Key Dates ICT - RC In term 4 I will be working in the Resource Centre with the prep and Middle levels.

PREPS

The preps will be learning to save documents to the school server and locate them again for use in other applications.

They will learn how to use Powerpoint to create a slideshow of pictures they have created in the drawing program Paint. This will be related to changes in the seasons and how they affect our lives.

MIDDLES

To start the term Middle students will have a series of lessons on word processing skills and procedures. They will learn the steps involved in creating, editing, formatting and publishing a document.

This will be followed by an introduction to emailing, focussing on email etiquette and safety.

Lastly we will use the program iMovie to import and edit video content to create a movie.

Our projection into the world of the Ultranet has been a big success.

The CSPS Community site continues to grow and improve. All levels now have a collaborative space which is used for sharing information between the school and home.

All parents have already received their welcome letters for registration on the Ultranet site and judging by the volume of emails I have received many have registered.

As a parent, the Ultranet will give you more detailed and timely access to information so you can monitor and support your child’s learning.

THE ULTRANET

Daily Play Choosing an instrument requires all students to have an attraction towards that instrument and it’s sound. Daily play needs to be a delight, and can be if the sound is an enjoyment. Right now Grade 2 students need to be thinking about what instrument to take up next year – which includes recorder. Kinesthetic sense allows people to feel internally the movements of their muscles, joints and tendons. At first, you need to concentrate in order to make your fingers move in just the right way, based on what you see. What you're learning is precision. But after a while, the "seeing-thinking-doing" gradually becomes "seeing-doing" because your muscles seem to "know" and "remember" just what to do. What you're learning now is speed, i.e. how to perform the task carefully and quickly. That's muscle memory. Now by making the same movements in response to the same visual cues over and over again, the associated nerve-muscle connections gradually become more effective, i.e. the transmission of the signals becomes more effective, and this is how the "thinking" in the "seeing-thinking-doing" is gradually replaced by "seeing-doing", i.e. by muscle memory. Instrumental lessons have started. All students need to practice for at least 5 sittings

a week – for at least 20 minutes in the beginning!

ITALIAN PREPS: This term has begun with keen interest and enjoyment. The children will be focusing on Animal (animals) and will be introduced to other animals not mentioned in the Pinocchio storybook from last term. They will be encouraged to take part in games, such as snap, singing and even some role-playing, which will help them in the repetition of the vocab. We will also extend both their writing and speaking of Italian through the games, role-plays and worksheets.

JUNIORS: This term we are using the book "Mangia, Mangia" (eat, eat) which will focus on the different food groups: meat, vegetables and fruit. The children will participate in games, role plays, songs and chants, which will encourage them to a better understanding of the topic and also aid in their pronunciation of the topic's vocab.

MIDDLES: The focus for this term is a small play of "Cappucetto Rosso" (Red Riding Hood). All the children will have a part in the play. They will be performing the play in groups to their fellow classmates. The students will participate in many activities which will be used to help them gain confidence in reading and roleplaying and which in turn will aid them with their pronunciation of the topic's vocab. The students will also participate in both written and oral work based on the topic.

SENIORS: La Casa (the house) is the topic for this term. The students will learn the names of the rooms in the house. They will construct (at home) one room of their choice to present to the class (shoebox size). The students will participate in both written and oral work on the topic as a means of helping them boost their confidence levels in Italian and this will be done through short sentences and answering simple questions to gain more information about the topic and also help them with their pronunciation of the topic's vocab.

DANCE Middle Unit are exploring the wonderful world of Dance! Each class is working in small groups to create a piece of abstract choreography. They have designed their own floor plan using pieces of equipment from the PE store room and will add depth and variety with basic dance technique in the form of travelling steps, turns, rolls, poses, arm lines and off balance with differing levels, speed and size. In contrast they are also learning the choreography of big theatrical production number, having to remember steps, be aware of space, use their personality and work as a whole team - all that with a hat and a cane, to dance with, too! The children will experience the excitement of performance when they showcase their work and achievement to their family friends. DanceClub@CSPS is available for year 1's – year 6's and each class is working hard on their dances for the Christmas assembly – all VERY exciting!!

MUSIC Whole School

Jon  Madin’s  Workshops  have  been  a  highlight  so  far  for  the  whole  school.    This  visit  is  a  celebration  of  all  the  hard  work  students  have  put  into  tuned  percussion  over  the  years.  

Xylophones  and  glockenspiels  were  used  with  Jon  Maddin’s  program  to  engage  the  children  in  a  joyful  and  interesting  practical  program.    With  a  band  method,  children  that  take  an  instrument  outside  of  the  classroom  can  take  on  complex  lines,  while  children  that  are  new  to  the  school  can  take  on  very  simple  lines.    Then  playing  together  in  a  band,  everyone  can  sound  awesome!    Which  is  exactly  what  happened  when  Jon  arrived  –  bringing  the  theatre  to  life  with  Echocellos,  Marimbas  and  Musical  Bikes.    We  celebrated  further  with  a  Family  Soiree/Workshop.    Many  parents  and  even  a  grandparent  came  along  to  participate  with  the  children  J  

SINGING:    Our  end  of  year  celebrations  are  coming!    AS  such,  our  singing,  dancing  and  dramatics  come  together  now  as  we  rehearse  for  our  big  assembly  on  December  19th.  Please  check  out  http://misslyonsmusicroom.edublogs.org  where  the  tunes  and  lyrics  have  been  uploaded.  Any  parent  that  plays  an  instrument  –  we  are  putting  together  a  full  orchestra,  so  please  contact  me  if  you  would  like  to  join  in.

PE

This term the whole school will be involved in the House Sports competition on Friday 2nd December. A fun and exciting day will be had by all so feel free to come along and watch and cheer on the day.

Preps and Juniors This term students will be focusing on the fundamental motor skills of throwing, catching and forehand strike, modified games such as T-Ball and Bat Tennis will be used to encourage students to cooperate in game and class situations and displaying good sportsmanship. The preps will be starting there platoon sports program and looking forward to playing games with their teachers and friends.

Middles This term students are furthering their fundamental motor skills by learning and focusing on catching, throwing and fielding as their major P.E skill. They are also learning game and competitive situations preparing them for interschool competition. These same skills are being focused on during their platoon times. The middles will also have the opportunity to learn new sports such as Touch Football and Skipping and elastics.

Seniors

Seniors have a very busy term again in term 4 they will be involved the GIDSSA Athletics competition and the house sports competition. A number of students will be representing CSPS in District finals of Basketball, Softball and Athletics and Volleyball. Good luck to all teams involved. During the seniors PE lessons students will fine-tune their skills focusing on new sports such as Touch Football, Skipping and elastics and Fitness testing. Seniors will also be participating in the Bike Ed program run on Thursday s in addition to their PE class time; this is a very valuable program that helps the student to become ready to ride their bike on the road and use it for travel and recreation.

This term the Prep children will work with clay to create a little person learning important joining techniques. Literature will be once again used as a stimulus for creating interesting “Wild things”. Real flowers will be used to improve observation skills and the children will draw and paint these to create wonderful pictures.

The Junior Inquiry, Mini Beasts will provide the stimulus for two construction projects- a spider in its web and an amazing bug. The areas of painting and drawing will be covered as the children go into the garden to observe and draw plants. They will then create an imaginary garden where they find themselves shrunken in size.

This term the Middle children will develop their skills using clay and produce a coil pot to be fired and decorated. The abstract art of Picasso will be explored and his style will be copied to produce a painting of a friend. Geometric and organic shapes will be introduced and then applied to printing tasks.

The Senior children will model and tackle the construction of an armature (a wire and Styrofoam frame). Newspaper and Modroc will be used to complete the model. These will be painted and decorated. Clay will be explored and the children will create a creature based on “Where the Wild Things are”. The Bike Education program will also provided ideas for artwork.

While the classroom program heavily supports the Musical Theatre piece, there are after school rehearsals, occasional weekend work, and the evening performances. The majority of weekend work is

done in the art room. Mrs. O’Neill leads a team of talented parents that make all the props and sets. The weekend work takes much passion and energy and we highly value the work that Neil Ritchie

During this year, we don’t run a family concert nor do the Music Count Us In project due to the time it takes to do each well.

FAIR YEAR

Family Concert – Remember the days before television where families would gather around the lounge room hearth to play folk tunes together? We welcome parents,

cousins, aunts and uncles playing with the CSPS children in family units to our stage. Students are invited to bring throw cushions, throw rugs, beanbags and even teddies, as

we share our pieces as a warm way of showing family love. Music as a family expression – quite different to the formal performance of other soirees. A low key, warm
