    1. SCOPE

1.1 (New)The SI system of measurement shall be used exclusively in all technical

documents, drawings, calculation sheets with the exception of ANSI flanges and

    2. NORMATIVE REFERENCE2.1 (New)

The auxiliary systems of centrifugal pumps, such as lubricating systems, seal

flushing systems, cooling systems etc. shall be built in accordance with the

requirements of API 610 11th Ed. andAPI 682 3st Ed., as applicable.

General specifications for engineering disciplines (such as Pressure

Vessels and HeatExchangers, Instrumentation, Piping etc.) are not applicable to

these auxiliary systems.Equivalent internationally recognized Codes and

Standards (such as DIN, ISO, JIS etc.) may besubstituted to the Codes and

The pump vendor shall assume engineering responsibility for the entire unit, including

    the abovecomponents..

6.1.8 (Modification)The Net Positive Suction Head Available (NPSHA) shall exceed the Net Positive

Suction Head Required (NPSHR) by at least 1 meter throughout the range from

minimum continuous stable flow up to and including the rated capacity. If the

suction pressure at the pump is less thanatmospheric, this margin shall be at least

2 meters. From rated capacity up to 125% of bestefficiency point the NPSHR shall not

    exceed the NPSHA.

Reference for the NPSH3 shall be:

    a. Pump shaft centreline for horizontal pumpsb. First impeller eye for vertical pumps

For firewater pumps, the NPSH3 shall be checked at 150% of ratedcapacity.

6.1.9 (Addition)Pump Suction Specific Speed shall not exceed 15100 metric units (rev/min,m3/h and m)equivalent to 13000 in customary units (RPM, GPM, Ft).

When pump is expected to operate at less than 70% of Best Efficiency Point(flow) suctionspecific speed above 14000 (12000 customary units) is notacceptable.Suction Specific Speed is based on flow and NPSH3 (3% head decay of first

stage) at BestEfficiency Point of maximum diameter impeller.

This paragraph does not apply to pumps with inducer (use of inducer is subjectto Purchaserapproval).

6.1.11 (Modification)a. Pumps shall have stable head / flow curve which continuously rise to shutoff.

    b. In general, head ratio from rated point to shutoff shall be at least 10%. Unless

otherwise specified in relevant pump data sheet, maximum head rise shall be

    20%.

    c. High speed, high head, low flow pumps may not comply with above a) and b)

    requirementswith Purchaser and Owner approval.

Vendor of low flow, high head pumps to advise Purchaser if fixed or automatic

    minimum flowprotection is required.

    d. Pump in parallel operation shall have the same shutoff pressure (which shall be

    confirmed atthe performance test).

Differences shall be 1 %, based on the pumping system characteristics. API

    tolerance shallbe always met.

This requirement does not apply in case of parallel operation of existing and

new pumps. In such a case parallel operation shall be evaluated case by case.

    e. Firewater pump characteristics shall follow NFPA 20 requirements.
