SAJ SPECIFICATION FOR SADDLES

1.0 General

This specification is applicable to Saddles and shall conform to JKR Standard Specification for

Ferrous Saddles JKR 20200-0184-04 or other specifications shall be used.

2.0 Types of Saddles

2.1 Saddles types: -

a) Saddle type A – for Mild Steel (SPAN TS 21827), Ductile Iron pipe (MS 1919:2013)

and Asbestos Cement pipe (MS 712)

b) Saddle type B – for uPVC (MS 628), mPVC (MS 628), Modified PVC (MS 628) and

PVC-O (ISO16422).

3.0 Materials

3.1 The clamp Saddles should be manufactured from compounded material meeting the

specifications.

3.2 All materials likely to contact with potable water should be incapable of permitting bacterial growth.

3.3 All casting shall have smooth, homogenous and free from flaws, cracks blow outs or

other harmful defects.

3.4 Dimensions of bolts, nuts and washer materials should be selected from table below.

4.0 Nominal size

4.1 Saddle shall be one of the following nominal sizes DN 80, DN 100, DN 150, DN 200, DN

250, DN 300 and DN 350.

4.2 Designated of the ferrous saddle shall be base on nominal diameter of the pipe and the

boss shall permit tapping within the sizes range ½ to 1 BSP.

5.0 Dimensions and tolerances

5.1 The dimensions of bolts and nuts shall be as specified with track head, or similar neck

which located in similarly shaped hole in the saddle body, thus preventing rotation of

the bolts and permitting tightening of the bolts using only one spanner.

5.2 Thread length shall in every case be in sufficient length to permit proper tightening of the ferrous saddle to create the designed pressure seal without the nut reaching the end

of the threaded section.

5.3 Tapping hole shall be threaded in accordance with BS 21 with positive tolerance deviation accordance with the requirements of BS 2779.

6.0 Gaskets

6.1 Gaskets shall be such size and shape as to provide a pressure tight seal for the life

expectancy of the pipeline under the specified working, transient and test pressure conditions.

6.2 For saddle Type A, sealing gasket must contained within the recess between the boss

and the pipe. The thickness of the rubber sealing gasket shall be not less than 4 mm while the outside diameter shall not less than 75 mm.

6.3 For saddle Type B, sealing gasket must contained within the recess between the pipes

shall be not less than 4 mm while the rubber gasket contained under the ferrous saddle body shall be not less than 1.5 mm.

7.0 Coating

The coatings on saddle body shall be Fusion Bonded Epoxy from 250 µm to 350 µm thickness.

8.0 Test and inspection

All saddle shall comply with the tests in accordance with the specifications.




9.0 Markings

Each Ferrous Saddles shall be marked with the following requirements.

a) Manufacturer’s name or trade mark or brand

b) The designation of size

c) Body material designation d) Year of manufacture

e) Standard of manufacture f) Ferrous Saddle type

g) Lettering “SAJ”

10.0 Pre- Delivery Inspection and Evaluation

a) It is the responsibility of the supplier to inform SAJ for inspection purposes during

manufacturing and before delivery.

b) SAJ reserve the right to inspect and witness the testing of product offered.

c) At any time, when requested, the supplier is to provide SAJ a sample of the product

offered for evaluation purposes. All costs shall be borne by the supplier.

d) If at any time the supplier fails to deliver the required sample, the product is deemed fail

to meet the specifications.

11.0 Certification

a) Manufacturer of supplier are required to provide a copy of the certificate and testing

report from SIRIM, IKRAM or other recognised certification body.

b) Tests report required shall be those tests conducted within a year period.

c) SAJ have the right to refuse offer or reject supply if the documents required are not

enclosed.
