We will be at Level 4 restrictions until the 30 July. I thank you all for your continued support in keeping your children at home to minimise movement. School is open for essential workers and for those who need it. I would like to thank all our dedicated teachers who have worked during their holidays to ensure the Rose Bay Learning Hub was fully operational with timetables, links and learning activities for all students from day one. I would also like to acknowledge their continued work. Thank you to those who communicated with the school this week. I received many emails acknowledging the hard work and dedication of all our teachers. I would like to join you in acknowledging and thanking our dedicated ‘technology’ expert, Ms. Caldarevic, who has solved your queries and questions this week. I also appreciate the emails I received with questions and feedback - we are in this together. Next Tuesday I will be discussing ‘learning from home’ at the virtual P&C meeting. If you would like to attend, you will find the links on page 5 to register. If you have any questions you would like answered, please log them here prior to the meeting. Whilst our school day may appear very different, in many ways it is still the same. All students, either at school or at home are learning with 'one model of learning' that is delivered online by their classroom teacher. If this applies to your child please don’t hesitate to email the school and mark them as absent using the Sentral Parent Portal. Please enjoy the examples of Stage 2 students' ‘one model of learning’ in this issue. We will continue to highlight work from different years in the newsletter. We also encourage you to email your photos of ‘home learning’ to be published. All students were given the opportunity to participate in a Zoom meeting this week. This gave students the opportunity to connect with each other and their teacher. Some did experience technical difficulties that were resolved. Zoom meetings will continue next week and these sessions will be communicated on Seesaw. If there are any technical difficulties, please don’t hesitate to email the school. The NSW Department of Education has created a ‘learning from home hub’ for all parents and carers and I encourage you to view this. https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/learning-from-home/learning-at-home Last term we congratulated Mrs. Leonie Smith on her appointment as Deputy Principal, Bellevue Hill Public School. Special Edition Newsletter

Many thanks to all parents and carers for your continued support as we work together during this difficult time.

For those at school, the timetable is 9.20am – 3.20pm and these students are supervised by casual teachers and/or RBPS teaches not on a class. For those at home the timetable is flexible. All Seesaw activities are scheduled online at 7.00am and announcements are at 8.30am. Families have the flexibility to work at any time throughout the week. The most current activities are at the top.

We understand that at times children are unable to attend school or complete the learning activities online for a number of different reasons.

Last term we congratulated Mrs. Leonie Smith on her appointment as Deputy Principal, Bellevue Hill Public School. I am pleased to announce that Ms. Jann Barry will be relieving in her role as Assistant Principal, Stage 1 until a permanent replacement is appointed.

All families will receive a comprehensive outline of their child’s learning next week.

Below please find a whole school, Term 3 summary of learning for students. English and mathematics are taught each term and geography, science and history are taught throughout the year. The Biennial Art Show: ‘Behold – Our world’ is the focus this term in visual arts. All students will develop shared meanings and understandings about the world around them as they compose a piece to exhibit. All students will also continue with the dedicated music and PDHPE programs.

Curriculum News

Kindergarten In preparation for the art show in Term 4, our English focus will be on answering the big question ‘Why do we have art?’ Students will be looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction texts about artists and artworks, as they explore what they think an artist is. They will share their opinions and compose written responses to texts.

In mathematics, Kindy will be continuing to focus on concepts in number which includes patterning, addition, subtraction, as well as revisiting graphing, investigating 2D shape and mass.

In geography our topic is ‘My Place and My Family’. Students will investigate special places and how they can care for them.

Science this term is ‘Staying Alive’. Using the inquiry question, “What do we notice about living things?’ students learn about living things, including humans, and what

they need to stay alive. This will include learning about their five senses and the important role they play in our lives.

Stage 1 This term, students will engage with and discuss a range of literary and multimodal texts focusing on Dreamtime stories, narratives and Australian places which link to our geography unit. Beautiful, heart-warming stories will be used to inspire and motivate learning in English.

In mathematics, Stage 1 will continue to explore numbers, promote deep thinking and develop stronger number sense using the language of mathematics to explain their thinking across all strands.

In geography, students will investigate activities that occur within places and pose geographical questions as they learn about important places in Australia and how people use these places.

“Forces and Energy” is the science unit for this term. Students will investigate how forces are used for a purpose. They will experiment with different energy sources and design and make a ‘Rube Goldberg’ machine. Using digital technologies, students will be use robots to record and follow instructions for others to follow.

Stage 2

In English, students will apply a range of literary devices to create their own poems. They will further develop their comprehension and writing skills as they read, interpret and construct hybrid texts. These texts effectively combine informative and imaginative text to form one cohesive piece.

In mathematics, students will deepen their knowledge of mathematics as they focus on number and algebra, measurement and geometry with an emphasis on

students’ problem-solving skills using open-ended questioning and hands-on activities.

In science, students will learn about ‘Night and Day’ as they investigate how the Earth’s rotation on its axis causes regular changes. This will include the exploration of the sun’s movements

across the sky, the formation of shadows and the Earth’s rotation.

In Year 3, students will answer the historical inquiry question, ‘Why did the great journeys of exploration occur?’ as they explore first contacts. Year 4 students will answer the historical inquiry question, ‘Why did Europeans settle in Australia?’ as they investigate stories of the First Fleet.

Stage 3

In English, students will be studying the ‘Welcome to Country’ by Aunty Joy Murphy and ‘The Lost Thing’ by Shaun Tan. Students will respond to and compose persuasive, informative and imaginative texts.

In mathematics, students will undertake investigations and select appropriate strategies to solve real-world problems. Across all strands, they will make connections with existing knowledge and use mathematical terminology to explain, give reasons and justify their solution.

In geography, students will develop their own inquiry questions as they explore countries of the Asia and the connections Australia has

with other them, as they study ‘A Diverse and Connected World’.
