH THE RAINFALL INTENSITY (R)
BS EN 12056-3:2000 recommends that statistical rainwater data be used. However, where this is notpossible, it is generally accepted that a rainfall intensity (R) of 0.02 (litres/second)/m2 may be used.
3. ESTABLISH THE RISK FACTOR (C)
A risk factor should be established based on the following information.
4. CALCULATE THE VOLUME OF WATER TO BE DRAINED FROM THE ROOF (Q)
The total rate of rainwater flow (Q) in litres/second is calculated from the following equation:
A= LxW + (L x H)

Shoe
Although originally designed forsecurity conscious environments, thevisually pleasing lines have resulted inthis product being specified on low-risk buildings.
The stylish flush-fix pipe is now incommon use where clean unbrokenlines or vandal resistance areimportant factors.
Insurance companies are increasinglydemanding that anti-vandal productsbe incorporated into the originaldesign of a building, rather than beingretrofit at a later date.
FIXING THE PIPE
Unlike conventional pipes, the slimline flush-fix is fitted from groundlevel upwards. Fix either the plinth offset or shoe using No.10 x50mm zinc plated or stainless steel countersunk twin threadedscrews using wall plugs. This is repeated with subsequent pipelengths or fittings. The last operation is to secure the gutter outlet.
SEALING THE JOINTS
The system will be fully watertight without sealing. However, ifpreferred a thin bead of low modulus silicone sealant may beapplied around the outside of the internal joint before inserting intothe pipe below.
Always allow a 3mm gap for thermal expansion.
FURTHER INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ININSTRUCTION SHEET REF. IS-FF1, AVAILABLE ON REQUEST
ROOF EDGE POSITION
The spread of water as it leaves the roofedge is dependent on rainfall rate, roofcovering and pitch. In most instances thegutter should be fixed centrally below theroof edge, as close as is practical to it.
