If there is continuing difficulty with school work, you may make a referral for a special education evaluation at any time.

5What is Free and Appropriate Education?- FAPE ensures all students with disabilities receive an appropriate public education at no expense to the family. FAPE differs for each student because of needs. FAPE guarantees that for students who are found eligible for special education, school district must be prepared to provide services according to the IEP beginning no later than his 3rd birthday. He may continue services until his 22nd birthday or until he receives a standard diploma, whichever comes first. Individualized Education Plan- IEPDefinition- outlines specific learning needs, based upon professional evaluation and identifies supports that are needed to assist the child to meet his goals. Overview- Components- Student VisionParticipation in goal curriculumOther educational needsIDEA federal law- students should participate in general curriculum. Annual goals- broad generalized statements- who, what , where how, when? Measurable Annual Goals- broken down into benchmarks.Objectives- smaller steps child needs to make to reach annual goalCommon goals- psychomotor, cognitive, affectiveObjectives- 4 main things- audience, behavior, condition, degree.Goals and Objectives

After the goals and objectives have been set in place, It is the districts responsibility and the parents responsibility to be available for an annual review of goals. Hopefully, the child has met adequate progress and new goals will be constructed.
