This patented design incorporates two separate water channels in the faucet body, one for the eyewash and the other for the faucet. COMBINATION EYEWASH & SENSOR OPERATED FAUCETThe SEF-18XX Eyesaver® faucet combines a sensor operated gooseneck faucet with an independently operated eyewash. These faucets are either AC or DC powered and feature either manual or automatic mixing valves to adjust the temperature for the faucet. The eyewash offers twin aerated sprays and flip top dust covers and is supplied with either cold or tepid water through a separate feed. Tepid water to the eyewash is provided with the optional SE-370 mixing valve.

The SE-390 steam powered thermostatic mixing valve uses existing plant steam and water supply. It provides 3 to 30 gpm of 85°F with an inlet water pressure of 45 PSIG and is easy to install on any existing shower or shower/eyewash combination. Its compact, lightweight design is easily supported by pipe connections or factory mounting kits. Plant steam and water never mix, because it uses compact heat exchanger and maintains constant 85°F output regardless of the inlet water temperature (between 40°F and 85°F). No insulated tanks or expensive recirculation systems are required for this unit. It operates on typical plant steam pressure (45 PSIG recommended). Self-purging, no need for elaborate drainage system. All components are in-line field serviceable. Durable fiberglass enclosure can be readily removed for servicing. WHYTEPIDWATER?

ANSI Z358.1 recommends that if a person comes in contact with any hazardous material, the exposed areas should be flushed for at least 15 minutes. Drench showering with very cold water poses a health hazard to employees, a liability problem to employers, and discourages adequate washdowns due to its temperature. When contaminated clothing is removed for thorough cleaning, the use of cold water contributes to possible shock and hypothermia.

From ANSI’s standpoint, the use of tepid water encourages proper use of drench showers and eyewashes in emergency situations and helps prevent bodily heat loss.

"TANKLESS" TEPID WATER SOLUTIONS MADE EASYANSI Z358.1 requires tepid water to rinse hazardous material from the eyes, face and body for a minimum of 15 minutes. With cold ground water temperatures, ANSI recommends a tepid water heating solution to maintain a continuous flow of water ranging between 60-100ºF (16-38ºC). A cost effective, space saving and environmentally friendly way to meet ANSI standards is with an On-Demand Instantaneous Point of use "Tankless" water heating solution. This tankless solution eliminates the need to store hundreds of gallons of tepid water in anticipation of an unexpected chemical catastrophe. In addition, expensive recirculation systems and pumps are no longer necessary.

HOW DOES IT WORK?When the commercial high capacity tankless water heater senses demand from the drench shower or combo drench/face/eye wash unit, the tankless heater instantly turns on. The unit features a rapid temperature increase to supply the shower unit with tepid water. When the tankless heater does not sense demand, no standby electricity is used, thus eliminating expensive standby energy costs. The tankless solution is engi-neered to monitor water temperatures with split second reaction times to automatically adjust the outlet temperature to GPM change, the tank-less solution will react instantly to prevent harmful temperature overshoot. Tankless technology provides a true supply of endless tepid water.

QUICK TIPS FOR EMERGENCY SHOWERS & EYEWASHES

• ANSI Z358.1 requires that companies provide Emergency Showers and/or Eyewashes within 10 seconds’ travel time of a hazard. Look for signs of hazardous materials and make sure eyewashes and showers are within the prescribed distance.

• ANSI Z358.1 requires that shower valves be of simple operation, turn off to on in one second or less, and provide hands free operation once activated. Self-closing shower valves do not meet this standard and should be replaced.

• OSHA Directive Number STD 1-8.2. “This directive provides guidelines regarding eyewash and body flushing facilities required for immediate emergency use in electric storage battery charging and maintenance areas.” Make sure emergency equipment is properly located near these hazards.

• Personal Eyewash equipment, such as squeeze bottles, do not meet the requirements of plumbed or self-contained eyewash equipment. Make sure units meeting ANSI Z358.1 are within 10 seconds travel time from hazard.

• The storage, transfer and use of flammable liquids require showers and/or eyewashes as secondary protection. Look for containers used to handle or store these materials and make sure ANSI Z358.1 compliant Emergency Equipment is within 10 seconds’ travel distance.

• Look for areas where workers are using Personal Protective Equipment such as goggles and liquid proof gloves. These are found in areas where hazardous materials are being used and eyewashes and/or showers will be required as secondary protection.

• Hand held drench hoses do not meet the criteria of a plumbed or self-contained eyewash. If these are the only means of protection, they should be replaced or supplemented with equipment meeting the requirements of ANSI Z358.1.

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.151, SUBPART K, SECTION C"Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick, drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use."
