Mr. Herries then explained the effect of the various altera­tions and moved that they be adopted. This was seconded byMr. Potter and carried unanimously.

This terminated the Special General Meeting.

The following are the Revised Rules :-

I V.

Members shall, subject to Rule XI, have the right ofattending and voting at all Meetings and Excursions of theAssociation, of proposing Candidates for admission as OrdinaryMembers, of serving, if elected, on the Council or in any Officeof the Association, of introducing two Visitors at the OrdinaryMeetings and Excursions except when otherwise ordered bythe Council, of using the Library in accordance with theLibrary Regulations, of receiving a copy of the Circulars andProceedings of the Association issued during their member­ship, and of purchasing other Publications of the Associationat such prices as the Council may from time to time determine.

(This Rule replaces the old Rule IV. See Proc. Geol. Assoc.,Vol. xx, p. 1.)

XIII.

The management of the Association shall be vested in aCouncil consisting of a President, four Vice-Presidents, aTreasurer, one or more Secretaries as the Council may fromtime to time determine, an Editor, a Librarian, and twelveother Members. The Council and Officers shall be electedannually by ballot at the Annual General Meeting; providedthat the senior Vice-President, and the two senior Members ofthe Council who shall not have held during the preceding yearany distinctive office, shall not be eligible for re-election asVice-President or unofficial Members of the Coun cil, respec­tively, until the next Annual General Meeting ; and that thenew Council shall contain at least four Members who were notMembers of the Council during the preceding year.

XXI.

The Accounts of the Association shall be made up to the31st December in each year, and audited by two .Members ofthe Association, not being Members of the Council, who shallbe appointed by the Members as Auditors not later than theJanuary Meeting following ; and the Balance-sheet shall be

submitted, together with a Report of the general progress ofthe Association during the preceding year, to an AnnualGeneral Meeting, which shall be held at such hour beforethe Ordinary Meeting in February as the Council shall appoint.

XXII.

Persons of eminence in geological science, or who have donesome special service to the Association, may be recommended bythe Council for election as Honorary Members at the AnnualGeneral Meeting, and shall, upon being elected, have fullrights and privileges of Membership, but the number ofHonorary Members shall not exceed twenty-five.

(This Rule replaces the old Rule XXII. See loco cit.)

XXIV.

No rule shall be altered except by a majority of votes of theMembers present and voting at a Special General Meetingconvened for that purpose.

(This Rule replaces the old Rule XXIV. See loco cit.)

XXV.

Any Library, Museum, Scientific Society, Club, or otherPublic Institution may on application be admitted by theCouncil to be placed on the list of Members of the Association,and shall, on payment in advance of the sum of lOS. per annum,be entitled to such of the publications of the Association asare delivered free to the Members, but shall not be entitled toany other rights or privileges. The Council shall have fullpower to grant or to refuse permission to any such applicant,and the name of any Library, Museum, or other such Insti­tution may be removed from the List of Members by theCouncil at any time.
