GENERAL
The REGAL Series 7000 SMART-VALVE shall be a modular systemcomponent capable of automaticallyvarying the gas chemical flow ratefrom a REGAL Gas Feed Systemusing standard 4-20 milliamp DCanalog input signals from fieldmounted transmitting devices suchas water flowmeter transmitters orcontact closures from pump motorstarter auxiliary contacts.
The REGAL SMARTVALVE shalloffer the user a choice of two (2)automatic control schemes; FlowProportional Control (FPC) or,Step Rate Control (SRC).
Model 7001 FPC (10 to 500 PPD)Model 7002 SRC (10 to 500 PPD)Model 7006 FPC (1,000/2,000 PPD)Model 7007 SRC (1,000/2,000 PPD)
Each control scheme is briefly definedas follows:
A.Flow Proportional Control (FPC)This control scheme is needed wheneverthe water flow rate to be treated variesand will work well as long as the qualityof the water remains constant. In thiscontrol scheme, the SMARTVALVEautomatically regulates the magnitudeof gas flow rate through a REGAL GasFeed System proportionally to the varyingwater flow rates. The required ratiodosage of chemical to the water flow rateis easily set by the operator to maintainthe desired residual using the keypad onthe SMARTVALVE enclosure.
B.Step Rate Control (SRC)This control scheme can be usedwhenever fixed speed pumps (up tofour) are used to move the water to betreated through a common line. TheSMARTVALVE responds to on/offsignals supplied by the pump circuitsand automatically positions the valveplug so that the correct amount ofchemical is added to the systemregardless of which or how manypumps are running at any given time.
SPECIFICATIONS
The REGAL SMARTVALVE shall beavailable in eight (8) maximum capacities:10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, and2,000 PPD (200, 500, 900, 2,000, and5,000 gms/hr and, 10, 20, and 40 kg/hr)using only four (4) different valve plugs.
The REGAL SMARTVALVE shall includea four phase linear, heavy duty steppermotor, feedback potentiometer andmodulating gas flow control valve. Thecircuitry shall produce a series of pulsessuch that the motor position is a functionof the number of pulses generated. Shaftdirection shall be a function of phasesequence, and speed shall be a functionof the pulse ratio. The rotary motion of themotor shall be converted to a linearmotion driving a precision machinedvalve plug in an orifice via a lead screw.
The valve plug shall move linearly amaximum of 1" for all capacities through2,000 PPD based on a maximum ofsixteen revolutions of the stepper motorwith two hundred precise motor positioningpoints per revolution. The lead screw andvalve plug shall move linearly a maximumof 0.0003125" per motor pulse.
For maximum system accuracy, and tocompensate for manufacturing tolerancedifferences in the various parts makingup the complete gas feed system, theSMARTVALVE shall include a programby which the factory and/or the end usercan easily linearize the valves digitaldisplay to precisely match the gas feedsystems metering tube reading in PPD at25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of capacity.
The SMARTVALVE must contain aprogram whereby the operator can easilyreset typical electrical linear values bysimply pressing two (2) keypad buttons atthe same time.
The SMARTVALVE shall include aprogram by which the factory and/or theend user can easily decrease or increasethe speed of response of the stepper motorfrom one motor revolution every ten (10)seconds to one motor revolution every one(1) second.
Al l REGAL SMARTVALVES shal linclude a manual feed rate adjustmentknob with indicator pin and plate for useduring times when electrical power to theSMARTVALVE is lost. This featureshall give the operator four (4) ways tooperate the SMARTVALVE; ful lyautomatic, electric/manual and two (2)forms of manual ( manual via the adjust-ment knob on the SMARTVALVE, andmanual via the rate adjustment valvefurnished as part of the gas feed system).
Should an electrical surge, etc. upset orscramble the programmed engineeringor configuration parameter settings, theoperator must be able to re- loadTYPICAL values into the microprocessorby pressing and holding one keypadbutton while reapplying AC electricalpower to the SMARTVALVE.
The digital display of the REGAL SMART-VALVE shall indicate the followingconditions without the need of meters ortest equipment: an analog input signal isnot being received; signal wires arereversed; analog signal is too high.

The REGAL SMARTVALVE shall alsoinclude an "averaging" parameter in the"configuration mode" that can be used tosmooth out fluctuations caused by theflowmeter and/or the flowmeter transmitter.
Operator interface in all program modesshall be via a four button keypad. The lefttwo buttons shall enable the operator toscroll up or down through the activeprogram parameters. The remaining twokeypad buttons shall allow the operator toview the value of, and/or change thevalue of, the active parameter. Scrollingto the next parameter shall automaticallyenter into the microcontroller, the valueselected in the previous parameter. There shall be no need for a separateenter key.
The SMARTVALVE shall include a serialcommunications output. A 20 milliampdigital current loop shall be provided asstandard and shall be accessed (turnedon or off) through the Engineering mode. Two (2) choices of communications shallbe available. Selection of a continuousoutput will provide a digital output of valveplug position in PPD of instantaneous gasfeed rate. Selection of a full duplex outputwill allow serial data to flow both wayssimultaneously and will provide the userwith full control of the SMARTVALVEfrom a remote site.
If the serial communications interface tofield mounted devices requires analograther than digital inputs, the optionalREGAL Serial to Analog Converter canbe used to convert the continuous digitaloutput to a 4-20 milliamp analog outputrepresenting instantaneous gas feed ratein PPD.
The REGAL SMARTVALVE shall includethe following easy to read digital displaysand annunciator LEDs to indicate thefollowing conditions:
A. Water flow rate being treated in actualnumbers or as a percent of flow.
B. Current dosage setting.C. Valve plug position in PPD.D. Automatic or manual operation.E. Low flow rate alarm condition.F. Parameter and parameter value.
